looking for HP85101C display keys plastic frame
Hi,
I have obtained an HP85101C display unit, which is actually working, but missing a plastic frame enclosing the keys to the right of the display, see photo below. Does anybody know a source for this or a replacement? I find, without the frame the keys only react if pressed on the right edge. Thanks, Tom DG8SAQ |
Hi Tom, If you don't get an original one, and have access to a 3d printer, you can make one. Here is a link to one I designed for my HP 8757. Your HP85101C looks the same,so I think it should fit. You can find other versions on thingivers as well. Regards, Askild On Wed, Feb 15, 2023 at 8:59 AM tom_iphi via <iphi=[email protected]> wrote: Hi, |

I believe this is indeed the same as the one in the 8757 because the part number, according to the manual, is 08757-40012 (I looked this up because I bid on that 85101C display too!). Tom, if you don't have a 3D printer and would need to order the printed part anyway, you might look at resin printing (as opposed to FDM) to get a smooth surface finish and which will look more like an injection-molded part. Places like PCBWay will do this. If you can't find a matching resin color, you can of course paint it to the desired color. Matt |
18 months or so ago when I went searching for that “menu button cover”, through a number of phone calls I discovered there were 150+ in stock at Keysight but they were reserved for use in supporting systems that were still under service agreements. I can’t imagine there are many, if any, systems still under service agreement. The parts page says NFS (not for sale) contact Keysight for repair service but contacting them results in “repair service is no longer available as the units are no longer supported!” No amount of pleading would get a single one released for sale.

Somewhere in my files I have the original HP drawing of the part in pdf format with all the dimensions. I haven’t yet decided on a 3D printer nor do I have the software to create the required files for 3D printing but it’s on my rainy day list. The plan was to incorporate spring steel bits to support the plastic tabs that break off so easily. Steve On Feb 15, 2023, at 1:49 PM, Matt Huszagh <huszaghmatt@...> wrote: |
Hi folks,
many thanks for the very useful information! Askild, many thanks for sharing the 3d model! Matt, good point using resin printing. As the part doesn't have any flat surfaces, I think it will be difficult to print on a hobby 3d-printer. Resin printing appears the perfect solution and I have just found out that it is VERY affordable, e.g. also at JLCPCB. Thanks again and best regards, Tom DG8SAQ |
Hi Tom, I think most hobby type 3d printers should be able to print this. Just use support. I got the best result printing it standing on the long edge, as the model view is shown at thingiverse. The quality of the print will of course depend on the printer, and how well it has been set up. My print was done with a Creality CR-10 Max. Getting it resin printed from a professional should give the best result. Regards, Askild On Thu, Feb 16, 2023 at 10:42 AM tom_iphi via <iphi=[email protected]> wrote: Hi folks, |
I recently got some 3D printed parts from JLCPCB, and I was quite impressed with the quality (especially for the price), but the parts yellowed considerably sitting on the window sill for a few weeks. I'd definitely recommend painting those parts from JLC with the default resin if you care about the color and it's going to have any sunlight exposure at all. Here's a fresh one from the package vs the one that's been sitting on the window sill for roughly 12 weeks On Thu, Feb 16, 2023 at 1:42 AM tom_iphi via <iphi=[email protected]> wrote: Hi folks, |
I have a resin station here.

Hi Tom, Yes they really look great. Much better than my FDM printed one. I might just have to get some printed at JLC as well. Maybe I can combine it with PCBs next time I order. Hope it fits well. Hi Askild,
I have asked, they don't combine shipment of PCB and 3d print orders, they said the taxes are different. I got four made and that was 12 Euros including shipment. I can send you one of them if you like. You are in Skandinavia, I think, EU country? The only problem left is to find a replacement for a missing pushbutton spring... Best regards, Tom DG8SAQ |
Hi Tom, You are correct, I'm in Norway. But we are not fully EU member, only 'EU-light'. Where are you located? Thanks, that would be very kind of you. We could take that off list I guess. I guess the push button spring, is the flat thin springs that can jump out of the switches? You can make new ones from a feeler gauge, just find the right thickness and cut with scissors. You can search the group archive, I think it has been discussed many times. Regards, Askild On Sun, Feb 26, 2023 at 1:56?PM tom_iphi via <iphi=[email protected]> wrote: Hi Askild, |
Hi all, Unfortunately, my model for my HP8757 did not fit well on Tom's HP85101C. Tom and me have had some off list communications, and he has done good measurements on his HP85101C, and I have made a new 3d model to fit this. He has now got this produced at JLC, and the fit is good. I have now uploaded the 3d file to Thiniverse: ??
