HP 3709B Constellation Analyzer

I have acquired one of these in good condition and apparently working. I have not been able to find a Manual for it online.? Before I try powering it up, has anyone got a .pdf Manual that they can send me please?

It was used to display constellation patterns of digital radios with distortion measurements and is described in HP Journal of July 1987.? It needed a high impedance interface kit 15709A which?I don't have.? It looks too good to scrap so I wondered if it had any other general purpose use.

It's been 25 years, so there's a lot of details that have faded, but I recall it had several fixed display formats showing constellations for 16QAM, 64QAM, and 256QAM radios, possibly a couple of other formats.

It was a good tool for fine tuning linearity issues out of a digital transmitter or receiver, but not something that was needed every day. I recall that the fixed clock rates it would accept would limit it to just a hand full of line rates that were common at the time. It's not an oscilloscope, and had no provision for any function other than connecting to a receiver demod and looking at the constellation.

I have no manual, and I can't imagine any 'general purpose' use it could be put to without heavy modification. Just commenting because it brings back memories.

Thanks Mal, agree that its something one wouldn't need to be using everyday i.e. specialized as you say.

However?I'd like to make it part of my digital ATV station?transmitting DVB-S QPSK uplink to the Melbourne ATV repeater VK3RTV, it's the extracting of the I/Q signals from the demodulator I need more information on.

Fortunately I have been able to find the complete manual on the HP 3709B and from a local crowed which was good, its now just a matter of working out how to get and present an I and Q signal...hmmm

Cheers

Clint,

?

Would?it be some possible to obtain a copy of your HP 3709B manual?

I am State Side, in Ohio. I just aquired a nice clean Analyzer and as usual no manuals available, all sold.

?

Thank you for your time and consideration,

My QRZ lookup has my secondary address in Pennsylvania, usually there in summer.
