We used to have a member that was the original designer at HP of the analog front ends for both the 3468/3478 DMMs and I am sure he would have been very helpful with the 3457A as well as I am sure it was also very close in design. Unfortunately he passed away last year, his name was George Hnatiuk, and he was always very helpful person both in knowledge and often even almost giving away original HP parts from his personal stash for almost nothing, and/or sending additional freebes along the purchases. A unique person that will be greatly missed.
Yes. I very much miss George's extremely informative posts and his general helping style. He was a great guy, and his work will live on.

J3xx fet's should be (used to be ?) pretty cheap, I suggest getting quite a few more than required in case you need to do some matching or parameter binning for e.g. Idss , Vgs etc...

PS Craig, if you could disable your email signature for this list that would be nice; it comes with a bunch of attached images which is annoying and takes longer to load...

Nice! I recently got one of those, quite by accident, along with the rest of the components for that interferometer system. It's really neat stuff.

Now that's a plan! I just won a non-functioning HP 5518A Laser head for 200 bucks because I'd always wanted to play with one and was really looking forward to trying to fix it and find out how they worked....changed the (intact looking) fuse but which measured around 250k Ohms...... and the darn thing lit up, locked and worked pretty much to spec.....Oh rats!

I know!? I thought about asking a neighbor to come over and break it, and not tell me how.
