Back in the late 70's when working at Tek in the UK, we caused mayhem it seems when we ordered a replacement for the component "W101" from the 434 vertical deflection amp schematic, after we found a part number listed in a manual for it!

Regards.

I've been enjoying the back-and-forth about the subtle humor engineers have sneaked into documentation, but I'm missing something in the above. Can anybody fill me in on the joke?

I'll contribute one of my own: back in the mid-1980's I wrote a book on the 6502, 65C02, and 65C816. In the section where I introduced different number bases, I pointed out that you can count up to 1023 on your fingers using base 2 - and that it's very rude when you get to 4, 128, and especially 132! I never heard from anyone who picked up on that.

I believe he meant 454 not 434. W101 is the Wizard, without whom you will not get full performance from the vertical amp. Not replaceable :-)
