HP8505A focus (or ghosting)

vk2bea All Messages By This Member #111977 I get a focus or ghosting issue with the display on my HP8505A network analyser.? I can 'go through' focus but it doesn't get really sharp at all. The picture below is a little deceptive in that it seems more like a slight ghost image rather than typical bad focus.? It's been like this since I bought the device (more than 20 years) but it would be nice to fix it. I've seen other images from the 8505A that are much sharper. Does anyone have an idea what might be needing adjustment? Michael

Patricio A. Greco All Messages By This Member #112418 Did you tried to reactivate the tube. Usually the cathode accumulates contamination along the time and a reactivation cleans it and you get good focus and bright again! Extreme care must to be taken to perform reactivation but the results are excellent. There are several reactivation tutorials on YouTube , there are also equipment like Sencore tube rejuvenator....?
