Differences between 8341A/B models

I just bought a 8341A that need repair, and I was thinking it's a B model :S For the B model I found all or almost all manuals but for the A model nothing... which are the differences between A/B models?? I heard here that the fundamental diff is the processor and presume that the rest of the unit are pretty similar. If you guys know something more or have access to the A variant manuals, let me know :) Anyway, I will post my reparation path here when the unit arrives Regards, R.
RubenRubio All Messages By This Member #119837 Update: I found the first volume (operation manual) for the 8341A itself, and on KO4BB website, beautifly scanned, the complete 4 volumes for the 8340A 26.5 gig model... now I am less desperate :D I will keep digging for the last 3 volumes for the 8341A?
Bruce All Messages By This Member #119838 Differences depend a lot on the serial (first 5 digits). There are two variants one that has 5 cards in the controller section and uses the "cylinder head" CPU and the other uses the 68000 same as the B version. I've not owned an 8341 but see some differences mentioned in the manuals. I believe the band marker board (controller section) is different, firmware is different, but the synthesizer sections should be similar. The RF section cards - level control, sytm driver will be different also. Others that actually own an 8341A can probably be more help. Richard Parrish All Messages By This Member #119839 开云体育 The processor boards changed between the 8340/1 A and B versions.? The original processor had a separate memory board as well as some other differences in the digital section as well a different motherboard.? There was a CPU upgrade kit that contained a new processor board, a new scan generator board, a daughter board for the motherboard as well as a HPIB connector cable.? The boards however are the same (8340A/41A & 8340B/1B). ? The only real difference between the 40's and 41's is the SYTM, the output directional coupler and the RF connector.? The B versions added the ability to do external FM. ? You could convert an 8341B to an 8340B but it wasn't an easy straight forward conversion.? It involved changing a number of cal constants, changing the SYTM, the directional couplers, the detector, and the output connector to 3.5mm and then going thru a complete recalibration of the system.? You also had to change some of the jumpers on the Interface board and that depended on which boards were installed in your system.? It's been a long time but that's the gist of it. Bruce All Messages By This Member #120069 Yes - that is probably the 08640-60193 processor and it is the "modern" version not the cylinder head CPU. Should be good Cheers!
