My local Vintage Radio ClubWait, you took those in as a donation and you're sending them to recycling? WTF? The person who donated them to you most likely did so in order to keep them from being destroyed. Don't you feel the least bit of motivation (other than trying to sell them here) to uphold that desire? Wow. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA |
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Dave ¨C ? I believe they are doing the right thing. Obviously as a club, they have no use for the manuals, and the donor probably knew that. I agree the dump is extreme, however giving them away for postage plus a donation if one desires is very fair. If I was younger I would surely be interested in a few. 73 ¨C Mike ? Mike B. Wait, you took those in as a donation and you're sending them to recycling?? WTF?? The person who donated them to you most likely did so in order to keep them from being destroyed.? There where 20+ boxes that where going to the dump we intercepted them.?
The rare books we will be auctioned off, as well a the SAMS type items,? The 100+ hardcover books will go to next meeting and our members to pick though and take what they want. We sent about 5 boxes of photocopies and notes,? old catalogs and clippings to recycling.?? And I though I was being nice and offering them here basically for postage |
I'm sorry Mike, I just don't agree. I suspect the donor just didn't have sufficient Google-fu to find an appropriate organization to which to give the manuals, but either way, the donor DID give them the manuals. If the donor was ok with the idea of them going to the dump, the donor would've sent them to the dump.

This is crappy, plain and simple. Feel free to disagree if you like, but I stand by that assertion. -Dave On 10/12/21 7:14 PM, Mike Feher wrote:

Go back and re-read your original post and see what impression you might've gotten from it. And I though I was being nice and offering them here basically for postageWell, postage plus a donation, but yes. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA |

Hello-- I wasn't employed there at the time (early 1980s), but when Corporate decided to close the Sperry Research Center, they ordered the center's library? to be taken to the Sudbury, MA dump. Newly unemployed staff members asked for the books relevant to their specialties and were told, "You can go to the dump and pick the books off the piles". The same thing happened to General? Radio's library when their Concord, MA facility was closed. Fortunately, the truck driver assigned to dumping the books diverted them to his barn sale (*). 73-- Brad? In one case, I 'intercepted' a large rolley bin full to the brim with a doctor's life collection of fine medical texts. Anyway... since no one seems to be rushing to select ones they want, would it simplify things if I take the entire set? (Minus duplicates, 606A, 181T, 436A, please.) My manuals collection is all much later stuff. This sounds like a good opportunity to get a range of HP earlier manuals. Postage would be to Torrance, CA 90503. I guess they would not fit in one box? Thanks for offering them. You can contact me off list to discuss, if you like. "... old catalogs and clippings to recycling" Uh, I'm afraid to ask... did that happen to include any old HP and maybe Tek catalogs, say in the 1960s range? Please say no. Guy |
Hello--
One more Crime Against Knowledge: National Radio's very last (*) location was a site near the Chelsea, MA Navy Yard near Boston.? Their accommodations were sited in what was once an ordnance-storage structure. Lured to the site by a small classified ad mentioning test equipment. When I arrived, I discovered a large Dumpster being filled with the contents of several filing cabinets-- I glimpsed old catalogs, specifications and invoices. I was discouraged from digging into the Dumpster by a couple of? burly workers who were neither technology scholars nor nuisances like me. 73-- Brad? AA1IP (*): in the early 1990s, 1993 perhaps? |
