9122 and 9122C - HPIB Connected DiskDrives - Scrap or save?

Hello.

I have two old HP Diskdrives 9122 and 9122C
that I would like to scrap. The drive mechanisms
are jammed by fossilized grease.

Is there a n y "must have" instrument that needs such
a drive unit? Presently I am using a PC with KE5FX software
to talk to my VNA and SA.

?

Cheers

Hi Ulf
I would take both complete drives if you were in the UK , anywhere else and I suspect the shipping with make it impossible due to cost

best regards
Brian

Please don't scrap those, a lot of people want and need them. The drive mechanisms are easily repaired. Scrapping them is how things become "rare".

If you can't find a home for them, look over at the VintHPCom mailing list on groups.io.

I¡¯d be happy to put them to good use but I¡¯m afraid shipping to the US would be prohibitive.

Hello Ulf,

I'm also interested in one of these drives, 'cause my 8703A VNA uses such a
drive to store settings, calibration data and more.

May you ship one of these to Germany?

Best regards,

Stephan

Well. I am in Sweden. I would gladly give them away rather than scrapping them but the shipping charges
makes overseas transport to expenceive.

You can imagine how I feel when I see adverts on instruments
that would fit perfectly in my little RF-lab,
only to se "Local pick-up only" or "Continental US only".

I will try to see how much a shipping within the EU would be.

I could give them a new home and I am pretty close (?land) so shipping should not be that expensive. As you might be aware do I have an disk emulator that I created, but having? areal disk to compare with could be cool. Please drop me a mail offline

I have a cousin in Gothenburg. That is quite close to you?

The 9122C is spoken for.
It will be picked up.

The other one is left. I shall try to decide
to whom, and how...

Hi Ulf ,
please dont forget me , my statement that shipping cost would make it impossible for me to buy - I was assuming that you were in the USA when in fact you are somewhat closer . The cost might still put it out of my reach but it does seem a good deal more likely that it could be affordable for me .
I have an HP9826 system and spare parts or additional disk drives are always needed as there is no knowing how long the parts that I have will continue to function?

This not forgotten.

The 9122C was picked up today. I have the other one still in my storage area.
Shipping charges are anywhere up to €80 depending upon where
and how. It seems however that the increased e-trading because
of Covid has saturated some shipping services. I don't think it will be a good idea
to try to ship anything before january 2021.

I will get back once I have figured out a way to receive the amount needed
for shipping.

Robert, just for clarification the HP 9122 is a dual 3.5in. floppy drive (360KB per drive) with a GPIB connector. The HP9122C is the same but both floppy drives are 1.2MB.
They were used a lot with the HP ETE and technical workstations in the 1970¡¯s and 80¡¯s. They can be used to load software and sisters onto the older HP ETE.
