Optiion upgrade HP 8753C/B

Hi, I recently bought? HP 8753C with no option.? I would like to make a full upgrade with options? 002,010 and 006. (010) I have only an 85046A test set however I would like to use swept oscillator HP 8350B so hopefully, that will not caused any issue with soft or with the test set to future.
Anyway, I got the codes for HP 8753C but unfortunately, I struggling to found proper procedures on how to install these upgrades. An available method I found is only for 8753E and higher thus I would like to ask you if you can recommend where to find it or if its the same procedure as for 8753E. Thanks

Take a look at?
I think it may have what you need.

thanks, so the procedure is the same as for 8753E however just to be sure it is written :

"?Perform this procedure only if :?(1) the instrument has option 002 or 006 or 010, AND"
should I worried about the last sentence, and one more hypothetical question what could happen if the codes I have are wrong??

Some notes I had from a while back.? I upgraded to all options on a 8753B using HEX editor and programmer.? Can't remember all the details.

-- v2.01 only use of the "mechanical" relay variants of the 85047A.
-- v3.0 permit use of "solid state" relay the 85047A's.

- Display Unit HP 1349A Has separate Service Manual
-- HP 1345 display unit is very similar i.e. possible as spare and using service manual
-- Forums discuss tube aging causes brightness and focus problems
-- Possible to use equipment to restore coated cathode and fix intensity/focus problems

-Instrument Options:
-- 002 ?? ?Harmonic Measurement Capability
-- 006 ?? ?6 GHz Receiver Option
-- 010 ?? ?Time Domain Capability
-- 802 ?? ?add Dual Disc Drive and HP 10883A cable

- ENABLE OPTION 010 (TIME DOMAIN)
-- Read the EEPROM (2816/2864)on the processor PCB.
-- Dump code and locate the Serial# in the comment box
-- Option configuration is set in the first three places before the serial#
-- Enter the appropriate HEX value 3 times
--- Here is the list:
??? F1 = 010
??? F2 = 006
??? F3 = 006+010
??? F4 = 002
??? F5 = 002+010
??? F7 = 010/002/006
??? Example: F1 F1 F1 50 53 54 55 ... this would be a option 010 unit with serial# 3345

- ANOTHER OPTION ENABLE PROCEDURE:
?? ?EEPROM information for the 8753 series
?? ?F1= 010, F2=006, F3=010 + 006, F6=075, F7= 002, 006, 010
?? ?These are all in row 7F0 which holds the option information and the serial number.
?? ?The option information is put in three times in front of the serial number as
?? ?F1F1F1serial number(Hex)

- EEPROM X2816AM 2048 x 8 Bit Electrical Erasable PROM is U1 on A9 CPU PCB.

He already has the option keywords and does not need to (manually) program the eeproms.? He just wants the procedure to enter the codes.? Manually reprogramming the eeproms is too dangerous and/or difficult, which is why I provide the keywords to those that want them.? I don't want anyone to accidentally destroy their analyzer.

as Ceasar said, this is a too dangerous way at least for me as you can see I am afraid to even entering keywords. And after your receiver upgrade?up to 6GHz you are using 85046a or 85047a test sets?
Btw, you mention the restoration of CRT from HP 8753B. I have done this a few months ago for HP 1349A. The brightness is now ok just the focus is still not good. Is there a way how to improve it?

Matej, if you really want to do this as safely as possible you can back up the EEPROM using a 9122C external floppy disk drive (GPIB). I am pretty sure the 8753B/C supports that.

unfortunately 9122C I don't have but? I think as long as?? webpage is working? I should be ok just it will be a pain to make all correction tests
Maybe someone here already makes some little soft for EEPROM back up using USB GPIB controller which will help a lot?
Anyway, after today's browsing I think??I found my answer.

I believe that if you don't change the hardware jumper then the codes you enter are not programmed into the EEPROM.

The new option will revert when you cycle the power on the 8753C. So you can use that to experiment.

Cheers,
Roger

so finally all option successfully installed, thank you all for your helping comments

PS: for those who don't want to waste time searching in the service manual I attached the procedure here?

Do you have the adjustments tab which shows?which?jumper is the A9 CC jumper ? the manual I have just keeps saying move the A9 CC jumper, but doesn't actually say anywhere which jumper that is on the A9 board

I think the A9 CC Jumper is in position E33-E34.

See the picture attached but I am not 100% sure because there were
different A9 CPU boards for those series and they have slightly
different layout.

ok thanks, unfortunately totally different layout to my A9 board. the manual isn't very helpful at all.?

Just in case this helps someone else I've found it now. My A9 board looks like the one here

And as described in the link, the procedure IS detailed in the service manual for the 8752C on page 123 of the pdf. Why HP couldn't put this information into the 8753C manual is baffling.?
