HP 34401A repair and calibration

³Ò²¹²Ô²µ¡.

the subject line says it all.

My go to bench multimeter hasn¡¯t been calibrated since I purchased it new 15 years ago.

During that time, it has worked perfectly. Still does¡

however the display has gotten so dim, it¡¯s hard to see. The display needs replaced

so, anyone know of a place that will replace the display and calibrate this meter?

Thanks..

mike

Mike,

Keysight still sells the display. Bought one recently for about €150 in Europe. I did the repair myself. I am sure Keysight can calibrate your instrument. At 10V mine is within 40 microvolts.?
Good luck,?

Mike,

As in all things it depends on how much you want to spend. Keysight still supports the 34401A - unit exchange is $768 and I believe that includes calibration. Calibration is also still available at about $230ish.
I ordered the display PCA from Keysight and replaced it easily enough. There are also aftermarket suppliers offering them on eBay but I went with Keysight as I needed some other parts as well.
Mine still compares close enough with my 3458A so I passed on calibration for now.

This is going to sound silly, but this multimeter was a wedding gift from my wife, so it isn¡¯t really only a piece of test gear
I¡¯d like to keep it, but with a new display and calibration

Congrats on 15 years of marriage - she sounds like a woman after my heart :).
I saw a thread on the EEVBlog where people have found a source for the display at $30 or so:? .

What is the recommended calibration schedule for wives?

I tried adjusting my first one but that was a no go. Got the right one the next time.

Pardon me for jumping in, but I don't think that sounds silly at all.
Compatible spouses are a wonderful thing, and I have way too many

You young whippersnappers, we are coming up on 40. The proper calibration interval is once per year on the acquisition date. Of course operational verifications can be done anytime.?

As discussed before, calibration does not necessarily mean adjustment.?
