8560E Firmware/CPU Question

 

I am a newbie to spectrum analyzers and the 8560E. I acquired one of these instruments a few months ago as a learning aid re SAs. I have previously reported here a problem with non-uniform brightness of some alphanumeric characters, so wont cover that ground again. I have spent considerable time on this forum reviewing posts concerning firmware and processor upgrades, including downloading various Agilent/HP documents via links provided here. I am somewhat convinced by this effort that my instrument has the latest available firmware revision (and therefore the 16 MHz processor). Can someone here confirm this?

ROM VERSION:? 990108

From this info I am also assuming this instrument was manufactured in 1999 or later.

Well ¡­ perhaps not manufactured in 1999 or later, but possibly an upgrade of firmware and/or processor. Does the SN tell us anything about manufacture date? I suspect there is some info on manufacture date inside but have not yet had the case off.

Per the Serial No. it WAS manufactured not earlier than 1999 week 43. That¡¯s all the Serial No. tells you, but it is for sure. To put and end to the window you have to know the next Serial Prefix and it will be later than that.
