hp8970a recallibration attenuator help

hello all I have a hp8970A meter that has been turned off for a long time. I turned it back on and I know that the internal attenuator needs to be recalibrated with the special command function SP 33.0. I re-entered the ENR table of the head but I don't remember if the temperature also needs to be entered or not just for the recalibration of the attenuator does anyone remember? thank iw5bsf Roberto

Hello Roberto,
Special Function 33 is for calibrating the IF attenuators. Just connect a 15 dB ENR noise source and execute SF 33. Temperature entering not necessary.

I recall someone telling me that special function will not work with a ~6db ENR source

That is correct. You need either ~15dB ENR or an amplifier with at least 10dB gain between the 6 dB ENR noise source and the 8970 input. I use an 8447D when I don’t have a 15 dB ENR noise source handy.

Thanks for the help but do I also have to enter the data from the ENR noise table? The only thing I had to do was the table of the various points of the graph printed on the case then I have another table provided to me but I don't know which of the two is more coherent
table the table I got by looking at the graph
sheet 2 calibration sheet that you provided me
suggestions accepted
