Intro

Although my working career was spent in broadcasting, I have maintained a lifelong interest in microwave technology.  During the late 1950’s and early 1960’s I managed to construct apparatus on a hobby basis to multiply the output of surplus K and Ka-band klystron tubes to 100 GHz, along with the necessary hardware to tune and detect these signals.  But workplace and family demands stopped further microwave experimentation until retirement provided an opportunity to return to this fascination.

After serving in several broadcast technical and managerial positions, later in my career I joined the Voice of America where I managed their Greenville, North Carolina transmitting and training center before retiring.  Although I received an engineering degree in what now seems like another lifetime, most of what I have learned about microwaves has been gleaned from hands-on experimentation and fabrication.

I’m licensed as KG6OJI with my main interest being bench-top experimentation.  My home is in the U.S., just north of San Francisco, California and the Golden Gate bridge.

I have always gone by my middle name of Bruce; however, my full name is Edwin Bruce Hunter.  This is why you may see ebrucehunter on my postings.

Something over 65 years ago I helped install an RCA UHF transmitter. RCA furnished a liquid flux, I think they called Kempane or something like that. It came in a bottle with a brush and was used for
