Re: Agilent 8563E ERR 456 AMPL

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,

?

I am currently working on my 8562A, which had this message at some point in the repair.

My main problem originally, was that I had to change the potentiometers of the amp LOG module A4 because of intermittence of these components and also those concerning the BLANKING (the screen was unreadable). I had measured precisely the values of all the adjustments before replacing them with pre-adjusted potentiometers...but it was not enough to avoid the problems.

I had mainly the error ERRxxx AMP LOG. When I decided after much testing and reading of the service manual, to align this LOG amp, I saw the message ERR 456 AMPL.

?

This message or others like it, not very precise, concern a global alignment of the module A5 to A3, but passing through A4. Modules A5 and A4 are the main modules subject to a large number of error messages.

?

The A5 module alone includes 24 DACs and 13 IOs for digital IF band adjustment controls...it's discouraging.

?

But if your spectrum seems to be working fine at first glance with this message, then here is an explanation based on the tests I completed: all of these alignments are in series, if one of them or a sum of several of them cause you to go out of a certain range, then error messages will appear, not necessarily caused by a faulty component. In my case for this particular message (ERRxxx AMP LOG), it was caused by a DAC that could not compensate the DC offset after the RF detector because of a bad alignment.

?

To get rid of all the messages related to A5 (after having fixed those of A4 for my specific problem), I simply did the alignment procedure #3 "IF Bandpass Adjustment" and alignment procedure #4 "IF Amplitude Adjustment".

?

So, in my case, it was not a hardware failure, but simply an alignment drift caused by a series of out of specification adjustments (aging, drift over time). Now everything is ok, for the moment I continue to check that everything is stable before closing the instrument.

?

Hi,

My Agilent 8563E developed ¡°ERR 456 AMPL¡± after I dig out from storage today. Reading through the Service Guide yield no hints. All the yellow LED in A2 light up correctly which I presume all power ok.

?

Believe this error is related to A5 IF board but don¡¯t know how to start the troubleshooting.

Re: Agilent 8563E ERR 456 AMPL

After reseating the ribbon cable on A5, those error gone and I now have error 201 580 596 567
?
The service guide neither help on those errors?

Re: HP 8662A A7A2 fault finding testing

I'm answering my own question here for other who may encounter the same issue. If you are trying to test the A7A2 board without the A7A3 or A7A1 board in circuit you will need to run a few patch leads. See the following video on how to do this.

See?
Hope this helps.

Re: Need urgent help with bulk TE manuals shipping problem

A shame you can't use banana boxes. They're perfect for manuals.

Oh, and I literally need close to 450 boxes (say 500.)
Must be all the same, and must be heavy duty cardboard due to stack depth and weight of books.
Second hand boxes from dumpsters etc not acceptable - not least because very likely would fail
Australian Quarantine inspection. Yes, apparently they _are_ likely to unpack everything.

As I quite clearly implied, I watched the video 4 years ago when VK2SEB, first posted it.
I was assuming there was progress made on the project, and that it was permissible to ask about it publicly... as I am very interested in doing it.

Some reason?? There sure is.? Go back and read what I wrote, then read what you wrote.? I said nothing about having "finished the work" or having source code or PCB files.? I simply posted the link to the video, thinking some might find it useful to see what others had done.? Any notion that I had "finished the work" is solely a product of your imagination.? Some definitions of "delusional":

suffering from or characterized by delusions;
of or pertaining to delusions;
having unrealistic beliefs;
believing things that are not true

"Delusion" is defined as:

a belief that is not true : a false idea;
?a false belief or opinion;
a mistaken or unfounded opinion or idea

I used the word "delusional" somewhat in jest, but you made a giant leap in getting from my posting of the video to assuming that I had completed VK2SEB's project.? I wish I had (or could).

Thanks. I didn't know of packagingsupplies.com .

Uline... which I'd had most hope for, fall down on box size. The reasons (and pics) given in

Summary: The ideal box internal dimensions (same order as the ULine online table):
Length Width Height
15" to 22" 12" ! 18" to 20"
Pref 18" Pref 19.5". NO GREATER than 20".

Which is around the size of a typical 'house moving box'.

The 12" width is an absolute requirement. Most manuals height (laid flat) fits that well.
Smaller or larger box 'width' would be very wasteful and a pain to pack.

That overall ratio is a strong preference due to really needing to achieve good space efficiency,
both of manuals in each box, and the box stacking in the shipping container.
Or else some of the manuals won't fit in the shipping container.

Oh, and I literally need close to 450 boxes (say 500.)

Second hand boxes from dumpsters etc not acceptable - not least because very likely would fail

I really don't understand why ULine have nothing even close to that dimensions ratio & size.
Perhaps I may get desperate and use something very non-optimal from them.

Re: Need urgent help with bulk TE manuals shipping problem

I'll second this recommendation, I've found the paper supply houses to be a lot less expensive

Re: Need urgent help with bulk TE manuals shipping problem

If you are near a large metro area there is always a paper supply house that handles virtually everything from packing materials to boxes.

?

If no success and you miss the ship by date there is always Uline (as was said earlier) who can provide everything from small low bursting strength boxes up to large triwall containers on pallets if needed.? Nearly everybody uses their products.? I found that the local UPS ?Store even uses their boxes.

If A7 is the "Analog Interface" card then sweep is generated inside A7.?8590(A?) series CLIP is available in files section and also at usual download sites. Your card may be similar or same as 08595-60022, a DAC feeds a Miller integrator to generate the ramp.

Re: HP 141T CRT Question

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I looked at the video.? It's an off-the-shelf ST MICRO development board (which means all the hard stuff is done) with a simple set of buffers.

The software (not that I've seen it) looks like a touchGFX interface (software framework available free as is the compiler) because of the rounded buttons.? It should be a relatively straightforward program to do, since you don't have to write the software infrastructure.? The most complicated part would be the normalization and the A/D capture routines with display.? The system would be running multiple tasks with FreeRTOS.?

It should be noted, though, that this is a CRT replacement, and not a replacement control panel for the entire equipment, so interfacing from the display back to the equipment is not covered.

If the display is physically small enough, you could mount it in the panel opening for the original CRT with a 3D printed bezel to make it look pretty, I'd think.

I agree with Steve - the big box stores are a good bet - they usually have relatively small heavy duty boxes.

Go for it.

Actually I do have a moving company lined up as one option for the packing.
But amazingly, they claimed to only have two box types available, and both were ridiculous.
So I'm really hoping to find a source of sensible boxes, and arrange to get them onsite myself.

Searching from Australia is iffy, google wants to show me local results. Don't have a VPN.
