Thanks for the offer but Scott sent one here:

Re: How do I attach slides to heavy equipment like 8720 VNA?

For something really heavy, the platforms are fastened both back and front.? You'll need rails in the back.

Re: Troubleshooting a 8591e with opt 130

I continued my testing and debugging with some success.
The opt 130 is showing signal now, there are supposed to be 2 jumpers on that board and only 1 was present, the other was probably used for A14W1 by the previous owner, when he removed the option. With that jumper in place i'm no longer just looking at the nosiefloor.
With the option installed the cal fails on NBW 200Hz Notch failed.?
Doubt that i'lll be able to fix that without schematics or adjustment options on the opt 130.
?
Interestingly the unit does show a -22dB cal signal with the factory default cal at 350MHz in full span and 300MHz at 100MHz span.?
During ampt cal the signal is way above the screen during 3db BW steps, i'm guessing something is going wrong there.
After running freq and amp cal the 300MHz is back at -5dB instead of -20dB, even though the cal failed and correction off doesn't change it either.?
?
Starting to wonder how feasible this repair will be.

Thanks Robert for talking out of doing something stoopid.
I got some shelves on order.

Re: How do I attach slides to heavy equipment like 8720 VNA?

Hi,
No you cannot mount the equipment from the rack ears. They are only intended to stop the unit moving forward. You need either a full shelf, side angles or extening slides.
For "System II" cases like your 8720 HP supplied custom extending slides. These fit in the carrying handle recesses. You remove the handle. The handle screws hold the slides in place but the lead is taken by shape of the slide mounting face. This is a close fit into the handle recess in the side castings of the case. Taller cases may use two slides per side.
Unless you can find the proper HP slides it best to stick to shelves or suppot angles.
Page 750 of the 1989 catalog (available on line) shows the arrangement and part numbers.
An example is 1494-0060 Current price is unrealistic >?2500

Re: HP 410C Meter pegs upscale on all R ranges?

I don't have any of mine open right now but I might be able to do that later today.

If you are referring to A1R10, it appears that it is wired between the rear wafer of the function switch and the wafer next to the rear wafer.

Hope that helps,

Subject: [HP-Agilent-Keysight-equipment] HP 410C Meter pegs upscale on all R ranges?
It was working fine on resistance measurement, but then, after about 15 minutes, the meter pegs upscale, and the manual shows the possible cause as ?A1R10 250 ohms. I think it's an intermittent cold solder joint or a failing 250 ohm resistor. At 84, my eyes aren't that good, so I need some help. If someone has an open unit, a picture or a description of its location would be nice.
Thanks
Hank

Re: 8665B noisy signal & Cal Errors

Hi All, sorry for the long delay getting back to this thread. It's taken a few iterations of test, order parts, and test again. Plus, life is busy.
?
I started by replacing all of the big electrolytics (some were impossible to find and I had to sub higher values). Then the wet tantalums. I still had some ripple on the DC rails, and the 25V line was high. I got lucky and found an 8665B power supply on eBay and took a shot on it. Success! We are back to a clean carrier wave on all bands.?
?
The only issue remaining is error 1,078,xxx for COAX DSCR. The service manual of course says "replace module", as is common for this series of generator. I've read others have done well replacing the COAX lines, and checking for blown caps on that board. At $50 per line I don't want to replace any more than necessary so I'm waiting for some SMA-SMC adapters to arrive, then I can test the cables on my 8753C. In the meantime I'll pull the module out and inspect it for anything obviously out of spec.?
?
Thanks again for all of the advice!?

Re: HP 16500C Display Question

Based on the information from the GitHub , looks like its actually a "EGA" Signal ( or Medium Res ) ~ Close to Amiga Res..
?
You could be able to just piggy back off the signal and use an external monitor that supports ~25Khz and is larger , or maybe a GBS-8200 to adapt to a larger monitor for easier view.

Re: HP8510 not initializing OS, help requested

Hi Maarten,

I'm in the Netherlands (south) and have a spare 8510B sitting around and I also have some of the original tapes.
I also have all the boards of the display unit as spares.

Maybe I can help?

Re: HP8510 not initializing OS, help requested

Hi Maarten,
?
meanwhile I am a happy owner of a 8510C. So, if you can manage to pick it up in Southern Germany, I'm ready to part with my older 8510B:
It still has a weak CRT, but you can swap in the one from your 8510A.
Contact me offline if interested.

HP8564E-Can the attenuators be operated remotely using GPIB?

Hello,
The attenuators on my HP8564E appear to be stuck on one range only. Is there a way to activate ALL the attenuators one at a time by using the GPIB interface?
I would like to test it this way so that I can if the keypad is faulty. Is there a script or combination of commands I can use with PYVISA?
I will be making one of these adaptors.
I hope someone can help? Thanks.

So I tore down the machine and took a look at the PCB. Looks like one of the connectors next to a D/A might be a vga port.?

Ultimately I changed to a 16700A (or B) which does allow resizing. It also helps with another 16500C problem - if you fit a card with relatively deep memory such as a 16555D, it takes forever to render zoomed-out images. It's still not overly fast, though.

Re: HPAK 60XY, 66XY, etc Autoranging GPIB System Power Supplies - useful in a hobby environment?

That's right, Steve, and thank you for that.

GPIB would be an important factor for me too, but unfortunately I haven't yet figured out how to run multiple VISA environments on my bench computer. I've managed (with help) to install a xyphro?GPIB-USB adapter?that?allows me to harvest readings from my Prema 6048 (which is essential?to do at my bench), but even if I have other adapters?(such as NI), I've not been able to install them alongside the R&S VISA environment that enables me to use the xyphro. In retrospect, installing the R&S VISA was the wrong choice, as that's one maker I have almost no instruments from, and very limited interest?in due to the type of units they focused on. I should have probably gone for NI due to how generic that VISA environment?is vs. even HP and so on. On a side note, it sounds like you have a developed GPIB environment there, so if you have any availability?to share your thoughts?on how I can get an NI USB adapter?to work in my environment (as described above), I'd be very appreciative?and will?learn in the process.?

I bought one from you (you should be seeing the check today or tomorrow,
so hoping you can ship early next week). I'm replacing a bench supply
which has given me good service for many years, but I recently
discovered it sometimes generates an extreme transient at shutdown when
lightly loaded. I think it has recently blown several prototypes i was
working on for clients. Hence I am interested in clean startup /
shutdown transients, but also in accurate voltage / current setting and
reporting. I'm also interested in control and monitoring via GPIB.
