looking for 8753D/E/ES Parts

Lothar baier

i recently bought a 8702D on ebay , unfortunatly the seller did a shitty packing job and the unit got banged up so i am looking for a few things to fix the damage?

1.) back feet , i need at least 2 of them
2.) Button cover?
3.) testport coupler , the coupler still works but the connector is bent up in a angle so if anyone has a bad coupler where i can remove the connector i could use it?

HP8640B RF Fails Several Seconds After Power Up

I have have had a very reliable?HP8640B that I bought as a parts unit years and rehabbed into a working state, including replacement of the tricky differential gears with brass ones. It has been a most faithful runner up until the other day when I was using it to align a receiver, when the RF output suddenly stopped, and the counter went to 00000. I powered it off and on, and the RF returned for 10-20 seconds and fell silent again. In further power cycles, the RF will occasionally come back on for a matter of a few seconds before failing again.

My first though was of course that one of the power supplies had finally lost a filter cap. So I checked them all for proper voltage and any ripple. None of them had any sign of excessive ripple and all voltages were all spot on EXCEPT the +44.6. As long as the RF is being generated, it's happily at 44.6, but as soon as the RF quits, it rises to 47-49V and the voltage trim pot has no effect. I checked all the discrete components on the 44.6 board including swapping out the U2 723BE regulator. No luck.

I placed a scope directly on the output of the oscillator, both on the counter side and the main output, and it appears there is no RF oscillation happening at this point. In looking at the schematic, I was unable to see any use of the 44.6V supply in this area, so I'm baffled. It appears to use +/-20 and 5.2 but not 44.6. I've heard of heroic repairs of the RF cavity circuitry, but I am praying it's not failing there.?

Any tips or thoughts of what to check next are most appreciated.?

Scott

Re: Newbie to KE5FX

Thanks Jim,

I've found a couple of NI posts talking about my issue and it seems I'm not alone. The advice from NI in the most recent post advises to roll back versions and to not accept any of the newer versions of drivers. Strange really, you would think accepting the defaults during installation would be the safest approach. More as I have it.

Re: Readout from HP54602A U75 Needed (CORRECTION)

The part for U75 on the HP54602A PCB is a DS1220 and should be read as a DS1220. The B model uses the DS1225. The DS1220 may be replaced by a M48Z12 available from Mouser.
Sorry for the confusion.

Let me give you one piece of advice as far as ebay goes ,? don’t take the prices at face value , ALWAYS look for listings that have best offer enabled and throw a lowball offer on it , I had good success with this approach ,? I got a 8341B? that was listed at $1999 for $499 and a 8702D VNA listed at $899 for $300

A lot of sellers look at what other listings are asking and just put it out there at a similar price but are negotiable

Hi Ruben,

?

On my side, I have just finished the restoration of my 8350B and did a complete alignment. It meets all specifications.

I also finished with the 83595A plugin, changed some parts and realigned it...it wasn't as easy as I would have liked, but everything works fine now.

?

So, maybe I can help you, I'm going to measure the currents of the different power supplies, as well as the associated voltages and ripple, it will give you an idea for the next steps.

I have 3 different plugins; I will look at the different loads.

?

I hope you find the plugin you want at a reasonable price.

Thank you for your words Yves, for now I have put the 8350B project on hold. I am looking for a plugin at a good price to continue checking current consumption. Again, best price tags are on the States, but high freight costs and customs to Spain makes the deals more difficult. So I must be patient and still searching every day.

Readout from HP54602A U75 Needed

Hello,

I have a HP54602A (not B) DSO that I need a binary or hex readout of the contents of U75 the evil DS1220 or M48Z18 battery backed lithium SRAM. Mine has gone flat.
Anyone who has a 54600 series scope should read these out and store the contents for safekeeping. I know that you can self calibrate this scope but without the base information in the SRAM calibration is of no use,.

Thank you for taking the time to read my message.

Re: HP Masked Microcontroller Question

There use to be a normalizer/offset Option 6 that could be purchased (see Ebay pic below)? Per the photo, this option was available with the HP5316A which included HPIB functionality.? The Option 6 was discontinued somewhere between the 5316A and 5316B, I believe.? My guess due to poor sales.? Studying the schematics between the 5316A and B showed that the only difference was that the interface socket used to bridge a ribbon cable between the Option 6 to 5316B was removed.? Also, the CE2 and CE3 (chip enable) signals are shared between the Option 6 and the Option 3.? These two signals were originally designated for reading the Option 6 switches per the HP5316A manual.

So... what this is really about is whether I can come up with a way to reimpliment the Option 6 capability in a more modern fashion.? So, if the main counter microprocessor hasn't changed it appears to me that the Option 6 still is available and some clever hardware mod would allow its use.? The Option 6 had it's own service manual but I have not been able to find it.? I think I will grab the Logic analyzer and reverse engineer the signals related to the Option 6 to get a better idea of what is going on.

If anyone has any comments/advise, it would be appreciated.
Thanks
Jim

Re: HP-8753E Reading HPGL Files

Unfortunately, JPEG format graphic files are far less than ideal for this type of graphic. John's plotter emulator has been my go-to every time I need to grab a screen.? It makes it easy to manipulate or drop directly into a document from a GUI environment.
Thanks, Mr. Miles!
