Ah, the too much current for the relay coils issue.? About 20 years ago I had to design a circuit to put out a pulse of current to kick-start a relay.? The hold current necessary to keep the relay closed was about 1/3 the kick-start current, so about 1/9 the power dissipation.? So I dropped the current by a third after a number of milliseconds after switching.? There may be a similar issue here.? HTH.? ?Jim Ford?

Chad,

For the money you will spend on getting together the components to add a tracking generator to your SA, you might want to consider any of the tiny VNA variations available. I have the 9593E with the TG, and have had it apart several times to troubleshoot the TG. Pretty much a plumbers nightmare, as you have seen.

A VNA will give you more information than the SA / TG can.

Now, if you are after a learning experience, digging into the guts of your 8595 will give you that.!

As for things to look out for, if your model has an input bandswitching relay, there is a modification you can make to reduce the drive current to the relay coils. In the 8593E the original circuit has the habit of cooking the coils, leaving you stuck in either low band or high. Symptom is not hearing the relay click when changing bands.

Re: Agilent E4416A series power meter

There were a couple of Agilent service notes relating to problems in the E4418B meter through a wide range of serial numbers where the units would not power up or at least give a display.? I¡¯ll see if I can find them.

Sorry HP/Agilent group. I clicked reply thinking it was private.
I am trying to keep this away from this site but wanted people to have a chance at some nice items.
I am in Deep River, Ontario, Canada. Local pickup for everything would be great.
The HP8757D and HP8340B with 4 detectors and?HP85027A Directional Bridge works well.
Contact me private or keep an eye on the test-equip-trader group in a few days. I am taking it all there.

I have a couple of interested parties. If not for this system I would be prepared to sell the waveguide in lots but I would prefer not by the piece.
I don't need the money so if the Analyzer does not sell I will keep some stuff for playing. I have too much of it though so some must go.
My real interest is in my ROV and adding Sonar. Too many hobbies.

Sorry for a bit OT.
Before I waste my time advertising on the test-equip-trader; would anyone be interested in waveguide items?
WR90 (10GHz), some lower frequency, some higher (25GHz? I will have to measure them. Power splitters, low pass filters, -20 dB pickoff, all waveguide.
Several boxes with microwave sources and other components, one has 3ft of flexible waveguide, see below. I will catalog them in a pdf.
This item looks like a launcher but the BNC says it is not and is probably a diode detector.
It is a PRD 643-A? does anyone have a catalog to identify it? I have several and another for higher frequ.
Please contact me off line unless you think it would be of interest to this group.?

Still have not found a collection - anyone else?

Thanks!

Part needed: Line filter for 141S Display Section

All,

Would anybody have a spare part for my 141S Display Section? I am looking for a line filter, FL1, part number 00851-2026. This is for the old-style three-pin power cable from serial number prefix 910-xxxxx.

What is a bit strange is the manual mentions the part number with two solder pins (like one of my 141S units) whereas this one clearly has three solder pins (to the right side), so I am unsure if the part number exactly matches the one pictured.

Thanks in advance.

Christopher

Re: HP-8753E Option Key Installation Failure

Hi Jeff:

I am afraid there is no schematic. That is the biggest part of this troubleshooting endeavor. I am relying on the EEPROM Data sheet to draw conclusions. Then data sheet tells one simply how the CE, OE, and WE ?lines needs to setup in order to enter Read, Write, or Standby. Those appear to be incorrect.?

CE is sitting at 4.0V in all states, which is wrong too. According to the data sheet CE should be Vcc +/- .5Volts. In this case, Vcc is 5V.

I get a hint the op may not be very familiar with digital logic, so I need to mention the idea of inverted logic values where true is low or ground. The data sheet or schematic shows this as a bubble or circle at the input or output pin, an asterisk, a slash, backslash, perhaps an overbar, a prefix or suffix letter, maybe a minus to indicate true or asserted is low or ground. Not accounting for this will give confusing interpretations for control and strobe lines. In the good old days chips such as octal decoders (74ls138, etc.) Often had inverted outputs to reduce the glue logic for controlling memory ( ram, rom, etc.) and io interfaces. Adam Osborne (look in bookfinder.com) wrote a bunch of books that coherently described microprocessor systems.?

Re: Agilent E4416A series power meter

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

The E4416A is very similar to the E4418/19 series.? The power circuit is the same.? The measurement boards are different.? The schematics for the E4418B are in this package?

See the file labeled E4418B CLIP VO2.pdf

The battery is fine at 3V.? The usual problem with this series of meter is the flex keyboard in the front panel.?

Re: HP8903B - Plotting from HP-IB

Attilio,

I use Pete Millett's software.? It is no where near an Audio Precision GUI but I credit Pete and am thankful for his effort in providing this for all 8903B users.

Above are notes I posted on my setup using Pete's software on the diyaudio web site.

Re: Agilent E4416A series power meter

Agree w/Greg on the poor service manual. No schematics!

You need to investigate the "soft start" circuit. There should be a standby supply voltage present for that to work.
This repair video talks about this. Different unit but might be similar.

Good luck!

Re: Agilent E4416A series power meter

the battery is 3v.https://youtu.be/KV6pEl5kAUw
I measured the battery connected and the device is not connected to the 220 v sector. my device a month ago works well I was on vacation when I came back I tried to make it work so it does not work only the indicator light is lit in orange and when I press the on button for the display to light up, nothing happens.

Re: HP8903B - Plotting from HP-IB

Thank you so much Radu,
I have already downloaded Agilent VEE version 9 and version 15 libraries and installed them on my PC.
I also downloaded Pete Millett's four programs for HP8903B.
I don't know if I should also take the HP82357B interface or if I can use the Prologic interface that I already use with the Panasonic oscilloscope.
Can I try to connect it ?

Hi Dave,

Your belief is correct. GW Pickard¡¯s patent 836531 shows an early version of what later became the standard diode symbol. The anode and cathode assignments happened later ¡ª initially, it was just ¡°pointy thing means catswhisker, rectangle means rock¡±.
