Re: Latest KE5FX utilities released

I did not see any list of changes, updates, etc.
Anybody know what's new?

I really only use the Prologix Config tool.
Any updates to that one?

Mark

HI Jim...

?

Thanks for catching that. Every so often I get bit by that little trick of Windows. At least, that's what I blame for any computer problems I have, even if I cause them ?.

Re: Defective YTO 5086-7906 HP-8561E

Matt - I've seen the add B4 but don't believe he does "internal" repairs. Suspect he works on the bias board for some known failures, but not sure.

Nationaltest actually replaces internal components, a much bigger problem, but the REALLY charge for the service.

Cheers!

Bruce,
I can't imagine there are too many people that can rebuild these. It might be the same guy. The one on that auction site that I refer to has a username of testcalinstruments. His prices are negotiable, and I noticed his prices have gone up a fair amount since the last time I looked.

Re: HP85101B: looking for for A7 switching regulator schematic

OK - I fished out my 8510A CLIP. I have the schematic diagram for A7 85101-6007, and an A25 motherboard connections list. No part number for the BM, but the manual date is 10/84

If this helps, let me knaw and I'll try to get scans done

Cheers!

What I am looking for is the schematic for the main board in the 85102. It's not shown in the parts list but I believe it is designated A25. The parts list in the service manual shows part numbers for A24 and A26 but skips A25. In the corner of the main board is part number 85102-600025, which Keysight says is the main board but is obsolete and was replaced by 85102-60229, also obsolete. I've asked for information on the Keysight forum but no response yet.

Thanks for any help!

Steve

No, same thing. There is the placement plan with a double page number, but no schematic.

Yes check the rectifiers, I repaired a 172aa that 1 rectifier had broken into 2 pieces, something I've never seen before

The 4261A LCR meter came back today from being repaired under warranty.

The front control panel circuit assembly was deemed to be the culprit for the crazy behaviour I filmed with my phone and shared here.

After it arrived and I let it come up to room temperature I powered it up and ran it for 45 minutes testing a variety of passive components without a glitch.

New KE5FX Utilities available

Just found this release from 2 weeks ago. Looks like a lot of improvements from the 2013 version I had been using.

Thanks John!

Re: HP 1740A

Also check the bridge rectifiers near where the wire harness plugs in from the transformer. I've have quite a few of the 1700 series that had shorted rectifiers causing similar issues.
That and the various .200" headers for the board to board interconnects would have bad solder connections on the PCB and the header pins as if something over time was acting like an insulator between the gold plating and the solder.??

Re: 54503A

Hi Bill,
see attached PSU schematic I got from a guy back in 2009 when I was trying to repair my HP 54501. I also have the 54501 schematic in PDF ( from 90903 service manual supplement)? if anybody ever? needs it.

Thanks,

Howdy friends, I have a pair of 54503A scopes. Both had the dreaded Dallas semi Battery ram chip go bad.
I purchased a new Dallas unit and pulled the bad installed a socket and the new unit. Now The system will not boot I have garbage on the screen.
Pretty sure I must have broken an interconnect via while removing the old unit. (it did not come out as easy as I had hoped)
I have discovered the schematics for this unit are some kind of top secret as I simply can't find them. I read somewhere there is a former HP tech who works on these. Does anyone have contact information? I would like to send the main board for repair to this person if it can be done for a reasonable fee.
One unit has a bad PSU which is a poor design with the caps up against heatsinks. I replaced the puffed up caps but it looks like the bad caps took out a FET. Thanks to the member who did some reverse engineering? and provided notes I should be able to repair. In the long run I hope to simply get one to the point where I don't have to do the entire cal procedure every time I want to use it.
Thanks, Bill N5ZTW .

Re: Looking for a HP 1610B ROM image.

Hi Glenn,

If I was in a hurry, I wouldn't chose a 1610 ;)
Take your time, a spare set would be nice but with the ROM image(s) I would be helped a lot. If it's not to much work it would be nice to have the whole set to compare.

Thanks,
-Rik

I would be very happy with a copy of this ROM or an earlier or later complete ROM set for the HP 1610B.

FYI an 1610A ROM set doesn¡¯t work because the 1610B has 3 clock inputs and the 1610A just one.
If you're not in a rush I can get to this eventually. I'm currently
physically challenged with limited use of a hand for a few more days.
Given the size & weight of a 1610B it would be difficult to move it
around and get set up to work on it one handed.

I might also have a spare ROM set. The trick there would be finding
where I put it...

HP 853A spectrum analyzer display ROM image

Hi,

I've been trying to debug the digital display section of my HP 853A (with an 8559A plugin). The analogue display seems to be OK.? I've been through signature analysis and it looks like either the U34 ROM chip is faulty of else the image is corrupted since the signatures are wrong on this particular chip (although I'm not entirely sure the ROM image numbers match between my hardware and the manual I have downloaded).

I can't seem to find an image on the web. Does anybody have/know of/send me a ROM image for the 853A?

many thanks

Tony

Re: Defective YTO 5086-7906 HP-8561E

If you are talking about National Test, their prices are in my opinion excessive. He asked just a little under 1K for an 8340B YIG.

If you are not talking about them, I'd like to know who you are talking about.

Cheers!

Re: 8015A Pulse Generator ("Parts or Repair")

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I had an 8015A about ten years ago.? Beautiful machine, should¡¯ve kept it.? Separately variable rise and fall time from nanoseconds to fractional seconds.? I don¡¯t remember it making an unusual amount of heat and certainly no smoke.

The architecture is interesting.? Separate amps for pulse and offset, both wired as current sources and all dumping into a master 50-ohm termination resistor.

I¡¯d look for a fault in a driver causing shoot-through, or maybe a shorted output transistor in the pulse section.

I'd like to button up this project if possible. It's been on my bench for too long!

I (carefully) brought it up w/o issue. Ran through some testing and it appears to work well. However, the unit creates a LOT of heat, seemingly from the (heavily heat sinked) output transistors. Since the ebay seller said it started smoking, I have not left it on for more than an hour or so.

So I am wondering if this heat is "normal" or should I keep looking for a problem?

Thanks group!
