开云体育There's not much to it. I have two of themand one had a sticker with the GPIB commands on the bottom. There is only a handful of commands. I tried to calibrate the clock against my GPS frequency standard, but the trimmer is kind of coarse. So now, I just reset the time every 24 hours from my Linux/GPIB box. 开云体育Benoit, The problem on most HP Attenuators is mechanical. The o-rings on the rods break over time, this allows vertical movement of the rods and hence bad contacts. If you carefully dis-assemble the attenuator Im sure you will see what Im talking about. I normally superglue the rods in place for 1000`s more hours of switching. Agilent look for crazy money for replacement of these attenuators – thats why they dis-courage servicing so they can keep the monopoly alive! Let me know how you get on. ? Hi group,
Just wondering if anyone has experience fixing the "non-field repairable" attenuator of this Spectrum Analyzer ? My 8558B attenuator sometimes needs (when changing to a new position) to have the shaft "wiggled" to give the proper attenuation. This looks to me like a contact issue but since HP discourages servicing, I thought I'd ask here first... Thanks in advance, -Benoit |

Multiple 50 ohm termination for Aux A port on 8553/8555 spec ans

The problem arises because some, (most) instruments contain capacitors from both line and neutral to the chassis. These capacitors are generally refered to as "Y caps". If an instrument is operated without its chassis connected to line ground the chassis will float to half the supply voltage. The current is limited by the impedance of the "Y capacitors". Y capacitors generally have a value of less than 4700pF in order to meet earth leakage requirements. Damage can occur is the centre conductor of the spectrum analyzer input is connected to a circuit floating at half the line voltage before connecting the outer ground connections. Damage can occur if either the spectrum analyzer or the other instruments are not grounded. You can obtain a cheap device from Home Depot with three neon lights that will indicate if the ground connection is broken or if the line and neutral are transposed. I damaged a 3325A function generator while troubleshooting by connecting to an oscilloscope that had become ungrounded by a poor connection in a power bar. Explanation about warning label on 180TR + 8558B units

Hello to all,
Got a newbie question about a label found on top of my analog CRT main frame (housing my 8558B Spectrum Analyzer). The label said that a grounded power source is required for operator safety (no surprise there) but then it went on about consequences and how the frame will float to half the supply value possibly *damaging* the instrument. I've seen similar labels before but nothing about damage to the instrument. In what scenario can it damage the equipment ? Is this specific to Spectrum Analyzers ? If this is critical, I am considering installing a lack-of-ground warning system in my rack (or main frame). Also, I suppose that a ground rod would be required if I ever operate on a portable generator (mountain top repeater servicing for example) ? Thanks for the wisdom! Benoit Robert VE7EBR |

I've just become the keeper of an HP 5325B counter (SN 944-01273) and am intrigued by the model number on the front. It says "H71 5325B ELECTRONIC COUNTER", with "HEWLETT . PACKARD" underneath. The manual copy that I have has pictures of the front panel that looks the same, but without the "H71" in front of the "5325B". Does anyone know the significance of the "H71"? Regards, Dave |

I use a product called DeoxIT D5 from Caig laboratories Relatively expensive, but a little squirt goes a long way. This cleaner will remove oxides and sulphides from the silver plated contact.
