My guess is diode detector due to the bias number. Another, but less likely guess is noise generator as those usually use a higher voltage.?

HP 3580A/3581A "Input Sensitivity" skirted knob sought
Would anyone have a spare "Input Sensitivity" knob from either a 3580A spectrum analyzer or 3581A wave analyzer that has been removed from a parter unit?
I have experienced a rather surprising issue where the decal applied to the back of the clear skirt has started to disintegrate and fall off.? I applied a slight mist of fixative to hold the remaining characters in place but it was not compatible with the thin applique as much as had been expected.? For now everything is barely hanging on.
My 3580 was purchased in nearly new condition from a equipment rental agency years ago and I hate to see things like this happen to such a good unit.
Thanks,
Greg

Diode detector, maybe?? The Bias .75 (volts?) would be consistent with a detector.

Re: spectrum HP 8558b good but missing part
John,
If yo ever succeed in obtaining the Tech Etch finger stock, it is of the exact dimensions as the HP part.? The only difference is in thew bend angle of the fingers in relation to the mounting portion of the stock which will require a little bending to match.
You are correct in your view of the poorness of the switch design.? HP should not have relied upon such a tiny dimension of the heat staked plastic to secure the fingers to the switch rotor.? We all know that plastic will become brittle over the years as the plasticizer slowly disperses over time.

Re: Finger Stock - spectrum HP 8558b good but missing part
HP used those fingers on a variety of other switches and, while it might be a shame to scavange them from a working part, that could be done. Below is one example.
Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Not sure if this will help you or others but I have several NOS in sealed bags 300" lengths of Tech-Etch finger stock, 187P28-300-09
A PDF that describes the physical dimensions of the fingers is in the following document although the coating of mine with be different. I have the -09 coating which is a shiny nickel (I think) vs bare copper etc. The last two digits describe the coating etc. If you need some contact me off line.

Thanks ,
I did have the feeling that issu was comon looking at the plastic
studs ment to hold the leaf , I have about a meter of thin
screaning shield made of phosphore bronze coming from big Cisco
7000 I kept knowing how usefull it may become , however I don't
have the profile , dimensions , of the original part , and don't
want to bust the gold contacts with a wrong design....

Yes that is exactly the
issue after time they fall out and get lost.
If found they can be
epoxied back in. Then be careful using the switch. You can
also home brew a new leaf. Its very hard to do. Of course you
also don't have the right finger material.
But I have a number of
working units and all seemed to have lost one or another of
these switch fingers. I was lucky in that they were typically
in the unit some place.
Good luck and its worth
the effort to home brew if you have to.
Regards
Paul
