Re: HP8657B doubler issues
Sorry for the double post. I didn't think the first post went through.
|
I have read a lot of the posts here on these doublers, but nothing to help my issue. I have a problem similar to the one VE2ZAZ had with his. When the doubler acts up, the red led inside lights up, and the -5.2v supply gets loaded down. Then, after a minute or so, it goes out and the voltage goes correct. There is a power resistor by the 723 regulator that is overheating. It's by 2 MOSFETs. But with no service information, I don't know where to begin. It appears that the -5.2 and the +38 supplies only go to the doubler. Are the SPDT switches part of the problem, or do I need to focus elsewhere? Thanks for any help. Ted

Re: Free equipment, Los Angeles area
I'd be interested in the 8050A if you'd be willing to do that. Can you let me know about what that would cost? Offlist is fine.
Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Re: Schematic for HP 16047B Test Fixture
Does no one have an HP16047B? Any comments on my schematic? I think the microswitch is wired incorrectly. It only takes 4 screws to check inside. I see one for sale with 4 DIN connectors that I don't think are original.

I read through a lot of the posts on the 8657b doubler issues, but haven't found any ideas that match my issue. I seem to have the same issue VE2ZAZ had with his. When my doubler acts up, a red led lights up inside the doubler, and the -5.2v supply gets loaded down. Then after a little bit, the led goes out and the -5.2v supply recovers, and all is well again. There is a power resistor by the 723 regulator that has overheated some. I'm guessing that the led is tied to that regulator somehow. But I have no idea where to begin with no service data available. Also, is the 38v supply only for the doubler as well? Thanks for any help.

Re: HP 85044-60001 attenuator - sluggish rotation and imprecise detents
Do what Vladan suggests then carefully clean off any dried lubricant and re lubricate. Clock oil is a good option light on bearings and heavy on cams. Don't use lots and hold the unit so excess can't drop or run ito RF section when cleaning or applying oil.

Re: My $25 "In Poor Shape" 3468A has arrived
I forgot to mention I had to do that as well. Just used a fine metal file to roughen up a spot so the solder would stick without having to heat them up too much. The teeth on my clamps doesn't seem to have and conductivity problems, and clamps have a very firm grip.

The symptom was that on one of the leads, when measuring the resistance from one 4mm plug -> clamp -> 4mm plug, it looked effectively open circuit.
At first I presumed a wire was in place but not soldered properly, but the real problem was that there was a coating on the clamp's "gold" teeth. Filing the teeth resolved the problem, with the obvious downside.

Re: HP8657B Mains Filter Disaster
Bad news, good news: The bad news is that the suggested PVCu solvent doesn¡¯t touch the goo out of the filter¡.. well you could say it makes the cleaning cloth a bit black but doesn¡¯t actually remove any significant junk. I¡¯ve managed to reduce the mess
to the extent that it doesn¡¯t matter anymore and anyway it¡¯s invisible to the outside world. Fortunately the mess was fairly limited to a local area and didn¡¯t get all over the PSU PCB underneath. Some sticky smoke got onto the fan but it¡¯s not a major issue
and the mess there was probably limited because the fuse blew and stopped the fan rotating/sucking. I was fortunately right on site when the filter went up so got to it pretty quickly.
?
The good news is that the FN370-2 arrived yesterday morning and was successfully fitted and commissioned about an hour later J. So we¡¯re back in business!

Re: Free equipment, Los Angeles area
No, sorry, ALWAYS thousands of miles away, right?? Just wait until you see the great surplus deals on Mars once we colonize there.

Anybody in Florida doing anything like this?

Anyone in the area willing to pick up and bring to the closest UPS store for packing and shipping to me?? I'd pay a fee and of course deal with all expenses from the UPS store. I would really like the:
HP 8566B 3577A 8712B 8502A 8503A Tek Y400
Yes I fully understand what the shipping costs are going to be like.

All round, it seems to me that it's quicker, easier and less error prone to simply email attachments at the list...
I would tend to agree, but there are some readers of the list with slow connections. One person threatened to leave the list as I allowed attachments. He felt strongly that attachments should not be permitted. But his view seemed to be in a minority, although he was not the only one with such a view.?
So I suggest some common sense is used. If the file is small, feel free to attach, but otherwise stick it in the files area.?
People do have the option of configuring the largest attachment they want - it is one of the settlers in .?
Dave (list owner)?
