Re: Off-topic question re. oddball coax plug

I think you have a SMZ or BT-43 connector.
These were used to interconnect modules in some microwave gear.
They are 75 Ohms.

It has the same groove on the outside sleeve as an SMB, the same teflon liner just inside that, and a small diameter round pin in the center. There are no threads. I received some of these along with some Agilent equipment, but I don't think there is any connection.

Thanks!

Hi,
Thst will be a BT type 43 connector. It's a telecom 75 R type. Also know as an SMZ outside the UK.

Can't recall diameter, but SMC is used on some Agilent stuff.?

Re: Missing button cover on HP network analyzer.

Very nice :)?

One other thing I just remembered is that the rubber membrane keyboard on an 8752x fits the 8753C - apart from one or two unimportant key labels.
I have an 8752 membrane on mine.

Color wise, it needs a darker gray filament, otherwise it seems ok.

@Jeff, You could use a 3d hub near you to print it.

Re: HP 8642B develops issues when warming up

I should add the problems didn't occur right after powering on the generator, it was a over a period of an hour or more in which the incident finally started to occur. I have used this generator numerous times but not as long in duration and note no issues of any kind other than that moment of extended usage time.

Re: HP 8642B develops issues when warming up

I tried to duplicate the problem that occurred before. Run the generator at -70dB connected to a receiver with a audio source feeding the FM input with the deviation set to 150 kHz. I probed the test points on the regulator board to see if the +50 +15 -15 +5.2 -5.2 volt were there and steady and they were. After I ran the test for a while I did not run into the issue that occurred before so I checked the regulator voltages and they were fine. I checked for proper voltages and stability which I seen no issues. I will try to repeat this test later and see if the symptoms will occur.

As of the moment this generator works fine, frequency, amplitude, and various functions work as expected. Running the self test in the service mode brings up a failed test on A4 which I replaced that board but it still fails and rarely a19 fails a test yet the usability of the generator seems unaffected.

I realize I made a typo previously on this post. I indicated before A16 which is the attenuator for the 8642A however I have the 8642B, I meant to say A6, I apologize about that. This is the time base module. I recall before when I had the receiver connected to the output of the generator there would be brief occasional? break ups in the signal but it would come back, I finally and briefly got a flashing message stating A6 transient failure but that went away, and A19 was failing a test at that very same time. I turned everything off but did not unplug, after letting it set a while and turning back on everything worked fine.

The cover changed starting with the 8753C model (color display).

Re: Missing button cover on HP network analyzer.

I certainly need a button cover for my 8753C. If anyone decides to print and sell these, please let me know.

By the way ¡ª is button spacing the same on all versions of the VNA? (For some reason that I no longer recall, I thought that the vertical spacing between my buttons was narrower than another 8753 that I saw. But I could be wrong.)

Thanks,

- Jeff

HP853A/8559A Problem

I have an HP853A Spectrum Analyzer display with the 8559A plugin. The display and plugin controls seem to work but it is not displaying a signal regardless of the setting. I tried an external signal as well the cal input. Can anyone offer any trouble shooting tips short of trying another plugin?

Thanks,

Re: [OT] - Bird 4391M Data connector information

Yes, Bird made 2 conversion boxes for th 4391 power analysts,? a 4380-488 and a 4380-232.? They were about the same size as the 4391 and sat under the 4391, attached with a short cable.? one box did the conversion to ieee-488, the other to rs-232.

Links to the manuals are here:

Re: [OT] - Bird 4391M Data connector information

Ok, Bird engineer courteously answered, M is the military version and the connector's function is meant to connect with either IEEE-488 or RS232 boxes.

So, it is not a serial port, needs (some) massaging to get proper data.

a serial connection (somewhat DA-15 ITT Cannon, the item is not in my

I asked Bird directly but there is nothing on their site about this

Any help is appreciated, thanks in advance.
