Experience with AliExpress for connectors
I want to buy two Lemo connectors FGJ.2B.306.CLLD72Z
Problem is that Lemo want GBP19.24 each plus tax at 20% and have an MOV of GBP100 plus tax (or a surcharge of GBP25 plus tax) with shipping on top.
I saw this page on AliExpress:
< 4-16-18/32802964953.html?spm=2114.search0104.8.60.UYHEap>
Offering them at a lower price than Lemo and seemingly offering small orders and free shipping.
Are they OK to deal with or would I be throwing my money down a black hole?

Re: 141T reference replacement..a cure??
I found a power strip with a flickering indicator.? When I shone a LED flashlight on it, it went steady.? I don't have a photometer, so it's all "by guess by golly", but I think that phosphor-type white is more effective than tri-band.? I will search my junkbox for an orange one.? Any other suggestions?

HP 5347A frequency counter input level question
I have just acquired an HP 5347A frequency counter. A quick run-through appears to show that the instrument is working and displays frequencies correctly on both input 1 and input 2. Input 1 (the high-frequency input, 500 MHz to 22 GHz) has an input power level of +7 dBm Max. However, on my unit, I get the "Overload" message if I exceed about -10 or -11 dBm. Is this normal? I thought I could input up to +7 dBm without overloading the input?

Re: On buying gear. A happy story.
I bought, for a token bid, a Gigatronics power meter on ebay from a test equipment vendor. It was listed as will not power up. Received it in good condition and placed it on the bench. Plugged it in and sure enough it did not power up. Checked the 110/220 Volt switch and it was in the 220 position. Moved it to 110 and tried again. Still no display. I did not have a manual, but, noticed a contrast control on the back. I moved the control and now have a very good display. And, the power meter has worked fine since.
I was pleasantly surprised as this was from a test equipment vendor.

Re: (Still) need copy/scan/borrow/photo one page from HP 8673C/D service manual 08673-90022/08673-90100
Thanks very much, John - the link took me to a scan of the manual (and a repository of manuals) I was unaware existed.
The block diagrams, although rendered as four letter size pages, are of very good quality and will take care of the need.
Thanks very much (and thanks to the individual who offline sent me the block diagram separately I believe from the same file.)

Re: H'P606A, 606B Question
Hi. The only issue I've had in 20 years, is that one band position was binding. Looking inside, one of the ferrite cores had backed out and was rubbing the casting. Easy fix.
I have never understood why some people obsess about getting the dial calibrated to the width of the hairline. I use a counter on the output. Done deal.
I second the De-Oxit. I like the D100L. Works awesome and easy to apply.

Re: H'P606A, 606B Question
Have you tried a bit of contact cleaner/lubrication on the switches? I'd think something like a tiny drop of DeoxIT on them would fix that sort of thing.

Never even heard of SMZ connectors. I see they are 75 ohm, perhaps that's why. The connector I need is half the diameter, 0.100" !
Pretty sure it's SSMB.

Hello --
I'm in need of one page (8-43), a wide-format fold-out containing block diagram BD-1 from either of the above (preliminary for first printing) versions of HP service manual for 8673C/D synthesizer.
The scan on keysight web site is not usable for larger-format images due to severe authoring problems (the later version of the manual 08673-90138 is even worse - they scanned double-wide tabloid form pages into letter format with very poor resolution.)
If you have this manual and would be able to scan, loan or copy (or perhaps even take a series of high-resolution photos that I could stitch together) the requested page, could you drop me an e-mail off-list? Thank you very much for your assistance,

Dave,
You might see if Artek manuals has a copy. Their scans are of high quality and their prices are extremely reasonable.

Re: 8590B power supply problem
Hi Roland
Like yourself I am now retired after nearly sixty years in the electronics industry and keep myself sane by repairing, preferably, early solid state test gear. I particularly like Marconi because it is mainly manufactured from industry standard components unlike HP and the in house manufactured "unobtainable specials". On Sunday last I bought a none working Marconi 2022C at a rally and have got it working again.
Some years ago I had a contract with a government department to repair all of their computer power supplies, which were almost exclusively switch mode. These ranged from server PSU's to Lap Tops PSU's, over the seven years of this contract I must have repaired well over 5,000 of these, schematics simply did not exist given that, like your HP PSU, they were bought in items, usually from China.
I have since also repaired a number of HP SWPSU's which were of third part manufacture and without schematics. One of the worst were two for HP test sets which included built in inverters to allow operation from mains or 12VDC.
If you cannot find any one Local to help you I may be able to help you, I now live in Dover.

Hi Roland
I have been following this thread from the start.
In my experience you stand little or no chance of finding a true schematic, what you need to do is to find someone who knows how to repair SMPSU's and has the facilities for doing so. You can only really fault find on them when they are fully energised by the incoming mains supply. This requires specialist skills and precautions coupled with a safe working environment. There are lethal voltages present (370VDC at very low impedance) also a simple mistake can result in the SMPSU going into total self destruct mode.

Hi Tom,
I have the same power supply as yours and it's a faulty one also...I wonder if you sojve your problem and if you could identify fhe HP900 component ? I also think that it is an optocoupler, but not sure at all! It's a pity we can't find the exact schematics of this power supply!
My primary circuitry looks fine, have made some tests connecting 12 v from an external power supply so the NE5560 is running, signals seem to be OK on the buck regulator and the DC-DC converter.
So may be the problem is in the feedback??
If you have any infos, I thank you in advance!

Re: Time Interval Multimeter on HP-1725A
Thanks all. That got me on the path. I think this must be a 3476A as it does not exactly match the 3476B manual available online. Just knowing what it was encouraged the dismantling of same and a quick and superficial alignment per the manual the actual fault was simply very bad connections at the funky fuse/input section.

Re: 141T reference replacement..a cure??
I forgot to fill in "For 82V, we'd use [values]", because I noticed that the values Philips used (953K and 59K)?make something like 150V instead of 116V.? I realize now that the junctions begin conducting near?6V, not (7.5 + 1.4), so we want about 120K and
9.1K .
?
The TL431 still gets my vote.? (Using 150K and 4.7K .)

The file 'Signalite-Hivac neon regulators-LM317.pdf' is available from this link:
in a thread called '120V, 400mW Zener Diodes?' on the UK Vintage Radio Repair and Restoration Discussion forum at
?.
I saved a copy on my hard drive.
?
But the real gem is buried in the discussion.? The Philips PM3266 scope switched from a V116R2 to a zener/transistor circuit.
See the "Unit 7 - Focus" schematic on page 29.? Scans of the manual are out there.
?
They used a BZX79-C7V5 zener, whose tempco is +4mV/K, and a BF422 darlington pair whose tempco is -4.2mV/K.? The transistor pair?is stacked on top of the zener, cancelling the tempco's, and the base is driven by a resistive voltage divider which multiplies
(Vz + Vbe) by (R1+R2)/R2.? For?82V, we'd use .? Any quiet low-current zener with +4.2mV/K tempco would do.
?
However, the actual tempco of the zener is loosely controlled, +4 is just the typical value.? We're better off (and one component less) with a multiplied TL431.? This is in my opinion still the only approach that is simultaneously easy, cheap, and good.
?
Since it's the ratio and not the individual value that's important, any pair of thermally-coupled resistors with similar tempco's would work.? Metal film, carbon film, as long as the value is stable over time.

Re: Asymmetric trace "dot" on Hp 141-T display section
Hi Richard,
You were correct. I had thought astigmatism was only related to the symmetry of the focus in terms of the far edges of the CRT versus the center. A slight turn of the ASTIG pot was all it needed and now it is razor sharp. Incidentally I got my first pair of glasses today (I have astigmatism) and noticed the same thing when I looked at my computer! Razor sharp!
Thanks,
