I'll keep your suggestions in mind. Some pieces of gear were made better and because of it, lasted longer. Looking for exactly what you're describing. Only reason I'm staying with the legacy product is I still have one (in the moving truck, stored) and plenty of toner and parts.

Their non-consumer printers are still top notch, but if you're not
prepared to drop $4,000 on one, forget it.
Personally, I use HP's older enterprise-grade printers, like the
8150DN (mono) and 8550DN (color). They are indestructible,
maintainable, and trivial to get supplies for. And 11x17 support,
duplexing, and 32 pages per minute is really, really nice.
The rated monthly page duty cycle of the 8100 series is higher than
the total life expectancy of many consumer-grade printers.

I have two 141’s. One with the infamous VR tube, which consistently blows
fuses on the IF’s, and one with a more recent power supply. I’ve not used the
older unit in years, but I have purchased a zener, in case I ever get back to
that unit.

It’s an 82 volt, 5W zener.

I have recently acquired an HP-141T with the 8554B and 8552B plugins.
Over the past month, the fuses in the plugins have blown three times. I've heard

Looking at the schematic and the board I have, I appear to have the
older revision which uses neon lamps as a voltage reference. The lamp in my PSU
board is pretty black looking -- that may be normal, I don't know.
At any rate, I wonder if I can replace the V1 neon with a 62 volt zener
diode? Part number 2EZ62D5/TR8CT-ND
from digikey, for example? I think any difference in the absolute level could be
trimmed out using the +100V adjust pot. The biasing for the neon is a 5.6k
resistor, I think that would work ok for the zener, but I could change it
presumably.

Are you sure it's a 62V zener that's needed?
My HP141T neon was 82V. ?I ?have recently replaced the Neon in mine with two series connected 1W Zeners of 39V and 43V. ?It drifts slightly for about 20 minutes but then stays in spec. ?I did make a PCB to put a stack of 6.2V Zeners in series to give a better tempco but the two series connected Zeners seem fine.

If the part you're looking at is the voltage reference for the power supply, I believe you have some things to figure out. As I recall, the proper reference voltage is around 83-85V, produced by a miniature gas regulator tube that looks like a neon bulb, but much bigger. It's normally very stable, but does wear out eventually. I forget the part number, but it may be like Z1000, or 83A-something-something. It's definitely not supposed to be an NE-2, although someone may have put one there as an emergency substitute.
Once you figure out what's supposed to be there, you can replace it with a Zener or 431 circuit. This has been discussed a number of times over the years, so you may be able to find some info searching back, if it's possible anymore with this yahoo stuff - I think the last time the subject came up may be two years or so ago, so you'll have to dig pretty deep.

I have that circuit out in front of me trouble
shooting that 100v supply on anothe system. My thought is that a 62v "zener" is
not close enough to the 82v neon. You need another 20v?"zener" in series to
make up the difference. R118 only has a swing of about 9v so not enough to make
up for the lower voltage.?The 5.6k would deffinitely need increasing as the
62v?zener will be dissipating 400mW.
Good luck taking that pcb out is not a job to be
undertaken lightly!!

Rebuild kits are el-cheapo for the LJ-4. Fixes error 13.
Toner (OEM) can be had on Craigslist. Offices cleaning out the closet. Bought a closet full. (like 10 OEM toner cartridges). Have two rebuild kits in stock.
Think the rebuild kits minus the fuser is 75$ This takes care of all the paper handling stuff inside the printer. (rollers and gears, too). HP used to make awesome printers. Now? Just plastic junk. Send a wally world special 100 pages? It croaks.

I really don't like inkjet printers.? The ink isn't waterproof, and they gobble it up in expensive style.? Clogged heads too.
I want a color laser.? I have two but they don't work, both HP 1500.? My daughter lets me use her HP but it's a cheapie and I don't want to use it up.

Re: HP 8566B / 8568B bus interconnect cable
What sort of problems are you looking to have with it?
It is simply a parallel connection at HSWP In/Out, Pin 44, wire is white with black/green tracer.
Connector is $15 outside world option (not used), unless you have an actual piece of equipment to connect it to. It stops the sweep during a band change. If you have that particular cable acting funny, open it and look at the solder connections. I have several cables -60094 and -60220 that look like they were used for carcass hangers with pulled wires broken inside of housing.

USB Power Probe Calibration software
I have acquired an in-calibration U8485A opt 200 USB thermocouple power sensor and a way out of certified calibration U2001H USB diode power sensor. I also have the latest N1918A Power Panel (free version) and the latest full BenchVue (on trial for 3 more weeks).
Does anyone know about the (probable) software that can read (and write) the calibration data to these probes? Is a "secret' option in one of the packages I have? If not, how can I get it?

A good number of years ago I acquired an older, used, Wavetek calibrator. ?I don’t remember the model number off hand, but it didn’t come with a manual.
I tried all the normal channels to find a manual and had absolutely no luck. ?I even called the factory and they were unable to help.
Out of final frustration I wrote the president of Wavetek a letter explaining that it was a shame to scrap such a nice piece of gear simply because I can’t find a manual and therefore can’t repair the unit.
He sent me a manual.
I assume you have checked the offerings on eBay.
Dave at ?lists the operating and programming manual. ?Apparently it is not a service manual and it does not include schematics.

As to frequency range issue on your other S/A. If you have a signal generator or other source use something like a mini-circuits mixer and look at the difference frequency
Alternatively get one of the cavity type frequncy meters and a crystal detector
Im assuming you dont have a microwave counter
