Is there any way you could help me get my hands of the DLP for making a SA.

I am only casually aware of the function of these items.? Basically it's for making measurements at many points and storing them.? The test gear, say a voltmeter, counter, etc. has its input switched among many input signals and the results stored and subsequently uploaded to a computer.? Later, analysis is made either manually or automatically.

No, I don't think a hobbyist would have much use for this setup.? If you were life testing or environmentally testing a bunch of similar units, say transistors or amplifiers or oscillators or capacitors, you could turn on this setup and go home for the weekend, and on your return the results of the tests would be ready for you to see.

We use these where I work to monitor various sensors. Not too much use for a ham operator, more like lab gear.?

Look at what they actually sell for, that's a lot less.

Was there ever any kind of snap-on dust cover for the front

transport?

If so, any idea where I might find one?

Thank you.

In mine, the battery is a Tadiran AA 3.6 volt with axial wire leads. Here is one source. This is also the same battery used in the 70900A/B and also other 70k modules so buy a few if you are into the 70k series instruments.

WE have the schematics/CLIP for the 70004A but there is no schematic for the A3 display section proper . This usually implies that the display was originally a3rd party drop in and not a Agilent design

The Service Guide refers to the battery being on the A5 board and elsewhere talks about a red LED error light relating to a battery failure. But I did not see a part number for the battery, there is a crude drawing showing the location on page 4-10 in the service guide.

Thanks for the info on battery location, I went through the manual, and did not find it, or any parts shown for it. it is not shown in the error messages either, which is disturbing.

what possible purpose does this battery serve, and why is there also one in the display? does anybody have a part number for it, so I can get a replacement on order before I rip the unit apart?

I am aware of the LCD replacement (I have one waiting to install), but was just wondering if there's an internal intensity limit or contrast I can tweak to get a bit more life out of this display before I go that route. I don't see any schematics in these manuals so it's not as helpful as it might be in that regard.

does anybody have a true hardware level 70004A manual with schematics?

If my memory is correct, the color display is from Sony, probably the same one that was used in some of the 8753 VNAs.

Re: 70K MMS Questions

One thing i want to point out here is that the 70905 RF Section does not contain a preselector which makes it a pain in the ass to use, HP made a separate preselector module ( 70600A) but the better way is to find a 70908A or 70909A RF Section but you have to check the FW of your 900A to make sure its compatible !

The battery is a lithium battery about the size of a AA battery ,? its on the CPU board in the 70900A ,? when you open the lid of the 900 you see the CPU board on the outside , its easy to identify because it contains a little daughter board which holds the RAM and Firmware !

for manuals you can go to

70905A RF??? gives 22Ghz range.

on power up, I get a red ERR led on the LO (70900A), and if I query the error it says the battery in the 70900A is dead....well WHAT battery would that be? I see no reference to that in the manual at all !
I confess I am very puzzled by this.? The screen also shows an UNCOR white label, but not sure if that is related.? after a brief interval, the red error LED goes out on the LO module.

operation is fine otherwise, but I have not been able to source an HP-IL keyboard or memory cards for this anywhere.

my monitor is getting a bit dim, is there any internal adjustment before I give up on it?? how do you get the monitor section out?? it does not have the same bottom hex key removal as the other units.

any info appreciated.? plus I'd love to find a module extender anywhere.

Re: 70K MMS Questions

I'll add, that outside of the shipping costs, 70004as are generally cheap. I paid <$150 for each of mine.

You can also hang an external display off of an 70004a.
