Re: HP DVM / DMM technological history

I don't know if you want to include them, but there were also some scopes including the HP 1715A and Tek 465B that had digital multimeters glued to the top.

Re: WTB 3 Pin Socket for Probe Power

As a quick update - if you are in the UK there is an 1122A for 50 quid or best offer on a well known auction site or one for 63 bucks if you're other side of the pond. Not a totally silly price for a well built complete power supply in a handy box ready to go?

Another vote for Didier's site ...Among other things unbeknownst to most of you is he has a succession plan for his site in the event of his death for it to carry on ...He and I discussed this at length a few years ago and as a result KO4BB.com will become the final resting place for the ArtekManuals files after my passing ...None of us are getting any younger...However if my gene pool is any indicator don't get excited, I plan to outlive all of you anyway .... my father is 96 and still hanging in there <grin>

Re: WTB 3 Pin Socket for Probe Power

The connector had some discussion on : >>> <<< some time back. It is available according to : >>> parts.agilent.com <<< then, find by part, part number, 5060-0467 Only $36.57 plus tax. Or find a trashed HP 1122A PROBE POWER SUPPLY. Sometimes ebay listings are reasonable.

from the data in my 8553B manual that it may have been an HP
proprietary part as it's HP part number 5060-0467 and
its manufacturer part number are the same with a
manufacturer code of 28480, which is - you guessed it - The
Hewlett Packard Company of Palo Alto CA!

Now I suppose it could be a variation on some existing
design from a third party and was just special to HP because
of the color of the plastic or something and I do remember
that RS components (Radiospares as they then were) sold a
two and three pin connector that looked very similar back in
the 60/70s but who made it I don't recall - if I ever
knew!

How's that for a not-very-useful post? Perhaps it will
jog a memory on the forum though?

Re: WTB 3 Pin Socket for Probe Power

David,

I, too went on a lengthy search some time back for the same connector and finally came to the conclusion that HP had a custom part manufactured for them.

It was stocked in the Federal Supply System but whomever won a bid at a surplus auction probably looked at them and deemed them worthless.? Or, any available ones may be sitting in someone's garage or warehouse gathering dust.

I've seen a similar construction of a connector (molded body) that was used in small dictation recorder that were manufactured in Germany back in the 60's.? The were not the same size or pin count but were of nearly the same molded construction and pin size.? I think these were toe precursors to the DIN family in some respects.

Re: HP 3325A

I can't speak to the ROMS in the 3325A specifically, but a lot
of these ROMS have gold plated pins, which causes a very specific
problem. The gold alloys with the tin and lead in the solder to
form a very brittle semiconducting boundary layer. While it works,
it works fine, but eventually the layer will crack and become
intermittent. I would suggest resoldering the pins before you
declare the ROM rotten.

By alternately heating and cooling the area around U3, one of the rom chips, I can get it working and make it fail. It appears I have the beginnings of Rom rot. BTW, it has behaved this way for the 2 years I've owned the machine without getting worse.

It appears from a quick glance at the datasheets that the TMS2532 is only sort of pin compatible. The sy2332 has two select pins that are customer programmable for polarity. I think that is what necessitated the glue logic on the other (extensive) thread. I'm off to study that thread again.

Thanks to all.

After the recent discussion about the problems in a HP 3325 I think it would be wise if the group developed a depository of ROM programming files and modification instructions.

In the case of the HP 3325 the original fuselink proms can be replaced with a TMS2532 which is a pin compatible UV erasable eProm. If you want to make an adapter then many other choices are available.

In my case when I do such I replace the original proms with quality (Augat or MIL-MAX) sockets.

But the first thing you need is the programming files and you cannot always create them from the chips you are replacing.
