Re: HP 8620 help

The connector on the back of the 8620A is a 18 pair connector that is the
same as the one used on the centronics printer cable.

The connector on the back of the 8620C is a 25 pair connector that is the
same as was used by the telephone company on multi line desk sets. It is
also used on very old scsi systems.

HP made an adapter between the 50 pin 8620C connector and the HPIB
connector for use with the HPIP option.

Note that all of these connectors are micro ribbon connectors.

Don, it seems that you might have more than one problem going here. I can't address the others but realized that 50 Hz was your line freq. ("Furphy" was also a clue.) ;<))

It sounds as though you might have a ground loop in your measurement. I'm not particularly familiar with how that manifests itself in a 240V country but that's what it might be. If you're connecting with a coax cable try a probe, if a probe try lifting the tip ground, and so forth. Work it different ways to find what's best. It could of course also be coming from inside, in which case you're back to the manual and conventional troubleshooting. Best of luck.

HP5245L

HI all, have just joined this groupin the hope that someone may be
able to help with problems with my HP5245L. I have replaced all of
the electrolytic caps. The unit fails all the self tests in bothe
frequency and period modes. The displays all show zero. The 1MHz and
10 MHz reference outputs appear to be modulated with 50 Hz but this
may be a furphy and not mean anything.
So before I waste to much more time I was wondering whether there is
a common fault that someone knows about.
Many thanks Don...VK3YV.

Government p/n XRef?

Hi:

I'm trying to reverse engineer an RT-1444 which is the remote control add on for the PRC-104 H.F. radio.

It uses a 40 pin microprocessor that I thought was an RCA 1802, but after tracing some of the circuitry I'm not so sure.
It is marked:
<delta symbol> RCA Z
645515-901
8414

Can someone tell me if there's a commercial cross reference for the 645515-901 part number?

Thanks for any help,

Looking for a source for HP ATF-21186 GaAs FETs

DON CRAMER

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I believe the part I am looking for to fix my E4411A is a HP (Agilent) ATF-21186 GaAs FET.? The '21186 went out of production in 2001, so I'm trying to hunt down sources for it that would sell to a hobbyist.? I'm not cheap, but I don't want to buy a 1K reel of them either, so I'm reluctant to try and contact the usual "hard-to-find" outfits that cater to industry.? I may be off base here, so if you have positive experience doing that, I'm all ears.
?
The -STR suffix (ATF21186-STR) is for a 10 piece strip according to HP's datasheet, which gives me a possibility for getting a few devices as spares without having to "break a reel".? I would also be willing to buy a surplus HP assembly of some kind to get the part out of.? Unfortunately, I don't know what other instrument the part is used in, nor have I been able to find the HP internal part number.
?
Any input regarding places to look to buy parts would be greatly appreciated.?
?

Does a rack slide solution exist for pre System-II cabinets?

emailw8nf

I finally got an HP rack from a flea market! It's the newer kind,
that does not use unistrut. It came with some rack slides. The
slides won't fit any of my equipment, except the one, recent
(nonfunctional) HP-IB power supply I own. I am told the present
cabinets are called "System II", and with a few exceptions, will all
fit the same rack hardware - flanges, handles and slides.

But I have older stuff, a 141T, 333A, and other mid-1970s designed
stuff. The rack slides I have won't fit. Was there a standard rack
slide for these cabinets? Or do I just put in rails and bolt the
stuff in, and if I need to get to the back, I have to haul the entire
rack away from the wall?

Thanks!

Mfg PN for RF transistor marked "211"?

DON CRAMER

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hello,
?
I've got a shorted transistor in the RF assy of an E4411A spectrum analyzer.? I'm looking for the mfg/mfg pn.? It is a surface mount device,? 4 gullwing leads, round black plastic body, white dot identifying the base and its marked "211".? The part is running in a 2.5GHz circuit, and is used in multiple places in there.? The analyzer is about 1997 vintage.
?
Any hints as to how to cross a package marking to a real mfg/mfg PN?
?
Thanks in advance.

Wanted: 8505A Network Analyzer Manuals...

Hi,

I am trying to locate a set of manuals for my 8505A network analyzer
system.

I need:

HP8505A Opt 5,7 (3 volume set)
HP8501A
HP8503A Opt 1

I have found some or all from the various manual merchants,
but the prices are outrageous! $500 bucks seems to me to
be a bit excessive.

Does anybody have a set I could buy, borrow, or rent?

Thanks!

Chuck Harris

Re: HP 853A with 8558B

Lennart, I went to the BAMA WEB site and pulled down the PDF for the 8558B but
when I opened the PDF it has the same type A8 card that I have in the CDROM
copy I got. The A8 card I have is completely different that the one in the PDF
documentation. I wonder it there was on type of card for the military and one
sold to the civilian sector?

Hello,
Have you tried the 'LOGSA'-link in the links part of this group?
At least there is a complete set of documentation of the 8558B there.

5334A & OCXO question

fjh001

Hello,

I've a 5334A counter, s/n 2938Axxxx, and I would like to add it a
10544 OCXO. I see inside that there is a small connector intended for
an adapter board for the OCXO. ?Could somebody help me obtain the
schematic for this adaptor board and also let me know if there is any
other modification inside the counter to bypass the standard timebase
oscillator?

I've bee trying to find the service manual for this model but with no
success - only seen some for previous versions, s/n with prefix lower
than 2938.

Thank you very much. Best regards,

HP 1801A

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi Group,

there's a HP 1801A dual channel vertical amplifier for 180 serios 'scopes on ebay.
the one shown has a channel 1 output on the front panel and a magnifier switch.
I have another 1801A at home that doesn't have the output and magnifier.
Is there an option to the 1801A that adds the output and magnifier?

Many thanks,
Andi

Hi all,

I'm trying to find a manual for my 5245M counter. I do have a manual
for the 5245L and I know the only significant difference between the
two is in the frequency reference.

A friend has offered to lend me the manual for a 5248 counter which
apperently looks identical to the 5245.

Can anyone here educate me about:

1. The difference between the 5245 and 5248
2. Whether the 5248 reference is the same as the one in the 5245M?

Hello Morris,

The Difference is that the M-Versions have a very high accuracy
Time Base. It is the Oven and Oscillator of the HP-105 High Stability
crystal oscillator. I can make Copies of the Oscillator-Pages from
my 5248M manual.
