Hi all, Does anybody have a scanned Operation & Service Manual for a HP1740A 100MHz oscilloscope. People keep telling me to look in this "logsa.army" website but I can never get in there - is there a secret here? Full version required. Any help appreciated.

Re: HP 59309A HP-1B Digital Clock
There's not much to it. I have two of them
and one had a sticker with the GPIB
commands on the bottom.
There is only a handful of commands.
I tried to calibrate the clock against my
GPS frequency standard, but the
trimmer is kind of coarse.
So now, I just reset the time every 24 hours
from my Linux/GPIB box.

Re: 8558B attenuator repair possible ?
Benoit,
The problem on most HP Attenuators is
mechanical. The o-rings on the rods break over time, this allows vertical
movement of the rods and hence bad contacts.
If you carefully dis-assemble the
attenuator Im sure you will see what Im talking about. I normally superglue the
rods in place for 1000`s more hours of switching.
Agilent look for crazy money for
replacement of these attenuators ¨C thats why they dis-courage servicing
so they can keep the monopoly alive!
Let me know how you get on.

8558B attenuator repair possible ?
?
Hi group,
Just wondering if anyone has experience fixing
the "non-field repairable" attenuator of
this
Spectrum Analyzer ?
My 8558B attenuator sometimes needs (when
changing to a new position) to have the shaft
"wiggled" to give the proper attenuation.
This looks to me like a contact issue but since HP
discourages servicing, I thought I'd ask here
first...
Thanks in advance,

Multiple 50 ohm termination for Aux A port on 8553/8555 spec ans
Has anyone ever made one of these devices? Seems like it might not be too difficult - then again- are there any spares out there? Is it just a calibration error issue running with out one, or are there more subtle things to be aware of? 73 Dave, ZL3FJ

Re: Explanation about warning label on 180TR + 8558B units
Hi John, Thanks for the reply and explanation. Yes, I was aware of the capacitors (although I didn't know their name) and the neon tester (already own one) but unaware of the lurking dangers for instruments. One is therefore obligated to use ground rods when operating off of portable generators - correct ? Re: Explanation about warning label on 180TR + 8558B units
Hi,
The problem arises because some, (most) instruments contain capacitors from both line and neutral to the chassis. These capacitors are generally refered to as "Y caps".
If an instrument is operated without its chassis connected to line ground the chassis will float to half the supply voltage. The current is limited by the impedance of the "Y capacitors".
Y capacitors generally have a value of less than 4700pF in order to meet earth leakage requirements.
Damage can occur is the centre conductor of the spectrum analyzer input is connected to a circuit floating at half the line voltage before connecting the outer ground connections.
Damage can occur if either the spectrum analyzer or the other instruments are not grounded.
You can obtain a cheap device from Home Depot with three neon lights that will indicate if the ground connection is broken or if the line and neutral are transposed.
I damaged a 3325A function generator while troubleshooting by connecting to an oscilloscope that had become ungrounded by a poor connection in a power bar.
You can always attach an external permanent ground to the equipment if you are concerned about this.
I hope that this helps,

G'day Group:
I've just become the keeper of an HP 5325B counter (SN 944-01273) and am intrigued by the model number on the front.
It says "H71 5325B ELECTRONIC COUNTER", with "HEWLETT . PACKARD" underneath.
The manual copy that I have has pictures of the front panel that looks the same, but without the "H71" in front of the "5325B".
Does anyone know the significance of the "H71"?

As Seen on TV - Shocking Discovery Helps Everyone!
When I read this post I also signed up for the program and I am very happy to say that the savings have been overwhelming. I have not been to the supermarket once since joining without saving a minimum of 70% on my entire order. Thanks so much for sharing this huge tip with us!

As amazing as it may sound many people do not realize how easy it is to LEGALLY stop paying for their groceries! This is how the one hour television show began for the company whose website is at: I thought it was very interesting and decided to check it out. I am very skeptical by nature so the first thing I did was check out the company. I contacted the Better Business Bureau and found that the company has had no complaints lodged against them, I also contacted Paypal who has verified this company. They told me that they verified the company's licenses, bank accounts and other paperwork indicating to them that the company is legitimate. Then I started asking co-workers and friends about this program and to my surprise 6 out of the 10 people that I spoke with were already using this program. They told me how pleased they were with it and how much money they had saved and are currently saving. So I decided to sign up for this program on 8/2/04. On 8/9/04 I received my complete membership package and the fun began. Using their program and the free lifetime membership that it includes I went to the supermarket ready to make a killing. The cashier rang up my grocery bill and it came out to $239.87 then I presented her with the coupons I received from this program and I saved $223.38 - my final bill was only $16.49! The cashier wasn't the only one shocked. This program has changed my life!!! If this wasn't enough, using their restaurant gift certificate program at I received $90.00 in free restaurant gift certificates already!
