I would check the axially leaded capacitor that filters the 5V supply. It
is likely bad, and will make the display black.

HP3582a problem no chanel 2

Hello,
?
I recently purchased an HP3582A, and I'm encountering a problem with channel B. It's constantly in overload and always displays a saturated spectral line, even with nothing connected.
Channel A seems to be working fine.
To diagnose the issue, I swapped the cards for channels A and B, and I found that both cards function correctly, but only when plugged into slot channel A.
I also swapped 4 digital filter components , but the problem persists.
?
Is there anyone who could guide my investigation?
?
Thanks
Patrick

Re: HP 8566B repair

Can anyone tell me which circuit generates the intervals of the background noise?
Thanks.

Re: HP Basic for Windows 6.33, printed documentation

Advice from 35 years writing embedded code, unless you have a library of basic code you want to use, you should be using Python3 for new code. You can do so much more and do it easier than in Basic.

Re: Several problems with Agilent 54810

Hello,
?
hello,

Sunday, I took back my Agilent 54810 and wanted to replace my Atlas motherboard with my A-Trend 71110M Card.
This motherboard works perfectly with an ATX power supply (it has the 2 types of power connectors)
Once installed, (connection power is done by connectors P8 P9) it does not seem to start (a bit like the Atlas board that seemed to have a random start), I see that the signal "Power Good" is at 78 millivolts!
The 5v seemed to be at 5.18V (from memory). I don't know if it's to much?
On power supply you have 4 potentiometer? for each power (+5,-5,+12,-12)
I took the acquisition board apart and followed the Power good signal.? It arrives on a circuit TL7770-5, which controls the 5v I think.
The components around seem good. (r¨¦sistors)
An idea apart from a circuit out of service?
Have you the schematic of this board 54810-66501??
?
nb: This day (tuesday), the motherboard work and the power good signai is at 5v!!!
?
Is it the fact of having dismantled the acquisition card? (False contact on a cable, a weld,???)
I measured the tensions:
5.06v recommended 5.1v
-5.31v recommended -5.1v
12.26 v recommended 12.2v
-12.32v recommended -12.2v
This material is not far from the 30 years and has probably drifted in time.
Is this a reason for the power good signal to drop to 0?
It is controlled by a TL7770 -5
Can I re-weld his paws?
Remaking a voltage adjustment? It¡¯s a bit tricky but doable.
your opinions
nb: I have posted the pb on forum Eevblog, but no answer?

Re: HP-8903A Audio analyzer - Un-stable output below 0.5865V (3-relay OSC Board)

Hello All,
seems found the root cause of the issue?
?
1. I re-checked the FET/IC caps, can't fins trace of issue?
2. the OSC. output unstable is not 100% happened.
3. the behavior is depends to operation time (temperature?)
the volatge/THD is jumping
??
Presumed the issue should come from contacts?
try to raise Atten board with hand-made risers,
set to low output < 0.58V
slightly click the relay, only k2 is sensitive to touch.
?
de-solder the replay and check the resistance with 5VDC apply to coil,
Pin 3/5=150Ohm, Pin6/8=0.4Ohm, yes it is a bad reply.
since not easy to get one,?
I remove the cover and try to clean the contacts by very fine sand paper with alcohol.
it works again, not sure how long it would last.

Re: Weird HP 11880A N-Adapters

Hi Maurizio,
?
Thanks for reply.
I only read that a 50¦¸ impedance N connector is provided, not a 50¦¸ load or termination.
?
My point is that this adapter is explicitely described as 1M¦¸/0dB in the manual I referenced without any indication of loading.

A reasonable question to ask when you happen to get a 32 bit app running on 64 bit windows is whether IO cards and libraries work as expected.

For my use cases, I would only be concerned with HP-IB access to instruments (the purpose for running the code) and access to an HP-IB floppy (9122C) to exchange data with something that includes a floppy but isn¡¯t otherwise convenient to transfer data to/from meant for a third instrument.

You can download the kit constants from Keysight website. They provide the calibraci¨®n kit definitions so these kits are not measured individually. Just tested to neet the standard definitions.?

There is a test (don't remember which one) for Synchronous Detector, you
should see that LED turning OFF several times. It is ON most of the time.

I have a 8902A with ALL options, including that rare Opt.50 (002 030 032 037
050) which I had calibrated by Keysight last year -- it passed everything
without any adjustments.

BTW, I also have a 8663A generator that was never calibrated and I added
Opt.002 from a parts donor without any adjustments (all connectors are on
the front panel so there are 3 BNC connectors on the right). Surprisingly,
it passed the Keysight calibration last year with flying colors, no
adjustments necessary. Quite impressive pieces of equipment!

To anyone with HP 8902A know-how,

I just acquired a HP 8902A Measuring Receiver (SN 2834A) that was clearly dropped by FedEx during transport, most likely by the customs inspectors. The lower back bumpers are broken off (taking small pieces of the frame with them); there is no visible internal damage.

Some quick initial experiments revealed the following.
?? (i) On startup, there are no error messages, but after about 10 seconds the controller seems to be cycling through some subprogram causing continuous clicking of a relay. All voltages are "in the green" (LEDs on the regulator board).
?? (ii) The 42.0 SPEC command (display software date) yields 61.1987.
?? (iii) With a 7 MHz signal above -6 dBm, I obtain power readings about 1 dB off the mark, below -6 dBm the readings abruptly drop far lower.
?? (iv) No frequency readings could be obtained.
?? (v) On A23 (sampler), the NO HF VCO and OUT OF LOCK lights are on.
The service manual files are at the copy center (the brain prefers paper).

Questions:
a. Any direct suggestions based on the above random tests?

b. Is there a command for starting a fully-fledged test sequence?

c. The "Basic Operation and Application Guide" seems to be a running ad for the HP 11722A Sensor Module.
??? To what extent is this useful/indispensable?
??? Can one calibrate the HP 8902A without the sensor?

Any further suggestions would also be much appreciated.

It is probably easiest to use something like VMWare player for stuff like this. I use that a lot, with FreeDOS to run various utilities that will not even run on Windows.

HP 8340B/8341B SYTM pictures

Does anybody have a knowledge of what the inside of the 8340B SYTM looks like or what components are around the PIN diode? Pictures would be helpful if anybody has taken theirs apart for fun.
?
The block diagram shows 1000 Ohm resistor in series with the PIN diode bias shown in the figure below.
My low band output power is attenuated some of the time, with lower frequencies attenuated more than higher.
There appears to be running at least 1mA from PIN bias to the PIN diode which may be and indication to why my low band is sometimes attenuated.
Do PIN diodes generally start to leak current when close to total failure?

Re: Weird HP 11880A N-Adapters

Hi from the manual of the probe , you can see that the adpater 11880A to N , is made to provide a 50 ohm termination.

HP 8713B does not start

After 5 years of non-use, the HP 8713B does not start and after switching on only the display and the LED on the CPU board flicker. In stand-by mode, the green and red LEDs light up, which is normal.?
?
When I remove the A3 board, the analyzer starts and error messages are displayed on the monitor.
?
All 4 LEDs on the power supply are green.
?
Has anyone experienced this??
?
I have checked the electrolytic capacitors but all are ok.
?
Does anyone have an idea what it could be?
?
Thank you,
Franz
