Re: Hp8660c repair, extender cards.needed.

If I could borrow such a setup I would repair and calibrate my 8660C and multiple plugins. I’d like to do that before selling/trading the setup as I now use a 8643A. The cool thing with the 8660C is with the right plugin it will go much lower in frequency than the 8643A. So maybe I need to keep it..

The repair/service kit for the HP 8660 modulation and RF plug-ins and frequency extension module (a YIG package required to support the 1.3 and 2.6 GHz RF plug-ins) was called the HP 11672A. A photo (taken from a defunct ebay listing) is attached.

The 11672A kit provides the two (heavy and rather proprietary) cables needed to bring the three modules (modulation, RF and frequency extension) out for repair/testing. The HP 08660-60070 board kit is extender boards needed to bring the (numerous) plug-in PC boards in the mainframe up for repair/testing.

The connectors on the two large cables in the 11672A kit I believe were made by Winchester and include a number of coaxial cable contacts.

Good luck in your HP 8660C repair - they are nice machines, although I've found that their CW (but not modulation) capabilities can be somewhat duplicated by a TinySA Ultra and a small number of SMA attenuators.

I put up a question to a support page about an obsolete data acquisition system and got definitive attention by an engineer who knew the system and could help me. Maybe asking directly for support is better than the forums?

Thanks for the update.
I think I found a picture showing the 10811A in a unit also.

Hello Olaf,

I can assist you with this, e-mail privately at

Loan or sell,? we can talk.? There is a set of extender cards and some cables, I think as a service kit.

It is in a locking plastic container.?

(will have to find it) ?

Re: Test Set Program Development Tool DEV_PL on 3.5" floppy

IMSAI 8080 I remember from 7th grade in 1977 and 1978.? I was in junior high in Palo Alto, California, and we had one in the computer lab.? Also had a DECWriter, a teletype, and an Anderson Jacobson acoustic modem that would connect to one of the mainframes or minicomputers at Stanford University at the blazing speed of 300 baud!? I've heard of the other vintage items you have lying around, Roy, but never used them.? Nice collection you have, Roy!

Interesting gadget,? there.? In this room is my Imsai 8080,? a Kaypro 4,? and elsewhere is parked an Osborne Executive,? none of which have been powered on in several years.? In a cabinet over there is a bunch of floppies.? And I can't remember the last time I used one,? for any reason whatsoever.? But years ago?? I'd have been all over getting one of those...

Re: 5345A electronic counter *restoration adventure*

I have digitized the first fiche in the set (that has the contents table etc. ) and the schematic for A15
They should be in the instruments by part number directories in the files sections in a minute or so
?
Take a look at the ,pdfs and let me know if there are any other sections that you want digitized

Here's my copy. If you want more quality, send me an email.?
Im interested in your manuals, you talk about physic copy or digital scan?

Re: HP 8670B amplifier - does it ring a bell with anyone?

I can't find anything in my docs.? In the 1985 index of fiched documents (files section) there is no entry for 8670A or B
?
May indicate that?
- no manual was ever released
- by 1985 it was no longer supported even for service
- part of larger equipment and documented in a system manual
?
To check for (2), I'll take a look at an earlier fiche index and see if it is there

Re: 5345A electronic counter *restoration adventure*

I have fiche? -90021 dated September 1975 as being for serials starting 1528A
This does not seem to chime with your earliest version but the may be because my dates are fiche release dates and the underlying paper manual may be dated differently
?
I also have something marked Electronic Counters and Plugins Users Handbook (Sept 1974 and March 1986 rev 1) 05345-90015 that may contain additional circuit operation details
Also option 011 Operating note? 05345-90011
And GPIB interface supplement? 05345-90022
?
- If you send me a link to your 90025 manual then I will compare to my earlier one to see if there are any differences
- I will take a look at the handbook and see if there is anything helpful there
?

Re: HP 8670B amplifier - does it ring a bell with anyone?

Of course, the first two digits of the serial number would help fixing this in a period of time. But if there are no pictures, we are 1000 words short of a haiku.
?
I do like the idea of a System component.

Re: 5345A electronic counter *restoration adventure*

OCXO part number is 10554A, and it is installed next to A8 PLL board and PSU boards.
Actually looks that it is the only functional module on my unit, after about 30 minutes of warming up, signal is very good and stable.

R.

Please post pictures as you progress with the repair.
I am most interested in the oven oscillator option and where it is installed.
I want to compare against the 5334A to see if it is similar.

Thank you

Re: Test Set Program Development Tool DEV_PL on 3.5" floppy

Hey Dave M.
?
I'm slightly stunned by the outpouring of community interest and I appreciate your offer.
I don't think that Windoze 11 did anything to the disk. Windows does recognize the USB floppy drive
but it was flummoxed by the "non-contents" of the disk and dutifully offered to format it.? ;-)
I cannot offer any assurances that the disk definitely has the program on it but hopefully it is untouched.
?
Tomorrow I'll check my hoard of stuff in the garage to see if I still have a genuine Dell floppy drive
to swap with the CD drive in my old Latitude D600. If I end up mailing the disk to you I have a few other HP
original disks that should be archived for the group.
