If he were instead to sell it, He may find the market really too small to be worthwhile. Probably no profit motive here otherwise.

Re: Repair of HP Logic Clips
As one who repaired a few logic clips back in the day it looks like the DIY approach above missed something HP did, which was to interconnect the Vcc and local ground busses across both sides of the logic clip. IIRC HP used differently marked 20-pin IC packages in their logic clip so that just bending the end pins (and soldering them) across sides provided that interconnection. The ICs were mounted solid, only the contact wires flexed.??

Re: Repair of HP Logic Clips
I made me own Logic Clip (I really wanted a HP one, but they are very expensive now)
?
Just made 2 (equal) boards with
8 x dual diodes, for tapping off power and ground
8 x LED and a resistor (rect. 3 x 2 mm)
8 x Logic Level MOSFET with gate protection
the board also have 8 x pads for attaching to the clip and 2 x 8 pads for the LED's
I didn't included the capacitor in my layout, nor some pads for the connection wire between the 2 boards (power and ground)
Schematic and layout done in Diptrace, if anyone is interested

Re: Looking for an HP 970A probe multimeter *battery*
Mark- your post reminded me of the 970A and accessories I have here- with the same issue-I need to rebuild something to replace the battery pack-I do have the dimensions that someone on here sent me a couple of years back- not sure of the date of the thread but can look it up. There were a number of relevant posts at the time and I think the? dimension were in one of them. BUT- a genuine battery case to start with would make it a lot easier. I have verified this 970A is a worker but other projects have got in the way of this one. DaveB, NZ ?

Hello!? A while back, I picked up a box full of HP 970A probe multimeters - the ones that had a little 3-digit display right near the tip.? There are about eight of them, in various stages of beat-up-ness, along with a few battery chargers of two different types and a few current shunts.? However, there isn't a single battery pack among them. I'd really like to find just one battery pack, of any operational state (I can't imagine it would be working), so that I can take measurements and 3D-print a replacement, hopefully with modern lithium batteries inside.? Does anyone here happen to have one I could acquire (beg, borrow, buy, trade, whatever)?

Re: HP 16500C Display Question
I had the same reaction.
?
Eventually I came across some information about it. It appears there are a couple (probably more now) of devices to do the conversion and some fairly common pcbs to support them. I haven't got any further than buying a couple of PCBs but I think these are pointers to follow :

Hi, Gary,
Yes, that's the meter.? I'm actually only interested in the
battery pack, and I may already have a line on one; if that
doesn't work out, perhaps I could borrow yours for a bit to
measure it?

Hello!
I've used HP test gear all of my life (I'm 65), and now
have a pretty well-equipped electronics lab at home with
probably half HP and half everything else.? I also have
some older HP computer gear, including HP 85A and 87XM
computers I use to control the test gear with, and an HP
2100A that I'm restoring.
I use this gear professionally to design "widgets" that I
sell to various customers - primarily industrial, but also
some laboratories.? I also build boutique musical
equipment and hope to introduce a product into that market
next year.? Along the way I restore and maintain my older
audio equipment.
Right now I'm searching for a battery for an HP 970A probe
multi-meter.? It doesn't matter if it works (it almost
surely wont); I want to measure the case, then 3D-print a
drop-in replacement using modern lithium batteries.? I'm
hoping that I can beg, borrow, trade, or buy one for that
purpose.
Thanks!

It's great to see you on this list too, Mark, Welcome! I'm a decade behind you at 55, but I'm in essentially the same situation, minus (unfortunately) the music and audio stuff. Most of my work is in designing boards for analytical chemistry equipment and M2M/IoT communications. My gear isn't exactly "at home"; my wife and I have a biggish (24K sq. ft.) commercial building that houses her business, my business, and our apartment. So while we do live in a different part of the building, I don't really consider it a "home lab". So, tech nerds of a feather. :) Right now I'm searching for a battery for an HP 970A probe multi-meter. Re: Troubleshooting a 8591e with opt 130
Hi, I did the same tests as you, results in the tables. ? I attached a picture showing the diodes of the first mixer, I did the repair of two Spectrum this year with damaged diodes, so the one with which I did the attenuator tests today. Maybe you should do this check. Ideally, if you had another measuring instrument that would allow you to know the RF level at the J3 connector of the first converter, you could know if the first converter is OK. ? correction at OFF SPAN 100kHz resBW 10kHz vidBW 100Hz MKR peak REFlevel at -10dBm ? 300MHz | -20dBm | ATT | Level measured | 0 | -19.4 | 10 | -19.3 | 20 | -19.7 | 30 | -19.7 | 40 | -19.8 | 50 | -19.9 | 60 | -20.0 | | | 1500MHz | -20dBm | ATT | Level measured | 0 | -21.2 | 10 | -21.2 | 20 | -21.5 | 30 | -21.5 | 40 | -21.8 | 50 | -21.7 | 60 | -21.8 |
? Yves ? ? Continuing on the cal signal I checked the attenuator steps. After factor default and with correction off I found the following: I'm guessing my 20db attenuator is toast but I would have expected to have seen the issue coming back at the higher attenuation levels. Could this behavior be caused by something else??

Thank you for those curves. question, are you able to see differences (perhaps IC part numbers) that would identify the 3Ghz vs the 12.4Ghz versions?? i have an HP branded option 30 board with no indication of what it¡¯s designed frequency range is (it came with a bunch of other parts, so wasn¡¯t in a 53131 or 53132) all i know for sure is that it works well at 1000 MHz.
