If it is any consolation, I also cannot afford an 83650A/B/C/D/E/L.? I did work with/use them when I was gainfully employed. I do have an 8341B, but have to repair the? output first.

Re: HP8568B HT BASIC and GPIB NI

With my limited experience with both HT Basic and NI GPIB portal, I found that the default main bus ID was 7xx on HT Basic and the NI GPIB portal defaulted to 14xx main bus ID.
It is possible than you need address 1418 instead of 718.

Re: 35665A PSU disassembly

Hi Jeff,

I realize this is a 3 year old post but I found your message while
writing the hp wiki entry for the device.

The service manual (which I have a paper copy of now) doesn't talk
about the power supply in detail. It has 3 or 4 RIFA capacitors and
you will want to replace them. To separate the halves you need a set
of medical forceps to squeeze a plastic PCB standoff that is used to
hold the thing together internally. They were really worried about
vibration with this thing.

In the absence of a service manual, any tips?

By chance I was reading the memory upgrade procedure (35665-90060) which mentions a screw in the location of the standoff and says ¡°the power supply assembly will be damaged if the center screw is removed¡± which is a bit unnerving. However, on my PSU there is no screw, just what appears to be a solid metal press fit insert.

Re: Artek Manuals and HP 3325B

Yes, Artek finally came thru and I was able to repair the unit. ?Root cause of the errors was the 30MHz crystal in the VCO was not oscillating. ?Injecting external signal at the test point restored operation. ?I then removed the crystal and tested it with my 3585A. ?It looked good, so I put it back in and the unit started working. ?I am guessing that the heat of removal caused it to start being a crystal again, weird. ?Either way it has been stable for several weeks now thru multiple power cycles.

Hi,

?

I have an 8133A, I can imagine how it is built inside the 8131A.

?

In the service manual you have the electrical diagrams.

The error E304 concerns channel#1, so channel#2 should work fine.

By comparing the two channels it would be possible to follow the path and find the faulty section.

?

I don't know if you have already attempted this repair, but there is a lot of information in the service manual.

Well after 6 months on sale on various platforms with no interest. I've now picked up another 8131a, dual output this time hoping to at least make one good one out the two.

Powered it on annnnd..... E304 error, exactly the same as the one I already have.?

?

So now I have two doorstops. No wonder nobody wants them.?

Re: 8350A RPG 5060-9444 questions

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Hi,

This was a fun little project to fix this RPG.

The reflector serves as a support for the lamp and also to deflect more light into the tunnels, the amount of light can be controlled by blocking the tunnels towards the photodetectors with two screws.

The reflector was just a lightly polished piece of metal, so it was an easily replaceable part if needed.

?

When I replaced the lamp with an LED, I didn't need the reflector anymore since the LED covered the tunnel entrances enough.

?

I've fixed two of these RPGs, and I've never had a problem since.

?

Happy repair.

Precious feedback yours. The detail of the 45 degree piece of metal is interesting; in both of mine it was missing. Wonder if it is a peculiarity of 8350A or maybe someone else was in there before me and forgot? it.? From your foto now I understand how the lamp is kept in place

8563EC LCD problem

I was given one of these spectrum analysers presumably because the owner didn't think it could or was worth getting fixed. After fixing the power supply, which was a fault caused by two small electrolytics developing a high ESR, the unit powered on and all voltages were as specified.
?
But now I am confronted by a LCD display problem that I can't find a way to progress. Hopefully someone has seen a similar issue and can point me to a solution. Connecting external VGA monitors did not produce any type of display. The best I got was a monitor saying the mode was unsupported.
?
Trying to pull the 8563EC apart to access the LCD itself has proved difficult. I suspect some thread lock glue has been used.

have the paper copy if you need a few pages scanned or something while
you wait for the artek copy.

I ordered the manual from Artek for digital download last week via their website, and have heard nothing back on the download link. Emails and calls have gone unanswered. Anybody know what is up?

Re: HP 3310A Repair Advice

Hi Antonio,
?
Thank you for the thought.? I did see a mention of this in an old posting here from around 2016 IIRC.? I did check all of the PCB connections around the previous repair to the board in case someone was sloppy but I could not find any issues.
?
I'm sure there is a clue from the behavior of the unit presently -- specifically how the triangle generator ramps up but then edges down when it (A1TP4) hits +6.5V (should be +5V).? And how the bottom of the waveform varies in voltage depending on the frequency dial setting (current source/sink setting).
?
If you're curious, I've uploaded waveforms from various test points over on eevblog where I've another thread on the unit: ?

Re: HP8563E strange behavior

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

I had a similar issue but with a different peace of HP equipment. I have left a link to a YouTube video that shows the behavior. In my case it was a ground line issue. I had a power monitor that was doing some power line networking and causing some very strange issues with a low frequency Spec an. Especially if it is moving around the noise is not staying still this could be a grounding issue with the building wiring.

?

It was also causing some issues with an AA501A distortion analyzer and some of my other sensitive equipment.
