Hi All!
I have recently acquired an HP 1740A dual-beam oscilloscope - but alas without a User Manual.
I would appreciate help in acquiring a manual from this expert Yahoo group.

I found similar problems with my 8656A.? I
replaced all electrolytic caps.? I also replaced the osc. I believe it's
a FET,? try Sphere in B.C. they had some.? I still have one
extra.? It's not as clean as my 8647A but 100% better.

They all do that. The 8656A has a lot of close-in phase noise. Not clean enough for any SSB work that requires an extremely stable reference.

I have a HP8656A signal generator. Works fine for FM and AM. However, when using it to test a SSB receiver there is a pronounced "warble" in the tone and it is serious enough to affect the measurements. Any clue as to where to look for the trouble? A friend of mine bought one at the same time and place as I did (used equipment dealer) and his does the same thing. Any ideas or suggestions on how to repair it? Thanks, Hal Kinley WA4GIB

However, I see that they do appear to have a "free trial" for four weeks of the software. Might be worth trying that.
Go to their website - www.agilent.com - and enter "E4444A" in the search box. You'll get several links, including one to the free trial download.
As I recall, the software works with the 8590 and 8560 series analyzers. Benchlink runs on your PC, and you have to have a physical way to connect the PC and spectrum analyzer. For the 8560 series, only an HPIB card can do this. For the 8590 series, it can be HPIB or serial, depending on which options you have installed in the analyzer.
Hope this helps!

OK, Richard, I'll see what I can do. I'll need a couple of days to dig these up out of (shudder!) "The Storage". I don't maintain the scope in-cal any more and the manuals are in the dead file. Did you say that you had an 1809 or an 1809A? Send me the three S/Ns, privately if you wish, and I'll check S/N applicability when I find the books.
I'm not unwilling to copy the books for you but it's a matter of time. The three together must be at least an inch thick, IIRC. And they're glue bound and I know would fall apart if forced hard enough for decent copies. We'll see.
In any event, perhaps we should take this thread private. Don't know if anyone else would care much about the gory details.
So how's the weather in Modesto?

Fred -- <>< -- Outgoing checked by Norton AV Hi Fred, OK,how about the HV section ? What has happened, is similar to "blooming" in a TV set. I haven't removed the side panels, yet. Focus, etc, has no effect. But, the problem may be in the sweep section. The scope looks like in fair condition. Hard telling what this scope went through. One of the wrapcord foot is broken. Some knobs are hard to turn. Other than that, looks like a nice scope. For now, I'll suspect the HV section. Now, got to put together my 2 Tek 465M's. Atleast,my Tek 7704A (newest)works. Can use this one to troubleshoot the rest. Thanks Fred. If you like, you can send the info to blackbag@.... BTW, I'm Richard. Now you know.

No, I neither have nor know of availability of any of the models you listed. My collection is primarily Tek. Best of luck. I do not wish to sell any of my tube stock at this time. I don't at all mind being asked but my reply was directed to "free2beme953572002" (man I just LOVE trying to 'talk' to someone behind one of those nicknames) who asked for some 184A information. I take the messages as email and forgot that this list is set to send everything back to everybody. Perhaps Mr. Moderator (is that Tom Leedy?) would consider setting it the other way, as it is on the Tek list? Most folks are smart enough to figure out whether a reply should be public or private. End of two-cent rant, Fred -- <>< -- Outgoing checked by Norton AV

Re: HP-184A/Service Manual
Hi All, Looks like it's "request a service manual" time. The mil site had nothing. So, I request it. thanks.
|
Just bought an HP-184A scope today at the monthly Livermore Electronics Flea Market. Plus, a Tektronix 7704A mainframe scope....$ 15.00 !Checked it at home. The readout does work.In decent, good condition.A keeper. Used my 7000 series plug-ins. OOOPs ! Am I allowed to say "Tektronix"? Has 2 plug-ins; a 1809 4 channel, 100 MHZ vertical. And an 1825A timebase and H amp.The mainframe is a storage type. Couldn't pass it up for $ 20.00. Now, for the interesting part:No trace, but a glowing screen. Beamfinder is useless. No spot. Just the screen glowing. Tried BAMA for the service manual. Not in there. Next, will try the mil site. Stand by for a service manual request. Just to let you all know what can be had, at the right price(s).

Walter,
I looked up your HP part number, 1884-0019, in my copy of the FedLog (Federal Logistics) database.
This is one of the first times it hasn't shown ANY equivalent part numbers and other manufacturers.
But it did have some technical descriptive data, which I'll paste below, in case it might be helpful.
Good luck!
