Hi Maxwell,

Thanks for the info.

just sent a PM to Milan.

Re: HP3478A HPIB

Greetings Taylor,

While I do not have this meter, I did take some time to read the programming section owner's manual. I do not see anything in the command table that allows you to "clear" the instrument with typical HP-IB commands (ie *RST, RE or IN). According to the user's manual "C" is reserved for calibrating. However, it appears that the command "H0" can be used to return the instrument to a power on condition. The only other clear function I see in the manual is done on the controller side that can be used to clear the HP-IB interface. I may have to pick up one of these meters just to test my assumptions.

Best Regards,

Craig Petersen

Re: E4420B, A12 synthesizer/doubler schematic

Hi, can I suggest contacting milan.vasic@... who might be able to assist you.?
I believe the E4400-6002 is common in E4421B too.

Hi Bob,

Great idea. I am sure a friend has one.

Re: HP3478A HPIB

Taylor,
Just to be clear, are you sending something like "T3", not literally "TRIGGER"??
(I think the valid trigger commands are T1, T2, T3, T4, and T5.)

I can control the instrument with some Commands, setting measurement functions and Ranges etc, however when I want to send a "TRIGGER" command, it instead returns the "Error" byte which is denoted by an "E" command. Likewise if I try to send the "CLEAR" command as shown in the user manual, it attempts to enter the Calibration mode, typically denoted by a C command.?

Yet using Keysight connection expert, if I click on the "reset device" option in the IO window, the IO monitor doesn't show which commands are sent, but the instrument essentially power cycles and performs self test.?

So I am missing something, has anyone programmed one of these via the HPIB bus? Also, I have read online that it is possible to read back the Calibration table via hpib, but neither the user or service manuals say anything about reading the data back, does anyone know anything else?

Thanks,
Taylor

HP 8712C enabling LAN.

Having repaired the 8712 I'd like to add the LAN option.?
I know you can pull the ROM and reflash it but don't have the hardware for that.
I've heard a rumor its possible using GPIB commands or possibly another method without pulling it all apart again!

Anyone?

Regards to all.

Hi Gerald,

Do you have access to a thermal camera? A thermal signature may provide a clue as to the area of the short.

Re: OT: Wanted: .pdf's of SAUGAMO Silver Mica dipped molded Capacitor ?---? Data Sheets or Catalogs ?

The company is Sangamo.

In some type fonts, the letters have very distinct serifs, I think
they are called. The little hang-downy things on the top of a capital
"T", and the little upside down "T" shaped feet on the bottoms of lower
case "n", "i", "k", "p", "f", and their ilk.

If the ink is thin at the top of a lower case "n", the serifs can be
mistaken, by optical recognition software (OCR), as being the bottom
of a "u".

OCR software is typically made so it can guess at any type font, and
it is generally willing to switch font types between letters, without
worrying at all.

I assume you have downloaded the service manual from Keysight. Yes, the manual is more focused on sub assembly replacement. ?You might also check into the 4194A service manual which will have schematics. It is highly likely that the power supply system will be similar if not the same. It may give you a good idea of what might be the problem with your unit.

Hi,

would anyone have a schematic for A12 PCB only, please. I have a dead short on the -6V rail, cannot locate the root cause.

Re: 5342A: sometimes counts, sometimes not

Hello there!

?

As always happens in electronics repair, the first thing you see, no matter how clear and accurate it may seem, never solves the problem.

That IC hasn't made any improvements to the counter's behavior, so I was wrong. I have to continue investigating. I was pretty sure that the two signals, reference and pulses, coming to this IC are fine. But clearly there is some problem.

Some updates later...

Ruben

hp 4294A CLIPs ?

I have a HP4294A with a failed A9 Floating Power Supply (04294-66509). Does anyone know where I might find CLIPs or Schematics for this beast? The service manual seems to be geared towards simple module swaps.

And yes, I am aware that calibrating this unit will be very difficult. It is always interesting to see an Atomic Clock and 8.5 digit multi meter listed as recommended equipment.

Re: 8557A/8558A Switch Board Assembly - Contact Fingers

The 8557A manual has some pictorials of the switches and the schematics show representations of green switches along with the color wire codes attached to each switch wafer. It really is not that difficult to sort out the switches, orientation, and layers from the above info.
