Re: Resistance standard - where to look for parts
Bruce, You can try the Fluke group, but it's more likely you'll get substantial input on EEVBlog/metrology on that. Radu.?

Boards working condition is unknown. CRT Display is OK, nice and bright.
Also the keyboard part of the front panel (no CRT bezel and soft buttons
cover) if somebody needs this. No tape drive. The thing powered up, gave an
ERROR display (something about interrupts, maybe because there was no tape
drive and powered standalone -- don't have any other 8510 parts) so power
supply (main and postregulators) is in working condition, CPU booted up and
running, Graphic Processor worked.
?
Working power supply as well and rear panel, complete without the fan.
?
Top/bottom/side covers in decent state (no scratches/dings/whatever).
?
It will all go to a junkyard next Friday if no takers.
?
Will take PayPal for shipping. Shipping will be FedEx Ground.
?
Doesn't have to be "take it all or nothing", can be only some parts.

Offer to scan HP large format manuals - up to 36inch
Hi all
I have a large format scanner that can scan up to 36inch wide format, and almost unlimited length.
There are lots of old and really bad schematics out there that are scanned in really bad quality and divided in to several smaller pages.
I will offer to scan these schematics in high quality and in complete scans, not divided into smaller pages.
I am not scanning the complete manual, the normal lettersize pages you have to scan yourself (if not already scanned), but only the schematics since I have the special equipment for that.
You have to send the manual to me here in Denmark - and pay the return cost also - and I will do it for free as a help for all to get the old badly scanned schematics replaced once and for all!
It is a must, that the manual afterwards will be available for free for everybody.
?
Kind regards, Peter Andersen, peel.dk

Re: 8920a attenuator change
Normally it drops off at around 10 Mhz ...note the unit will operate down to .24 MHz but the input and output levels will be off below 10 Mhz.
Typically the 8920A had the mechanical attenuator ...must have been a very late if not Agilent badged version if there was such a thing.? ?IIRC the production had switched completely over to the? B version when the Agilent split happened .? Not sure the production went that long into the Agilent era ....most of the 892X units out there are HP badged .
The short answer to your question is NO
The module change needed is the RF input and you have to have the tuning data on that module ....really the only one that's all that critical. Easiest way may be to just trade that in a an option 55 8920B or? an 8920/21A? that has the right input.
I do have some? of those in stock.

Bill and Dave have been spinning in their graves for quite a long time. Once the CEO's of the company were not chosen from long term HP employees that lived the "HP Way" that started the downfall. Carly was the worst! Read the book "Bill and Dave" by Michael S. Malone and you will get the entire picture.

Re: Another 3GHz 53132-68003 Chanel 3 option design for the 53131A and 53132A
Ok, so I whipped up a test board tonight as I got the PCB's delivered yesterday.
One small hiccup... I accidentally ordered an older revision of the PCB by mistake (because I'm an idiot haha) so I had to get creative to get some of the parts to fit..... The good news is that it is now working! :D
So far, I have only tested it to a tiny bit over 1GHz from my Tek SG504 levelled Sinewave Generator, but using that and my SG503 levelled sinewave generator for the lower frequencies, I have verified that it currently works from 15MHz up to 1.05GHz over the entire input voltage range of 0.5V to 5.5V peak-to-peak. Not bad so far...
It does exhibit the expected spurious readout when there is no input applied, but playing with the bias on the prescaler chip inputs is a job for tomorrow. It's late, time to sleep happy with tonight's success. :)

Re: Hp 35650a 50 kHz Dynamic Signal Analyzer
I have uploaded the last-known versions versions of the 356xA software into the files section, for DOS/Win31 (3.05) and Win98,NY, XP (4.04)
Peter Brown's documentation uplaods look pretty complete on first glance. I'll be comparing them to my full set of manuals in the coming days.
Some interesting history:
The hardware was designed by Kit Ling of VTI Instruments. HP did the software and debugging in-house (Loveland, IIRC). Kit also designed the VXI versions of the system, which pretty much killed demand for the PC version.
Years ago I had an email chat with the fellow who led the debugging team for the 356xA (3566A, 3567A, 3565S) systems. He described being set up in a room with different OS's and several instruments they expected it to be used with, with instructions to find bugs and basically try to break it. He recalls doing this for 3 over months before they released the product!
I use the system with the HP software, both manually and under DDE control from HTBasic. It is a very flexible system and uber-reliable. You can use the SDF Utilities for data conversion, and the HP 35639A software to create custom graphs.
