I have a functional 184A with an 1809A and 1825A, and the manuals. They're a bit much to copy outright but if I might be of some help please ask.

Re: HP-184A/Service Manual
Hi All, Looks like it's "request a service manual" time. The mil site had nothing. So, I request it. thanks.
|
Just bought an HP-184A scope today at the monthly Livermore Electronics Flea Market. Plus, a Tektronix 7704A mainframe scope....$ 15.00 !Checked it at home. The readout does work.In decent, good condition.A keeper. Used my 7000 series plug-ins. OOOPs ! Am I allowed to say "Tektronix"? Has 2 plug-ins; a 1809 4 channel, 100 MHZ vertical. And an 1825A timebase and H amp.The mainframe is a storage type. Couldn't pass it up for $ 20.00. Now, for the interesting part:No trace, but a glowing screen. Beamfinder is useless. No spot. Just the screen glowing. Tried BAMA for the service manual. Not in there. Next, will try the mil site. Stand by for a service manual request. Just to let you all know what can be had, at the right price(s).

Walter,
I looked up your HP part number, 1884-0019, in my copy of the FedLog (Federal Logistics) database.
This is one of the first times it hasn't shown ANY equivalent part numbers and other manufacturers.
But it did have some technical descriptive data, which I'll paste below, in case it might be helpful.
Good luck!

Re: Information on 37203A HP-IB Extenders
Well, looking at this here manual, there is a RUN/TEST switch (A1S1). The test switch is A1S2 ( 6 pin DIP sw) . You need to set the COAX/OPT switch (A1s5) TO coax... finally, you have to set the rate. The test switches A1S2 should be in the OFF position BTW.
What else?

Information on 37203A HP-IB Extenders
I've recently tried to use a pair of old
37203A HP-IB Extenders to extend the distance of several IEEE-488 instruments
from the controller.? I don't have a manual on hand, but I thought the
units should be fairly straightforward to use.? I set the "controller
end" as Master and the "instrument end" of the link as "Slave," the rates at
the same setting (Normal), and connected the power and -488 instruments.?
Although I can see a series of negative-going pulses on the coaxial
interconnecting cable, I can't seem to get communications between the
controller and the instruments.? The length of the cable is about 150
meters.
Can anyone give me any guidance for their operation??
There are a few "mystery switches" inside the units along with a jumper
printed wiring board -- I left all these as they were.? Any help would be
sincerely appreciated.
Regards -- Tom Leedy

Ian,
In the HP 8558B service manual, it looks like those switches are just assemblies of many different HP part numbers. I could be wrong. I've never looked at an 8558B. But I didn't notice a part number for an entire rotary switch assembly, except "Front Switch Assembly (Mechanical Parts)", HP part number 08558-60100, which includes all of the mechanical parts for the entire front panel switch(es) assembly.
Your BEST bet is probably to find an 8558B "parts unit" to get the parts from. You can probably find one on , eventually. Note that you can put an "auto-search" on eBay, so you'd be automatically emailed whenever anything matching your search came up for auction. Just go to "My Ebay", then "Favorites".
Darn! I just searched ebay, for "8558B", and then clicked on "Show Completed items", and it looks like an 8558B Front Panel Switch Assembly sold on Dec 15th, for $57.55. Maybe you could contact the buyer and see if you can get some parts from it, or maybe just get all the rest of it after he gets what he needs. You can go to and then click on the winning bidder's ID (kcands). You could also contact the seller, similarly, to see if they might have more of them, or the parts you need. (They are a test equipment dealer in Wyoming.)
Also, you could try asking Walter, at Sphere Research, at:
But, if you do need any HP part numbers for individual switch parts, such as rotor/contact assemblies, shafts, or whatever, I can look them up for you. You would need to be very specific about the locations of the parts, since the rotary switches' parts are not all interchangable.
I also have the full service manual available (362 pages in two manuals), on CD, at:
Good luck!

Tom Gootee

HI guys
I have a HP 8558b with a hp182t m/f
I have two problems
one is the display on the 182t shows a sharp dip in
the middle of the screen wether the 8558b is plugin or not .
the second is the 8558b plug in .I have the service
manual for it and the plugin doesnt work .I have found that the sweep generator
is not the same board as is detailed in the manual and it has 08558-60018 on it
can anyone advise me if this board is a updated
board and where i can find information on it
Thank you ian wells

Re: HP 4952A software copy protection?
From what I have heard (so cant confirm) is that when the progs are copied from the orig disks there is a bit set on the orig and the copy of the program that allows only one copy. If the orig disks are copied with a program (on a PC) that will make a "image" of the disks you should be okay. Regards Steve Hi All
I have obtained some software for the 4952A protocol Analyser. These have been copied using the LIFUTIL utility. However wheras the data files work fine the applications (things like a VT100 emulator) give an error "Application Denied". I suspect and have read somthing about this being some HP copy protection.
Can anyone help or make any suggestions?
Many Thanks
Richard

Lloyd I'll gladly contribute some dead A/D boards to the reverse engineering cause. This board is probably the single largest failure card in the 54111D family. People will buy up 54111D carcasses just to rob the A/D boards. On occasion I have seen working A/D boards sold (off Ebay) for as much as $1500 each, when you can find them at all. I own of the beasts, one working, one about to be working, and one parts carcass (which I robbed the A/D boards out off 8^) If the schematics and board overlays still exist somewhere inside the organizational train wreck that has swept through HP over the last few years then the only way they will ever see the light of day is through a clandestine smuggling job from the inside. Agilent/HP wont even release the copyrights to the manuals for equipment that has been obsolete for 40 years let alone the schematics for a 10 year old piece of gear I wish you luck with your dream.
