To my Conservative brothers: feel free to - misguidedly - hate the Chinese. I incidentally still wait for someone to show me on the doll, where the Chinese hurt him. But ignore them at your peril.

Ah, that's why the HPAK 84904, 84905, and 84906 40 GHz attenuators come with 2.4 mm connectors instead of 2.92 mm K connectors.? And why we have 2.4 mm connectors on Keysight gear at work.? Thanks for the history, Jeff.? ? ? ? ? Jim

Way back when in 1986,when I first purchased 2.92 Connectors from Wiltron ( the inventor, which was why HP did the 2.4, cause they couldnt stand buying connector from their competitor, Wiltron), Wiltron assured me that the 2.92 was backwards compatible to the APC-3.5 and the SMA. Of course, this does not include Chink SMA's as they are crap, but real, SMA's made to Mil-spec standards, like OSM,Weinschel, Narda, etc.

Jeff, it has not much to do with the origin it of the parts. There are certain precision SMAs, yes. But they have a similar price tag like a 3.5

However: A cable assembly from a proper manufacturer, for example a Huber Suhner Minibend is at a price of 30 Euros per piece. Usually they are of superb quality, I have seen and used dozens of them.
But, with this price there is only limited resource for inspection, so a ooopsie could get out unnoticed. Now, as the law of maximum damage wants, you will for sure screw this cable into your best signal generator. And that's it for the connector.

Precision cables are always checked in my experience. Side note: I use SMAs (from China) up to 40 GHz in my self made semirigids, but I mechanically measured them with one of this connector measure thingies that look like a clock (sorry don't know the name right now).

But we're drifting off, sorry to have this started.

Tom, again, in my experience even the 2.92 to self made SMA transition did lead to proper figures in the VNA (I have a 8510C at home). So, I would not worry as long as the results do not give suspicion. But you know more than enough about VNAs, I don't need to tell you that :)

A12 maybe have damaged according to my test ?.?
Tonight below test items have been finished:

1. The voltage on A1 test connector can meet manual value .?
2. The value of powers ?input to A12 are all correct .?
3. Some Diagnostics have been implemented . But no failure .

There are only 2 test have ?not been finished , LO and IF signals test , because my SMB to SMA connector not on hand .But i think the result will be bad .

And i start to look for the sampler , so does anyone have the information about HP5350B A12 module for sale ??

Hi Samba,

Do you have the service manual?
Have you read the trouble shooting section?
Please be careful around the sampler, as it is a sensitive device.
I would follow the trouble shooting, and first check the DC voltages for voltage within the required range, and also check for ripple.

Next would be to check the LO signal. Notice this is around 14dBm, so use attenuators.
What test equipment do you have? (spectrum analyzer, oscilloscope with 500MHz band with, frequency counter, power meter and so on.)
