Re: Agilent E8357A phase lock problems
I've seen phase lock errors when the receiver access loops were damaged or missing. Are all of the access loops in the front in good condition??
Another place I can think of would be the internal mechanical step attenuators. The o-rings on the attenuator pistons always deteriorate and can cause intermittent attenuator operation, and disruptions/breaks in those signal paths.?
Is your E8357A an option 015 (configurable test set) unit? If so, it will have an extra 2 attenuators going to the receivers. Either way, I would definitely check the internal step attenuators out of circuit to see if they are faulty.?
If your attenuators are indeed bad, I can rebuild them. I've done many HP/Agilent/KS step attenuators up to 50 GHz (the higher you go, the smaller the parts get!).?
You can attempt it yourself, but it is a very tedious operation not to damage any of the internal components. The attenuator needs to be completely broken down in order to replace the o-rings, which are not intended to be a service item by design.?

WTB: Agilent DSO 80000 display card - part no: 0960-2530 - used in many Agilent DSO scopes
Hi all, Working on a few pieces of Agilent gear. One is a DSO81304B scope that I took a gamble on. Fortunately, it was not obliterated in overseas shipping and it seems to be almost fully functional.? The principal issue it has is with the display. I believe the PCI-E based LVDS display card is dead. I attached a pic of the card for reference. Here is a link to the part on the keysight website: ?. It appears to be out of stock since there is no "Add to cart" button as with other parts.? The unit does not want to boot with this card installed. However, without this card it boots just fine and works with an external VGA monitor. This card was used in a lot of DSO infiniium scopes. According to the KS website, the list is as follows:?
- DSO80204B
- DSO80304B
- DSO80404B
- DSO80604B
- DSO8064A
- DSO80804B
- DSO81004B
- DSO8104A
- DSO81204B
- DSO81304B
- MSO8064A
- MSO8104A
Would anyone happen to have this part laying around or in a parts unit? Or know where to acquire a replacement board? Many thanks, Kevin

Ditto; I thought it sounded familiar, but a quick search proved me wrong.??
My Z3801 was the most expensive piece of T&M gear I ever bought, and it's still running too, but it only gets used occasionally now.

Re: 3458A Schaffner Mains Filter
Usually, they come apart by drilling a rivet, and melting the tar... Some are soldered together. Tar = Messy job. -Chuck Harris On Fri, 09 Sep 2022 09:40:36 -0700 "Matt Huszagh" <huszaghmatt@...> wrote: "Carsten Bormann" <cabocabo@...> writes:
But if you need to replace them, getting a new line filter is a bit less of a waste of time. If you try to repair the line filter: Definitely do *not* get a replacement cap that is again a clear blob of hard epoxy; these will fail the same way some 20, 30 years from now. Best get one with a plastic cup and some more ductile plastic filling covering the capacitor coil. Kemet still sells metallized paper (MP) caps that appear to use the same epoxy coating. Do we know that modern Schaffner filters have opted for the film caps over the MP versions? Has anyone opened these up?
Also, how simple is it to open up the line filter and just replace the caps?

I just bought another Agilent 16702b.
The original SCSI drive has failed.? It was an IBM DPSS-309170 which is a 9GB Ultra160 68pin.?? ? There was an Agilent 16702-xxx part# sticker on the drive so I'm sure it was the original drive.?? It was set to SCSI ID 6 which seems to be the OEM value.
I'm trying to install onto a? replacement Fujitsu MXJ3367SC680600X which is a 36GB Ultra160 68pin.
I found it was necessary to install the "Force narrow:? 16 bit scsi" jumper (#7) on the Fujitsu? Odd verbiage as narrow is 8-bit.
More bizarrely the installer will only run if the drive is set to SCSI ID 0.????
If I set it to anything else (SEA in the BIOS shows I'm setting the correct ID) when the installer runs from CD I see "Scanning system for IO devices ... Querying disk device [id] reported a size of zero",?? Same as reported here:?
The drive seems to work perfectly.? I hooked it upto a PC with a Adaptec 2940UW controller and ran a block scan without issue (set to ID 6).
Anyone seen something similar?
Thanks
---
As an aside (in case it ever helps anyone else searching) when I did the install onto SCSI 0 I got a ton of errors of the form "Warning: utime of file: <path> failed.? Invalid argument (22)".? Sure enough the RTC on the board was showing 2088.? I reset it but next time it was showing the year 20135 ;-)? After taking half the machine apart I confirmed the 2325 lithium battery was reading 0.35V.????? Now I just need to wait for the replacement to arrive from Amazon, uncommon size.?? Hopefully this fixes the above issue.

OT WTK -Wanted to Know: Reliable sellers, and on-line lists.
Hi All: Does anyone know any reliable on-line sellers, or on-line lists, for HP gear.? I promised a student a scalar network analyzer (for some field data collection)... after a seller had offered me one. But then, they sold part of it (the power meter), and said good-bye on the deal, when I didn't want the ancient (and very heavy) sweep gen that they were offering. I'm kind of stuck now. There is a Wiltron (that I fixed); but I need at least on more power sensor. Does anyone have any leads? Best regards. Roy
|
Hello Eric,
I might be interested in the Wiltron signal generator. Could you give me some details ( price, pictures, actual condition, is the GPIB working, do you have some manuals available)?
You have listed earlier some other equipments ( HP 3488 mux and EIP counter). Are these still available? These might be also interested for me.
Thanks, Gyorgy

Re: OT - AN/PRM-10 Numbers on name plate
The 06728 looks like a "CAGE" code (Commercial and Government Entity), which crosses to Airtronics International Corp.
The AF36 number is the USAF contract the unit was purchased under.
Hope this helps! Bob Weiss N2IXK
