Here in the US engineering decisions are often dictated by legal concerns, you have a 75lbs box in Europe the ME design the straps to hold 85 or 90lbs just in case…. In the US they go more for like 150-200lbs and they actually use test benches to check how much it can hold!

Does anyone here really seriously think that HP would have put a flimsy side handle on a 45 lb. box? Shucks, their lawyers wouldn't have allowed it!
I've dealt with their 90+ lb. PNA-X instrument, labeled a 2-man lift, and they use the same design. It doesn't ship in a box, but on a pallet to be moved via forklift!

Forgive me for jumping in, but I must echo Lothar's comments about these straps. I have several hundred HP instruments here, and have had several hundred more go through my hands over the years. I always use the straps, and I have never seen one break, and have never heard of a broken one.
I don't know your background, but many people coming from lesser test equipment are rightly suspicious of cheap handles and such. This is not a problem in the HP world, and it never has been.

Yep the screws are metric on top of it which means they have a finer pitch which is better to handle pull , if I remember they were either M6 or M8 screws , doing some quick calculations you would need about 127lbs of force to rip a correctly formed M8 out of a Die cast frame , the 8753 weighs about 75lbs

The straps are mounted with quite sturdy screws into the frame side rails, and the plastic is just a cover for a stainless steel strap that is held by those screws. I have handled a lot of HPAK TE over the years and never had a strap fail.

Ohhhh, I live in the land of Lawyers (DC Metro Area). Their lawyers could careless, I suspect the engineers were more responsible for this decision.
I have to say, back in my twenties, I would have been all over 90Lbs. I now weigh <150LBS, vision is declining, and so are the hormones. Would lift it, but would need a few moments to contemplate what I was about to undertake.

If you could move pins 5&7 by 270mV but output only changes by 500mV it doesn't sound right. On the other hand DC voltages around U2 are pretty much right on target, and you are able to see a waveform on the display so at least DC wise it is working. Internally collectors of diff pair may be short and would cause such behavior but unlikely. Does pin 6 voltage change while you are adjusting R25? If you disconnect vertical plates from the A5 board and measure resistance from each plate connection to 53.3V (~ 165-ohm) and measure differentially (~ 2*165-ohm) do they look OK? Also check for a short between pins ?2&3. Ozan What voltage is mid point of R23 (~ 31.1V expected)?

Feel priviledged if you never had to tote a 8673D around
?? or a PNA-X
Instruments have gotten lighter mostly because the older instruments all used transformers and now everything is SMPS also they no longer use machined enclosures but die-cast clamshell boxes

I use plenty of high end test equipment, I own some too. Problem is, not many of those weigh as much. Sign of the times I suppose. When I went to pick this up, was a bit surprised at its weight. I read how much
it weighed prior, but that calculus did not seem to register until I had to pick it up myself.
Speaking of heavy, in the 90’s I used to lug a 8640B around an aircraft carrier. That was considered portable at the time. I am now much older, and would not dare carry a 8640B up or down a ladder well.

Unfortunately, this one is going to my office, and back home again with me. Long story short, I have a “special case” employee who begins to lose his mind if you grab the Advantest VNA and put it on your desk. Instead of listening to that drivel, I use this at the office too.
It’s already paid for itself, help me diagnose a Amplifier Output Matching Network problem that had me scratching my head for a while.

Yep the screws are metric on top of it which means they have a finer pitch which is better to handle pull , if I remember they were either M6 or M8 screws , doing some quick calculations you would need about 127lbs of force to rip a correctly
formed M8 out of a Die cast frame , the 8753 weighs about 75lbs

I use plenty of high end test equipment, I own some too. Problem is, not many of those weigh as much. Sign of the times I suppose. When I went to pick this up, was a bit surprised at its weight. I read how much it weighed prior, but that calculus did not seem to register until I had to pick it up myself.
Speaking of heavy, in the 90’s I used to lug a 8640B around an aircraft carrier. That was considered portable at the time. I am now much older, and would not dare carry a 8640B up or down a ladder well.

Lol Tucker went out of business years ago
?
I understand your concerns and its natural to be suspicious of the straps but I suggest if you get the time take a strap of and take a closer look at the straps and how they are attached to the instrument !? the only scenario I can think
of would be somebody putting too much torque on the screws subsequently damaging the threats but then again how many times you actually tote a 75lbs instrument ?

Bottom line is that with the weight of the 8753 there is no conceivable way the strap can fail ,? I fixed and handled hundrets of 8753 and other instruments at tucker and don’t remember ever a strap breaking , same goes for the PNA and
8753 units we used at nokia
