Hi,

?

I own an 89441A, and I too am one of the people interested in your floppy disk replacement project.

?

I have already experimented with a GOTEK on an old PC running MS-DOS6.21, Win98SE and XP and it works very well, in fact I have not encountered any problems.

Hi Mike,

Great news, I for one would be interested in details of your solution.

Oh yeah. I *hate* that! I have a whole mess of datasheets on my web site, but I refuse to upload any with that sort of nonsense in there...

I call 'em "branded", as in what they used to do with cattle.

Re: New member (with a dso-x 3012a not booting)

Hi Tommy don't worry,
do nothing more!
Close the oscilloscope and read all the topic that they suggested to you or:
"DSOX2000 and 3000 series - license, have anyone tried to hack that scope?"
Always on EEvblog.
That's the only way to fix your Oscilloscope.
You may need a LAN card for your DSO-X 3012.
I probably have a tutorial for this problem, it will be in italian language
If you want, contact me. (P.M.)

You're welcome, HaHa! I've created/updated a bunch (20-something) of pages in the past week or so.
I'm probably 'done' for the moment - just 4 more units that I could maybe add, but they're in the very cold garage...
In most cases, I've only entered basic info that was "close at hand": the most basic specs, a photo, and an intro date. In a lot of the intro dates, I show (for example) "c.1984" based on the earliest copyright date seen in the manual.
So, hopefully I've created a good framework that can be built on in the future.
Per Dave's guidelines, I've only uploaded manuals that do NOT have a 'mark' saying where they were downloaded from.

Vintage Boonton stuff for sale

Bob Albert

I have two Q meters (HF and VHF) and an RX meter for sale in Los Angeles.? Boat anchors, expensive to ship.

All in excellent condition with original or copy manuals.? Everything works.

The Q meters are dark gray, Boonton style, but the RX meter is more recent with HP gray and HP knobs.

Make reasonable offer, any or all.

I added the 3478a and 8643a pages but didn't get to the 4195 which I find a bit daunting. Plus, there's no VNA category yet.
Yeah, I have a 4195A too, I thought about it for a minute last summer and decided against doing that page, at least until I have like a whole day to spend on it. ;)

But, feel free to add categories. Use the mailing list to propose changes or additions, though, if you're not sure about something.

Is there a way to get the changelog for individual pages ? Looks like the "Recent Changes" page aggregates the entire wiki...
I haven't bothered with any changelog stuff. If it's just that the "Recent Changes" page looks huge, it may be because there have been a huge number of additions in the past week. If it's everything, then I'll need to take a look at it.

Also, I've been a bit reluctant to upload all the manuals & firmware I have - it's a lot of big files, already available at ko4bb/ keysight/ bitsavers etc.
@D. Mcguire : I'm happy to upload them but wanted to hear your preference first . A few 100MB may not be a problem today but if the wiki picks up in traffic you may feel otherwise...
There are no bandwidth or storage problems here; this isn't a "home" network.

But one thing's for sure, I don't want to find myself in the position of policing the uploads to make sure no Artek manuals show up in there, etc.

At last count, my ~/Documentation/HP directory was sitting at about 16GB.

Re: HP 8663A Keycode Stimulus Diagnostic

I'm not familiar with the 8663A, but I did have a problem once on my 8780A where the keypad didn't respond.? The problem turned out to be a broken copper leaf spring underneath the "8" key.? The key contact was being shorted closed and to the instrument, it appeared that the "8" key was always being depressed.? To the user, the entire instrument keyboard appeared as non-responsive.

After I figured out the problem, I realized why a single "8" always appeared on the display after the instrument powered up.? Doooohhh! :-)?

Re: New member (with a dso-x 3012a not booting)

Appreciate your help!

So, I tried booting the scope from a 12V bench supply.

Unfortunately no joy...

The thing draws about 2 Amps while doing nothing, is that reasonable (label says 100W on back panel) ?

Not necessarily a sleep mode.
When the on-off-switch does not cut mains power completely it means
the unit is not off but in a standby-mode where some electronics are
always active.

Re: New member (with a dso-x 3012a not booting)

Update to newer firmware if you can get the scope to boot. You're experiencing NAND corruption which can occur with older firmware. The update will remap the bad blocks(if possible) and provide better recovery options. You should be running firmware 2.65.

Main board has a battery, CR2032, I measured battery to 3.05V while in place.

Was the power on or off when you measured the cell voltage?

Scope was powered off.

Re: New member (with a dso-x 3012a not booting)

Hi Tommy,

does this scope has a standby mode?

More than once I've seen this sort of behaviour on various products that have standby power and switching supplies. One of the possible culprits is a capacitor that has to transmit startup-power. When they loose capacitance there will be a point where the unit starts sometimes, sometimes not, sometimes only when warm etc.
