Re: ROM / EEPROM firmware dump
I'd be quite surprised if gmail did it, but I don't mind being surprised.
Either way, if some "provider" arbitrarily blocks content, it's time to move elsewhere. Period.

Re: HP3580A Repair- Spurious Signal
Hi Bernie
I have only been able to estimate the 90Hz signal by injecting a signal into the input from a sig gen at a high amplitude to override the spurious signal and see where it sits on the waveform. I actually suspect that the spurious signal is nothing like 90Hz but a signal close to the LO signal or a harmonic of it. Regarding the mixer, I have replaced the IC and the balance trim pot to no effect. I totally agree that the best way to fix it may be another 3850. I have for some time been on the lookout for a HP8556 plug in for my HP141T that would solve all the problems. Thank you for your suggestions? Steve Dench

Is the spur exactly 90 HZ?? That might be a clue.
I would double check the mixer trim pot connections with an ohm meter on low range and also reflow the solder of joints.
You might need another 3580 to find the spur. ? :-(

HP 853A - no CRT display at all - troubleshooting help needed
I have HP 853A mainframe with HP 8557B (the 75 ohm version) plug-in. The 853A CRT has no display light output at all, at any intensity/focus setting. If I plug an external scope set to X-Y display into the rear X-Y outputs, the analyzer plug-in appears to be functioning normally (and the same plug-in works fine in another 182 mainframe.)
I've downloaded manual 00853-90010 and checked DC voltage test points on A3 (all were in spec), then went to section 5-13, and with a Tektronix P6015A 40 kV 1000:1 scope probe, I verified HV cathode (test point A4TP1) is close to the voltage marked on the module (-2467 volts). Step 5-13-8 it tells me to measure A6TP2 (which I think is a typo; there is a test point on A4 called A4TP2 and after this test point is checked, instructions tell me to put the cover of the HV section back on.) A4TP2 measures 27.3 volts at any setting of the front panel intensity control (the text in section 5-13 step 8 specifies 30.0 +/- 0.2 volts, and tells me what to do if the voltage is too high, but not too low.) I tried setting the 8557B to manual sweep to get a dot on the display, but no light seen. As the manual at this point anticipates that the CRT should be emitting light (and is mostly worried about too much intensity), I think I'm not looking in the right place.
Any idea where to look next?
Thanks!

Please upload the source code project somewhere, or
even email it to me personally. I can post it to GitHub for you
if you wish, and also set up a GitHub page that will compute the
codes in the browser so the whole ¡°application¡± will be a single
html file that you open in a web browser and that¡¯s that. Simple
stuff once the algorithm is known. I can literally pull it off
this evening (eastern time) since I got time for it. It won¡¯t
need any sort of a server to work: anyone can download the html
and it¡¯ll be the complete thing, and it will be tiny - a few
kilobytes, no kidding.
Web browsers are powerful enough that you could
boot an emulated Wine session right in the browser and run the
VB5 executable that way, but not much point to it since it¡¯s not
like preserving a game or something where the original visuals
are important.?
Cheers, Kuba Sunderland-Ober
?I have thought about posting the program to
generate the option codes on this group. It is a VB5 program
and works for the 8752, 8753, 871x, 872x, and 8702.? For now,
I am providing the codes upon request, but I am not getting
any younger and certainly do not want the program to die with
me.? I get about 2 requests per week for codes, so I guess it
would be more efficient to just post the program.? Let me
think about this.? I did try sending it to David Kirkby a few
months ago, but he never replied that he got it...even after a
second email.

Re: ROM / EEPROM firmware dump
The KO4BB site is very good. It can take a while for things to post. But they do get there. As I also recall anyone can get to the download section ahead of the release. But as mentioned you need to have a name or something. I have uploaded numbers of eprom images to the site for safer than my HD protection. Others have helped me with eprom images. Its payback. My last comment haven't been following to close. Whats is this program? Regards Paul

Re: ROM / EEPROM firmware dump
I¡¯m not in a need of a keyword. I¡¯m in the need of the application itself (exe or the sources) so I can provide an alternative that requires no PC and no special software, just a web browser. I¡¯m not asking you to do anything besides that, if that¡¯s OK.
