Dave, You are correct, I was wrong about the 339A it is System II Doh! My only excuse is I've been doing 12 hours+ work (at home) at the moment. I was probably thinking of the distortion analysers.

Re: 438A Power Meter Fan Transplant
Hi Sean,
?
It’s relatively easy to change the fan and takes about 15 – 20 minutes.
?
- Remove the two power supply plug-in boards.
- Remove the four metric screws on top and bottom of the frame.
- Remove the eight corner screws.
You will now be able to remove the fan from the rear panel.

Subject: [HP-Agilent-Keysight-equipment] 438A Power Meter Fan Transplant
?
Hi all,
Has anyone attempted to change a fan in this instrument before? It looks to me like significant disassembly of the power supply area is required in order for the fan module to slide out of it's slot in the frame once the screws, washers, and nuts are removed
from the fan.
Anyway, I have three 438As; one is in excellent overall operating condition, the second is rescued from the dead thanks to a kind list member sending me a replacement digital/controller board but has a bad fan, and the third is in pretty terrible shape, power
ref way out of cal, etc, but has a good fan. My plan is to rob the fan from that one and put it in the one that needs a fan.
Thanks!

Re: 438A Power Meter Fan Transplant
Hi Sean?
?
It would be good to open up the bad fan to
see if it can be repaired? you never know it might save you the time of ripping
the other one apart
Also whether it uses a roller bearing and find
out there part number so we can all get a few in stock ??
?
Regards Paul
?
Hi Sean, all,
yes, I've done it. As I recall it you need to at least loosen the back panel
and partially slide it out. I had the older version with fan controller.
I'll attach some picture that might help.
I recommend changing to a more quiet fan. My new Noctua fan does not have the
same air flow capacity as the old one but my HP438A is not on 24/7 in a crowded
rack either.
Good luck,
Marcus

Re: Series 1 & 2 boxes (was Seeking Spring Nuts for Series 1 cabinet)
Actually, I once received a System I instrument with a snapped-off handle. I negotiated “compensation” from the eBay seller, took the side off of the instrument, and went to my friendly local welder. Can you fix this? Sure!?

I was LOL, too, although I've never seen those built-in handles broken off!? I can imagine, as my 54504A scope has "feet" built into the aluminum chassis, and some are partially broken off.? It's supposed to be able to rest level on those feet with the screen facing up; that feature doesn't work so well these days...? Oh well.

Re: HP K21-5321B Digital Clock
First the dat hold and the other one(I forget what it’s called) are actually controlled by the computer. ?At least under TODS and the 9500D software we use.
I will keep looking for one of our old manuals but it sounds like there could be an issue in the decade counters. ?As I remember the 2nd board (not NIXIE board is mostly to do with the time mark outputs rather than the clock it self. I think basically you have the NIXIE drivers fed by Latch’s fed by counters that do the Seconds ?0->9 and 0>5 before kicking up to the minuets 0->9 and 0>5 etc
Again this is all from memory. I also haven’t been able to find our old boards I fear they are buried in 800 pounds of gold scrap.
I’ll keep looking Regards, ? Stephen Hanselman Datagate Systems, LLC

Hello, Steve,
depending on how I change the ICs the clock seems to run or not.
What I couldn't get away from is that some numbers are skipped
when setting the clock. This is annoying if you jump from min 58
to 60 then the minutes do not fit anymore. Much more strange is
that the display Data Hold does not go off when the clock is
running and also no matter if the clock is running and has a
plausible time or not always a time error is displayed. If I
remove the J-K flip-flop on the PCB these two indicators are off.
The device seems to be intact but I had exchanged it for an
identical one. I would exchange the other devices if HP had not
used Inverse Logic devices for the counters. Or is there a cheap
replacement for 1820-0119 and 1820-0116?
I would hate to build my own replacement for that...
Due to the inverse logic and the speed, the devices cannot be
tested on my current IC Tester... I suppose that the tester can
check HC and LS devices, so it has something to do with speed? Or
what is the reason that SN74xx devices can not be tested with most
IC testers that are available at eBay.

Shipping of which is going to be a real $train. I'm in Sydney Australia, use a reshipper in Hawthorn LA Calif.
Now I read this. How is that 8594E part-out going? Because... I have a sick 8594E, my first ever spectrum analyzer which was bought as working last year, but wasn't. Trouble is I don't yet know what's faulty, the repair is stalled, and I can't afford to make an offer for your entire one. Awkward timing. The story is here:

Hi Tom, Follow scheme 3314A (serial: 2836A14192). This is a version of the plot that differs from the older model (8 ROM). I designed to repair and study the equipment and it served me well, I hope it will be useful to you.
Hugs, health and peace for all ...

I'm looking for any documentation for one of these HP78330A ECG/EKG monitors, circa 1978. Would love to find the service and/or operation manual but will take whatever I can that might be available out there. Internet search just brings up the unit in the time line of ECG monitors.

The System II designation refers to the second design of MODULAR case. Not all HPAK instruments use modular cases. Obviously the ones pre-dating? it? can't.
339A and 3456A both use modular cases, the 3546A is System II and the 339A is the original, often called System I. The 5315A is non-modular (plastic case) so neither System I or II while the 5315B is modular, System II.
System I one piece exposed, cast side frames, sheet ot multipart front panel
System II one piece cast front panel frame, side structure hidden under cover panels.
HP sold both original and System II cases along side each other at least into the seventies.
Note that not all original modular cases (System I) had handles cast integrally with the side frames. you can't use absence of handles to determine case type.
The quirk of groups starting a new thread if you reply to an email is very annoying.

HP8510C Firmware C.07.00+
Hi,
I recently bought a 11575J Firmware upgrade kit, the 85101-80114 security key works fine, not so much the Firmware Floppy Disc (81501-80116). There is a disc error and the PG_8510C File is corrupted.
Could somebody be so nice and send me a copy of the content of this disc?
with very kind regards,
Gerhard.
