Re: new File called App notes

Paul

I am not sure what you mean by an app note ..please give an example. In my world an App is just another word ( millennial speak) for a "program". A lot like Hz replaced Cycle. Since 95% of those on this list are old enough to remember cycles do you want us to load equipment related programs uyo your App folder?

Dave
PS: I sent you another private email earlier today to which you didn't respond ?

I now have 2 units on their way to me. As I mentioned, 1st is supposedly working, passes self-test. The other I picked up cheap as non-working, figured it would be useful for spares. It has the 031 option, which the working one doesn't. The error the seller shows from the diagnostics is FAIL on interpolator chan1 and chan2, everything else passes. Any ideas about this? Repairable? If not, can I just do a rom swap with the working board and install that in the 031 optioned unit?

Re: HP 8640 REPAIR

Hi

If its the output hybrid one of the differences is the maximum operating frequency. At first the output module was limited to 500MHz and you had to replace it when the the doubler stage was added to take the frequency range to 1GHz.

As far as I know there is no difference in operating voltage.

Re: HP 3478A Ohms Calibration

To? GROUP? members,
Many are mailing me to reserve Red Devid resistors for them.? Back in Minnesota there are enough Red Devil resistors to go aound.? The issue I am faced with is that I was hoping to get my 3458A DMMs caled to measure the resistors to the best I could before sending them out.? However, due to the virus issues, they will not be caled while I am here with no deffinited date given to me by Keysight.

When I get back to Minnesota, there is one 3458A that was caled 5 years ago that I can measure the resistors with if any of you cannot wait.? ?Eventually, I will be upgrading that 3458A? with high stability Ohms AND replacing the cal RAMS,? which can go bad any day now,? with more current date codes. Doing this?will loose the cal constants.? I have performed this upgrade already to my other two 3458A while here in Colorado so all three will be needed to have a NIST traceable cal after the upgrades.? Given the shutdown, I have no idea when this will occur.? I have purchased the cals and just waiting notification when to send the meters into Keysight for the Loveland cal.

Once the meters are caled, this is the plan I have for characterizing the Red Devil resistors for you:

Measure each resistor to 7 digits with a 8th digit guard band digit using three 3458A DMM with recent NIST certifiable cals.? Average the three readings.? This will be done at three different temperatures to withing +/- 0.1 C so you have an idea of the resistor tempco.? That is the plan.

Be patient.? It will be awhile before I can do this.? It is now dependent on when Keysight will schedule to cal my meters.? This was an unforseen problem.

Gary and GROUP,
Yes, I can supply you with one.? ?I can help most of you that have mailed me with requests.? I may not answer you quickly as I am very busy these days packing and sorting but I will get back to each of you via EMAIL that have reached out to me.

If anyone has parts you are looking for, get to me while I am here is Colorado looking at my inventory here.? I will not be taking everything back to Minnesota with me for space is limited.? I have a 26 foot U-Haul truck and the priority items with be complete test instruments, protos, complete boards, documents and books from my library, loose parts (axial lead / ICs etc) and last will be incidental parts used in instruments.? ?I will get back here within a year to retreive what I leave behind but there is no guarantee when that will happen.

I will try my best to help you out.
Keep in mind, my main focus is to clear out my home here.? Packing and shipping parts is an added task that takes time away from my main focus but is not impossible to deal with.
