yet more hp CRTs for stuff day
walter shawlee
Further to the list I posted, I went to our offsite storage unit, and found another big pile of HP CRTs, including many new ones.
the additional ones include (all prefix 5083):? -4454, (2) -5152 storage, -3552, -4531, -9010? specan, 3976 NIB, -2570 storage, 9083 NIB, -5793 NIB, -4052, -3932,? plus 2090-0384 (Toshiba) E9054B31 I am posting ll the info on stuff day here:? and this year you can get items remotely, without coming to sphere, for your convenience. I hope these CRTs can help somebody restore their favorite HP item. also happy to swap for other HP items, like MSIB cables, accessories for the my 8753A, etc. all the best, walter? Need E5515C help on mods and features
walter shawlee
I got one of these (working) off ebay, with option 2 (2nd generator), and would like to expand the RF coverage range. I understand there is an option for this (I have no use for the cell features), and would like to go lower in frequency.? is this a hardware thing, or just a software patch to enable the range change?? if so, how can I do it?
Is there a user group or discussion thread on this like there is for the E7495 (an amazing bit of portable technology) that I can go to?? is there a way to back up the hard drive or replace it?? this one has to be pretty old now. also, any actual hardware manuals exist for this?? the keysight stuff is very modest is this regard. any and all help greatly appreciated, this is a nice looking piece of hardware. all the best, walter (walter2 -at- sphere.bc.ca) sphere research corp. |
HP-5354A, Schottky Diode 1900-0023
Hello all,
just joined the group. My second HP piece is next to me, a 5345A with a 5354A plugin. The 5345A seems to work fine, but the plugin doesn't. My investigations are now on the A1 mixer. I opened it and I found a broken input C1 and a missing CR1, 1900-0023. Hmm, up to now I'm not able to find any information about this diode except that it is a schottky diode. Has anyone information about this diode? Possible replacement? Any pointer is appreciated. TIA, Andreas |

If that doesn't help. over-scan and centering problems can also be caused by the wrong sync.? For that, check the third page of the CONFIG menus.? There's a button there called DEFAULT SYNC to reset the sync settings to NRM (normal) mode which are best for the internal CRT. My page 3 has only a DEFAULT CAL DATA? entry. When I press that, text pops up at the left edge of the 3rd row of the graticule saying "PASSCODE NEEDED". The picture below shows what was captured by KISS-488 pretending to be an HPGL plotter. Interestingly, the error text (I had been entering bogus commands via Telnet) is not shown at all on the captured screen, but the hp logo (plotter commands, not text) and the date / time above it are shown correctly. |

HP 5347A with 8482A Power Sensor?
Hello group. Wondering if anyone has tried using the 8482A power sensor with the 5347A. It is the only sensor I have.
Power ranges are the same but not the frequency range so clearly cannot measure above 4.2 GHz (accurately). Assume I would not damage anything... but does the 5347 work properly or complain? Apparently only designed for: 8481A (or D), 8484A and the 8485A. Thanks! Mark |
Re: HP3336b
To quote Wikipedia, as just one example....
"An RCA connector, sometimes called a phono connector or (in other languages) Cinch connector, is a type of electrical connector commonly used to carry audio and video signals.", so, yes, one and the same device, just take your pick.
Unfortunately though, and whether or not you consider it to be an oxymoron, that fact remains that these same connectors, or something so physically similar as to be indistinguishable, have been widely used on American hobby and commercial radio equipment as antenna connectors and/or internally.
I won't bother to quote names as this is common knowledge and the list is so extensive.
I'm not suggesting they are widely used as RF connectors on HP equipment but that is certainly what HP used for the internal coaxial interconnects on the 3336 series, which is where we came in, and I suspect, though don't know for sure, that other similar products such as the 3325 might also use them internally.

Apart from the fact that "RF phono" seems an oxymoron to me, I am not aware of HP widely using low-cost connectors. Are you talking about RCA/cinch connectors? |
Re: A dirty way to get more frequency resolution out of a signal generator
This will probably work but you would need a counter to verify the output signal is what you are expecting.
There is no guaranty that a low resolution generator will be able to hold steady on digits it cannot even display. --Victor |

I just tested the ZSETADDR and ZRDWR? commands given there, on my HP8595E. They seem to do something, but not what I'd have expected. Subsidiary problem: My 8595E display centering is a little off, such that the top line (where any error messages appear) is mostly cut off, making it very hard to read the messages. I suppose I can do the HPGL screen dump to my KISS-488, but that rather slows down the process. Is there a straightforward way to adjust the centering? I recall many years ago watching my dad adjust centering on a TV by moving the magnets around the tube yoke on a TV - hoping that's not the method here! |
Re: HP3325 - no output, but sync works
开云体育Simple check is to take the cover off, locate the attenuator board and find the input cable. Put a scope on that and it should have a signal – this would prove the rest of the generator is functional. Regards ? Nigel Adams – Marconi Instruments Heritage Collection ? I don't know if something like this is what you're talking about, but I thought I'd offer it on the chance that it was what you're looking for. ? Having a dead AM503B, I'm keenly interested in any information that might help resurrect it. Hi all: I am in the process of troubleshooting a Tek AM503 current probe amplifier and am looking for the small SMD sized type of grabber clips. I have some of the larger Pomona types with the L-shaped grabber. This is a bit large to clip around densely
populated leaded components. I did see the real Pomona SMD types, but at around $20 plus for single quantities, that is way too steep for my tiny hobby budget ( for my paying job..not an issue, as I recently purchased some of the Tek clips for their GHz rated

I searched Amazon, but the clips I found were cheap made in you-know-where (isn’t everything made there...??). And reputable ones were WAY out of my price range. I have some of the logic-analyzer type, but really do not want to cannibalizes any just to make grabbers for this project. Any ideas appreciated! |
Re: HP3325 - no output, but sync works
Joe and Szabolcs: thanks for the ideas! I have not yet opened the box (after years...). Since this unit came from my employer, who has a metrology, and calibration group, I‘m betting on the bad cable, bad power, or fuse. Once I open it up ( hopefully in the next 2 months, I will post what I find out). My unit has the ovenized stall oscillator and the high voltage option. I’m hoping to use it as a calibration source.....just need to check it against a stable reference (I also have an HP 105A reference source).
Thanks again! |
