Replacement for Inter-Board Connectors on 3325a

I want to add an 002 option board to my 3325a. I need four board to board connector cables. The connectors on these cables seem to be some sort of rf type. Are they a known rf connector in current production? If these connectors aren't available, can someone suggest a suitable replacement? I have found it possible to cut an rca jack pin flush with its sleeve, and then insert into the female connectors on the boards. I don't trust this since the modified rca jack may not be making good contact, and the original cables may have a controlled impedance I have to duplicate.

Any ideas?

Hi there it is much easiere just take the caibration letter inside the unit and look for the line with the model number. Simply enter the 8340 in there and you have a 26.5Ghz generator. It might have a few dbm lower output as the SYTM is not calibrated upthere.

You?can look in the manual how to change the values in the EEprom through the buttons on the front panel.

?
?

This may sounds crazy but have anyone tried to put the 8340 CPU board into a 8341 or just the FW prom?

I looked through a lot of the schematics and comparing the part numbers for major assemblies, they look extremely similar. The 8341 level control logic also has the 20Ghz breakout support just like 8340 does.

Although 8341 has a 20Ghz SYTM and 8340 has a 26.5g one, but the SYTM driver and control logic assemblies are identical.

I'm sure there will be some differences in the CPU boards (FW ROM) that disables band 4 in 8341. I am curious if a 8341 SYTM can be overdriven to send out 26.5ghz at usable output level if the CPU board allows it? Based on my previous experience with SRD, n and n+1 harmonics are pretty comparable in amplitude, and having YIG filter march up couple gigs is not impossible.

Thanks,

Calvin

Yes, it's the front frame of the chassis, without the panel that
buttons/knobs/etc mount to. Just the empty frame. Except for some that
were modified for specific instruments (I think those are quite rare),
they are all the same.

Re: HP 3455A stability issue

Thanks for the replies, finally had a chance to play with this some more.?

As a sanity check, I re-cleaned the relevant areas of the inguard board with a soft paint brush and Freon-TF, as I could see some small spots of residue from flux, or lord knows what.? This seems to have helped quite a bit, easily cutting the "creep" to half or less of what was seen before (have now seen it read as high as 150uV).? Naturally, condensation caused by the cold cleaner caused issues until it had COMPLETELY dissipated, easily taking over an hour.?

This made me wonder, has anyone used a conformal coating on circuits like this, post manufacture?? It appears that some of the devices themselves have/had some sort of coating on the body itself, but not on the leads nor board.? Curious as to your thoughts or recommendations here.? This would seemingly help instability due to humidity in a big way.?

As a sidestep relating to this, what is considered the "best", non-conductive coating out there to use now??? Years ago, clear Krylon enamel was supposed to be very good, but I can't imagine that would be the ideal stuff to use on critical, sensitive circuits like this.?

Regards,
Chris

though some people have found old integration caps most likely you have a leaky FET.? ?They are tough to find but the section in the manual that addresses this problem should help.

anyone have either of these available for purchase?

16700 symbol tables

I've got some misbehaving TEK stuff with early processors (6802, for
instance). I'm trying to find out what it is doing (or thinks it
is...)

I've got two choices. I found the inverse assembler for the 6802,
although I don't know enough. It's loaded into the 16702B, shows up
on the listing, but gives odd results. Possible I have odd
connections here. So I need to know (address is ok, data should be
ok, stat I have no idea what they want. Tried to find the proper
connections, not sure where to look. Did use the one for the generic
probes (assume that's ok).

So I need to verify the LA settings for this, and then assume that I'm
getting good data to the inverse assembler.

Another option would be to load a symbol table of the opcodes into the
LA and go that way, not too bad with the qualifiers, I think, although
the IA would be better.

So for approach #2, I need a way to make user symbols load on a
configuration. Looked at the help, and it appears that the only way
that the user symbols can be created is through the LA keyboard
itself. Granted, symbols can be loaded, but they seem to be more of
address labels than not.

anyone have any words of wisdom here?

Re: Distribution divider/amplifier for 10MHz GPSDO

It is a funny idea to use a GPDSO as local oscillator in a lab : phase noise is bad, there are jumps in the frequency even if the Selective Availibility is officialy abandonned. More, you have to make the difference between metrology oriented GPSDO (HP 58503A receiver) and network synchronisation oriented ones, almost all the ones offered on Ebay (Z 3801A essentialy). The quartz oscillator is not the same and the software is different (changing the software as chinese vendors do does not include the special double oven 10811 specialy selected). Two tests : take a SA and mesure a good synthesyzer with its own OCXO and with a GPDSO and reverse the test : SA with its internal OCXO monitoring... and with a GPDSO. Or take a 5370A/B and compare...
Purpose of a DPSDO is to compare on a long period of time a quartz oscillator or a rubidium DSO and determine an average of its drift. Under 24H this comparison is not relevant (if you compare a cesium with a GPSDO you can see from time to time in a day jumps of X 10-11,the frequency retracing after several hours). Adjustement of a quartz or rubidium oscillator is very tricky.: the best, if the offsett is not too high, is to mesure its actual frequency and determine the drift ( and compute if you need a precision of x 10-10). .Min time to adjust a quartz or a rubidium is 6 months after 3 months stabilisation (after each adjustement you will get about 0 error and after some hours its drifts again and you get, after a lot of adjustements, the form of the drift : it is parabolic and the purpose of the adjustement is to be in the top of the curve...
Main problem of a distribution amplifier is not to degrade the phase noise of your main reference, high stability OCXO, rubidium or eventually cesium with the high performance tube. There are 2 approaches : oscillator phase locked to the incoming signal (Racal for example) or tuned low noise amplifier (5087A), each solution having advantages and drawbacks.. Another topic...

Video dist. amps work fine as well.

The 75 ohms can be easily modded IF req 'd, but usually
its fine as is.
