Re: HP680M chart recorder ink.

Dave Brown

I found some pressure sensitive chart paper for mine that gives a 'just useable' trace from the inkless original stylus.
But I'd like to get some proper chart paper and ink. I have a 680 and a 680M-both associated with 581 d/a converters.
More inclined to use a pc with appropriate interfaces than the 680s these days, but they are occasionally used in anger-especially for quick results.

You can download the HP 680 manual from here
<>.

I've got some red ink for Grass Valley polygraph recorders if you want
to try some. I've no idea how it compares to your HP but I imagine it's
similar. PM me your mail address and I'll post a bottle if it's OK to
send by Australian Post.

I have an HP 680, too.

Do you have a Manual for the Chart Recorder ?

I have nothing for this Equipment.

HP680M chart recorder ink.

Brian Goldsmith

Greetings to all.

Does anyone know where I can purchase the correct ink for my still
functioning (but inkless) 680M chart recorder?

I am downunder but would buy from anywhere in the world.

Thanks for the read,Brian G.

Kinda historical even.

Walter, there were some copies in a store in Melbourne. I'll be there this weekend. I'll look and see if I can find them if they're still there. I cleaned out most of their other HP and Tektronix manuals but I never imagined that anyone would ever want to repair a HP 1200 scope!

does anybody have a PDF of this great old differential scope? It's a great audio tool (true differential inputs, 100uV/div sensitivity) , but I'd really like a full manual if I can find one. Nothing on the usual sites, I have scoured the net.

any help appreciated,

We have three of these, two have the mating male panel connector, and they
are FREE ( you pay shipping, USPS padded envelops, probably less than $6
to the lower 48) We'll calculate postage once someone speaks for these.
I wouldn't mind having just one.

Thank you.

Re: problems with 8555A - thanks!

All,
I want to thank you all who replied.

I fixed the unit, the problem was a bad A2A5Q2 (B-C junction open) in
the 50MHz amplifier. Now it is well in spec on sensitivity and noise
sidebands. Frequency response is ok up to 2G, as I do not have
generators for higher frequencies.

The are still a couple of minor glitches I am investigating:

- sometimes the tuning stabilizer unlocks. Switching it off and on again
seems to cure the problem, then it may stay locked for hours or unlock
again shortly
- I noticed some spurs at the left (only, not at the right) of the LO
feedthrough, at 3-4-5MHz

BTW, I prepared a wiring map in PDF of the interconnections inside the
A10 board, one thing not covered by the manual. I tried to upload it in
the files section but it is full. If eventually someone would need it,
please let me know.

Thank you again and regards
Paolo

All,
I have an 8555A RF plug-in that does not work: I only see the noise
floor and a very low LO feedthrough, but no signal. I checked the 1st
converter, the emitter current is 18.2mA while the collector current is
22.5mA, The manual says that Ic should not exceed 10% less than Ie, is
this a clear indication that the 1st converter is gone? The front-rear
check of the mixer diode looks good, it is not shorted nor open. +10V
and -10V are just perfect.

Any suggestion will be appreciated

Re: Question RE: Hp1631D GPIB

Sounds like you are quite far along...

I'm referring to an internal file created
while working with Peter L. (author of
the HP913x drive emulator) trying to
understand the command structure of the 1631D.
This crafty piece of software (drive emulator sw.)
mimicks the HPIB 913x drive (that was meant to
be connected to the 1631D) using nothing more than
an NI GPIB card and a PC. This setup allows one
one to save/recall setting as well as data and
HP inverse assembler programs. It is completely
operated from the 1631D and can be packaged in
a small 486 embedded PC (if you want). Please
refer to message #17769 on this list for a
few more details. Hope this helps you.

-Benoit

The program I'm writing started out as a simple way of sending commands to the Analyzer via the GPIB bus (over the Prologix USB-GPIB controller). I would like to be able to save the settings for the Analyzer in a file and send them to the Analyzer later, since the Analyzer does not remember what it's configuration is when power is re-applied.
Currently, my program has a GUI that looks like the front panel of the Hp1631D, and I can draw retrieved timing, analog and state data in the GUI as well.

A few moons ago, I peeked at the fw. code in the ROMs
of my 1631D and have labelled quite a few things.
I have the command dispatch table for example and
a few other routines labeled (try the undocumented
HPIB revision command "RV" for fun). Anyway, the
information in my file might be of help in your
situation as I have the command "TT" broken down.

What kind of control program are you writing,

According to the manual, I should be able to just send whatever the Analyzer gave me back through the GPIB bus and have the Analyzer reinstate the settings it's been given. I'm under the impression that the Analyzer will try to verify the CRC that it receives, so the CRC has to be correct (or is this an invalid assumption?).

Anybody going to the Melbourne Fla hamfest this weekend?

Just wondering who all will be there. I'm going and Harvey White also says that he will be there.

connecting a HP8407 VNA to a HP5326 counter

I have both and want to connect them. I have a HP journal that shows a drawing about how to do that but they write that the display has a modified Z input. I used a T-piece instead but I do not get a picture and the counter follows the sweep. I wat to get a marker and the frequency from the marker. I tested the 5326 markers according the manual on the Z input of a scope and that is OK.

The manual tells me the 8412 has a switch on a pcb to switch between negatief or positive markers but I can not find a switch or something that looks like that.

Has someone in the sixties/seventies ever tryed this.

Fred
