Re: N9020A
I'd advise some caution here. It looks like the same ebay seller could be using 6 or 7 different ebay accounts to sell MXA analysers all with the same title and pictures.
Also, the ebay description is misleading from every 'seller'. It could be interpreted that the seller is actually only selling the XP operating system used by the MXA analyser. I'd recommend you ask the seller what they are actually selling. |
Re: N9020A
Is this model that much better than the older units like the 8566B?

Maybe they've been there all along and I just didnt notice? Anyone ever purchased one? Anyway I've taken a punt and purchased one which seems to have most of the useful stuff installed except RTSA which I'd be very interested to know how to implement. Your thoughts? Regards Stretchy |
Re: Scan From 1404A Amplifier Manual
Jeremy, I went back and looked at the listing and that one has a 1405A amplifier, not a 1404A.? That amplifier does, however, have CHOP mode so it may still be a worthwhile test. Thanks again, Barry - N4BUQ

Re: Scan From 1404A Amplifier Manual
Jeremy, The reason I'm looking into those waveforms is that when I switch the amplifier to CHOP mode, the traces become a bit "fat".? It appears there's some sort of high-frequency noise that's causing the traces to appear fatter in the negative direction - i.e. the trace is there but there's a wider "shadow" on the negative side of the trace.? I was thinking it was probably the chop multi-vibrator getting into the power rails and that still might be it; however, I'm also wondering if the blanking between the chopping action might not be working properly which could cause that ghosting effect. If I recall, the scope you obtained recently is configured just like mine with a 1421A time-base and a 1404A vertical amplifier.? If so, if you select at least two channels and select CHOP mode, do your traces change - especially do they become fatter?? I'm thinking they probably do not and there's something wrong with my scope/plugin but I'm curious to find out whether you see that same behavior and, if so, it could be an anomaly of these scopes (doubtful). Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

3577A info
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýDid the 3577A have a separate instrument for 75 Ohms, or did the 3577A have an option for 75 Ohms?Is the conversion as simple as remove a minimum loss attenuator and change the connectors from 75 to 50 Ohms? Re: HP8560a smoke came out
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýIt would be interesting to look up information on a quenched arc. The winding of the condenser and the unconsumed dielectric could form a tuned circuit as they are destroyed. ?? Bruce Gentry, KA2IVY On 4/18/24 18:47, Morris Odell wrote:

Re: Question Regarding Blanking in HP-1404A/140B
In an attempt to answer my own question, the chopped blanking signal from the 1404A is connected in the 140B to the junction of a 4700pF capacitor and a 1M resistor and the other end of that resistor is tied to ground.? Is that falling, curvy, part of the waveform the discharging of that capacitor through that resistor and is, thus, normal here? Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ

Question Regarding Blanking in HP-1404A/140B
Could someone please tell me what a proper blanking signal from an HP-1404A vertical amplifier in an HP-140B should look like?? I took a look at mine (image below) and I'm not sure what I'm seeing is correct.? This was taken when the amplifier is in CHOP mode. Should the falling part of the waveform be "slow" like that?? I don't think I've ever looked at the blanking signals for any of my scopes so I don't have anything which to reference that and would like to know whether this is correct or indicative of any problems.? I suppose I expected to see more of a pulsed and squarer waveform but maybe not. Thanks, Barry - N4BUQ |
HP 3585A Early SN info needed
I have an early SN 3585A on the bench that is needing calibration after I repaired one of the IF cards. ?This unit uses the original A11, A12, A13 version of the cards. ?everything that I can find from all the usual sources online only gives alignment procedure and schematics for the A17, A18, A19 replacement cards. ?So far queries to Keysight/HP have gone unanswered. ?Would anyone happen to have the alignment info available? ?The card sets are different enough that the procedure in the later manuals makes no sense.

Re: New booklet
That was an enjoyable booklet. It should be noted that Advantest made quite a bunch of wonderful test equipment under their original name, Takeda Riken.?? I've got a TR 4172 SpecAn with tracking generator that will likely never function again due to some circuit board rot caused by faulty glue off gassing within some of the RF sections.? Sad too, as it is an amazing performing beastie that is in many ways far superior than even the HP equipment of that era of which it competed. Oh - and the AI generated kid on the second page after the intentionally blank first page that isn't blank... whew.... disturbing!? He's got some evil pupils, and scope probes that suck blood directly from his wrist! Eww! ;) |
[OT] Mi2022E (was Re: New booklet)
Sorry for the Off Topic post...? I'll be brief...
Hi Gianni. A Question if I may, about your Mi2022E... What firmware does it have installed?? Shown as it powers up on the front panel. "SOFT.001" mine says. There is somewhere, some with .003 firmware, we (some of us in the Mi group) are trying to locate.? That allegedly fixes some GPIB issues.? (002 is known to be "not good"...) Best Regards. ???
