Re: Unknown HP CRTs
开云体育Hi,Thanks for the tip! ?Yes I did check with Sphere. ?The CRTs are not in their list. ?So I sent them a message to see if they had any info. Thanks again for your help. 73 Ray VE3FN

Re: Comment on the UGSimple USB to GPIB adapter
Greetings,
Be careful with this unit. This is the "Simple" version of a more expensive one. I believe this one does not support the GPIB Trigger command, to name only this one. Only reads and writes are possible. This makes it much less appealing. The instrument will only trigger a read at its rate, not at your rate. Cheers, Bert, VE2ZAZ |
Re: HP 83592B hangs 8350B sweeper
开云体育Ed, I can sweep reliably within any band and see the frequency move up on my 8566 spectrum analyzer (1 to 2, 3 to 5, 7.5 to 10, and 15 to 18 GHz). I used a 10 sec sweep so it was visible. If I overlap a band the 8350 freezes. I suspected the bandswitch DAC which starts at 0v and has one step to +3.5v which is wrong. However there is a test (shift 56, page 8-127 step 2a) and the DAC looks OK. The TV buffer is OK as well. I am not sure where the bandswitch DAC gets its address and data. I think it is getting the wrong data. The Address is almost certainly from the 8350 but data could have been read from the switches on A7 or A8. Do you know? I am struggling a bit with downloaded manuals but making progress. Tucker has an original manual on Ebay for $100. Global has A and C manuals for about $35 but no B version. Does anyone have an original HP 83592B manual for sale at $40? Peter. ? ? From: hp_agilent_equipment@... [mailto:hp_agilent_equipment@...]

I just noticed the original posting - it looks like the frequency is reasonably close, but amplitude is way off. Depending on the band (N), it could just be that alignment is needed, once the basic problem is fixed. |

wow, TU all very much for that information and tips. ?I had no idea they could be so difficult/expensive to obtain. ?I could not inspect the unit before purchase ( defense auction) and I have always wanted a SA like this since I used one in our own lab for many years. Being recently laid-off has forced me to look for low cost solutions. I am just hoping that if I do have to spend a pretty penny for the pair that the unit itself works. ?I guess that's what makes this all very exciting :') ?TU again.

I'll second using the GLK cables. ? I have one of their coax-interconnects.? Remember you need the 4-pin version for an 8568B. I got a bus interconnect on ebay in 2012 for $130 shipped so that's probably the going rate if you are lucky. Orin. |
Re: Rear Cables for HP-8568B SA & Display Unit Needed
Gah, you can pay more for the cables than the SA.

It is possible to make them up yourself, if a bit tedious. The bus cable is not straight through, but it is documented in the service manual. The price for the connectors for the coax cable alone can hit $70-80 or more though. So GLK's price on those is pretty good. The best price I ever found for the coax cable was a kit someone was offering on ebay for $50. That's been a while though. I can make up bus cables for signifantly less than GLK, but I currently lack a good screw solution for the centronics side of the cable. They do show up on ebay once in a while. They don't last long if they're priced anywhere reasonable. Paul On Mon, Oct 12, 2015 at 08:13:34PM -0400, 'Tom Miller' tmiller11147@... [hp_agilent_equipment] wrote:

Otherwise, you should keep an eye out on ebay for a possible good deal that
sometimes shows up.

The 8568B is a really nice SA and really works nice.

Rear Cables for HP-8568B SA & Display Unit Needed
I recently purchased an HP-8568B 100 Hz to 1.5 GHz SA with matching
display and am very excited about it. ?But unfortunately the two required interconnecting
cables for the rear connections were not included. Gedas, W8BYA Gallery at Light travels faster than sound.... This is why some people appear bright until you hear them speak. |
HP Transistor 1854-0404
I am working on an 85101B Display Processor for use on HP 8510 Network Analyzer.
The Focus Gate Amp uses two of these 1854-0404 SI NPN @ Q13, Q14 both FUBAR. Before I purchase these on line, if someone has spares for purchase, please contact off list. I appreciate the help, with those replaced I should be in like Flint. Dennis |

Re: HP 83592B hangs 8350B sweeper
开云体育Thanks Ed, I have sorted out a few things. The drawings in the manual of A9 are back view but can be mistaken for front views because the transistors are drawn that way. This makes the schematic correct with Q1 the YIG tuning coil driver (see A8 description), Q2 the SYTM (Switched YIG Tuned Multiplier) driver (see A7 SYTM Driver), and Q3 the 78H05 regulator. I checked the collector voltages of ?Q1(pin2) and Q2(pin10 on motherboard) ? Select Freq???????? Actual freq???????? pin 2????????????????????? pin 10 50 MHz???????????????? 50.4??????????????????????? +5.63v?????????????????? +15.98v 100 MHz?????????????? 101???????????????????????? +5.44???????????????????? +15.98 500 MHz?????????????? 503???????????????????????? +3.92???????????????????? +15.98 1 GHz??????????????????? 1.006???????????????????? +2.029?????????????????? +15.97 2 GHz??????????????????? 2.012???????????????????? -1.77????????????????????? +15.98 3 GHz??????????????????? 3.002???????????????????? +8.84???????????????????? +15.99 4 GHz??????????????????? 4.007???????????????????? +5.05???????????????????? +15.16 5 GHz??????????????????? 5.013???????????????????? +1.254?????????????????? +14.34 12 GHz????????????????? 12.026?????????????????? -2.53????????????????????? +8.52 13 GHz????????????????? 13.031?????????????????? -4.42????????????????????? +7.70 14 GHz????????????????? no O/P????????????????? +2.56???????????????????? +6.91 ? They seem reasonable, but maybe not the SYTM (Q2 pin 10). The bands change at 2.4, 7.0, and 13.5. It seems strange the frequencies are close up to 13 GHz. A rough calculation has each transistor dissipating 1 to 2 watts but the regulator could be higher with 7 volts across it, so 7 to 20 watts depending on the current. I cannot measure the current of the 5v supply without cutting traces and there is no wire to hang a DC current meter onto. The heatsink gets very hot at any CW frequency. I don’t think the unreg 5v should be as high as the 12v I measure. The top cover screws onto the top of the heatsink and maybe is needed to dissipate the heat, another 24 sq in of metal close to the 8350B top lid! I’m going to drop this investigation for now. I don’t think the lock up is due to a power supply, I have checked them all. I can get it running in CW but as soon as I press START the 8350B locks up with no display, no error, and no response to buttons. I need to switch my attention to the sweep circuits before I can calibrate anything. I know this has been meddled with because the top cover is missing and an SMA connector was loose. Peter. ? ? ?
