INTERCOMM Transaction Processing System
(cross-posting this message here on behalf of Andreas Geissbuehler) INTERCOMM Preservation Project Update Last May, many of you expressed interest in helping to save the INTERCOMM TeleProcessing Monitor software, the most successful third-party TP monitor competing with CICS in the 1970s and 1980s. I was the assistant and bug fixer, z/OS sysprog and Unix Flex/ES sysop, working for the last person who was supporting INTERCOMM. I had a copy of the last and to the best of my knowledge the only complete set of hard copy manuals and machine readable development, product release and support material for releases 9, 10 and 11. I asked and the owners of INTERCOMM agreed to release the product to the hobby computer community. Mark Waterbury volunteered to scan the hard copy library into PDF format documents. Meanwhile Jay Maynard built a 3380 disk and a ready to run "turnkey" INTERCOMM R9 configured for the TK4- MVS 3.8j System. The manuals and the disk image can now be downloaded, see "Update:" on the INTERCOMM Group home page at [email protected] Whether you would like to learn, design and write your own online transaction processing system, or to offer suggestions and share your recollections, or perhaps just to refresh your memory of INTERCOMM, I would like to invite you to join the newly created <[email protected]>. You may know someone who worked in an INTERCOMM shop; please encourage them to join [email protected] to share their recollections and experiences. Andreas Geissbuehler

Hi Guys On top of Richard Cornwell excelent IBM360 simulator I've added a Model 370/145 and 370/148 Cpu panel + i/o devices They runs (among others) OS/VS1 Release 6 and OS/VS1 Release 6.7 The sources to build are available at https://github.com/rsanchovilla/SimH_cpanel There are also .zip files with Test Run Software Kits ready to run (OS/VS1 but also VM/370, MVT etc). Windows only (sorry) I 'm trying to make control panel and visuals as close as possible to real think. Please feel free to tell me what noes not match the looking of original HW. Enjoy Best Regards Roberto

The wiki says, it is starter system in files section, but I can see only dist tape and jcl for gen system, it is not ctl files for dasdload. I am wrong?

VS1 6.7 sysgen from starter
7
I was going to build a 6.7 system just for fun, and so I can take a gander at VTP. I have the 6.7 package and the tapes, and have built the DASD. Kipling the starter system works, but to get past the hardcopy prompt, I have to have both a 3270 at 010 and a 3215 at 01F connected, then reply R 00,'HARDCPY=(01F,ALL,CMDS)' to the prompt. (IPLing with both consoles connected will cause the initial interaction to be on the 3215.) Once things are started, a V 010,MSTCONS will switch to the 3270. But...once I've got things up, I can't seem to get anywhere. I can devinit a JCL file to the reader, and SF ,00C works...and reads in the job, and doesn't do anything. The job is in class V, and I'm guessing the P00 partition is set to class A. D <jobname> shows the job sitting there waiting. How do I get things to actually run? -- Jay Maynard

Hello anyone, The VS1 9202 CUMPTF tape in the files area, does it go against the 6.0 system or the 6.7 system? Thanks.

VS1 system status
3
Here's an update on the status of our VS1 systems. I've searched diligently for a fix to the VS1 6.0 APF problem. While I found some PTFs that sound good, this grew into a chain of requisites that we don't have or can't install. The VS1 6.0 system is pretty much base level with no PTFs already installed, plus it doesn't have SMP so we don't have a definite record of what is there. So realistically, I don't think there's going to be a fix for the 6.0 APF problem. If you're really enthusiastic about doing something with 6.0, and you need APF authorization, I suspect the fix is going to be that I dig up or develop an SVC that will dynamically turn APF authorization on. Now much better news. Along with VS1 6.0, we also found a copy of VS1 6.7, but it has a nasty bug that prevents display consoles from initializing. Because of that bug, and because I had 6.0 working, I decided to go with 6.0 and come back to 6.7 later to see if the console bug could be circumvented with a usermod. As a result of the APF problem with 6.0, I went back and looked seriously at 6.7. Eventually I developed a usermod to circumvent the console initialization bug, and after quite a bit of tinkering (I ran into several problems that had to be fixed along the way), I have a VS1 6.7 distribution that you can install. It's newer code, it has some maintenance on it, and it has SMP4, which is a big plus. I will be posting it here soon, along with a draft set of install jobs like I did with VS1 6.0 --

G09GEN1 IEF866E SCHEDULER ABEND COMPLETION CODE 0C1
3
In the Readme of the vs6.7 generating-system directory : "g09-stage2.jcl You will create this file from the punched output from job g08-stage1.jcl Submit the jobs to VS1. There will be 14 jobs, G09GEN1 through G09GEN14, and they will be held. Release and run each job in sequence (for example, "a g09gen1"). When I run this job I'm only getting 7 jobs (instead of the "14" mentioned) And .. when I release ( A G09GEN1) the first job, I'm getting : IEF866E SCHEDULER ABEND COMPLETION CODE 0C1 P00 A G09GEN1 IEE331I G09GEN1 JOB RELEASED IEF403I G09GEN1 STARTED TIME=03.36.01 P00 IEA021I INITSWA G09GEN1 CORE IMAGE BYPAS SED -2 P00 IEA029I INITSWA G09GEN1 TASK REINSTATED P00 ** IEF866E SCHEDULER ABEND COMPLETION CODE 0C1 P00 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< d n 025647 0000 IEE061I 02.56.47 NAME DISPLAY 191 191 QUEUE JOBNAME USER STAT JOBNAME USER STAT 191 IHELD G09GEN1 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN2 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN3 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN4 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN5 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN6 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN7 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN8 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN9 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN10 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN11 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN12 CENTRAL (A) 191 IHELD G09GEN13 CENTRAL (A) G09GEN14 CENTRAL (A) ---------------------------- A G09GEN1 IEE331I G09GEN1 JOB RELEASED IEF403I G09GEN1 STARTED TIME=03.36.01 P00 IEA021I INITSWA G09GEN1 CORE IMAGE BYPAS SED -2 P00 IEA029I INITSWA G09GEN1 TASK REINSTATED P00 ** IEF866E SCHEDULER ABEND COMPLETION CODE 0C1 P00 <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< IEF404I INITSWA ENDED TIME=03.36.02 P00

Replacement file: vs167gen_2021-07-27.zip
5
I uploaded a new file "vs167gen_2021-07-27.zip" containing sample VS1 6.7 build jobs on 2021-07-31. This replaces the previous "vs167gen_2021-06-11.zip" file of sample build jobs, which has been deleted. The sample stage 1 deck has been modified to include a UNITNAME for "SYSSQ" because IBM uses that name in some of its distributed procedures (in particular, ASMFC, ASMFCG, ASMFCL, ASMFCLG, PTFLE and RMTGEN). If you've already done a sysgen without SYSSQ, you might want to modify those procedures to specify SYSDA instead. --
