MVS 3.8 TK5 Shutdown

Hello everyone!

I'm running the fairly new TK5 release 3 under HercGUI version 1.19.0.5966.? I've tried both the recommended "/f bsppilot, shutnow" as described in the TK5 Introduction?
and User Manual and the "s shutdown" command issued from the?MVS console.? Both begin the shutdown process but stops at
IST127I ?SNASOL ? STILL ACTIVE- VTAM TERMINATION WAITING
IST127I ?JRP ? ? ?STILL ACTIVE- VTAM TERMINATION WAITING
and the system waits.

What is the proper way to shutdown MVS and get "$HASP000 ALL AVAILABLE FUNCTIONS COMPLETE" so I can quiesce and terminate my system?

Jim,

I have encountered a similar issue.

From the MVS or Hercconsole issue a $DU.

In my case,? PRT3 was halting the JES2 shutdown.?? I issued a start on prt3 w? $PRT3.

Hope this helps, if related to my experience w tk5.

Hi,

I did the same, but my system will shut down.
Sometimes printer 3 will block the shutdown, but with $SPRT3 the shutdown continues.

SNASOL and JRP will stop normally.
Otherwise a P SNASOL and P JRP should be given.

Cheers,
Rob

Using the standard script for starting (I have amended this to use the latest version of Hercules via the hercules-helper system) I do the following and it has not changed since tTK3-8) :

1. Select 6 (command),?
2. SHUTDOWN (ret)
3. LOGOFF

Then disconnect from x3270 or what ever you are using and quit it.

MVS then does just that and shuts down but does take some minutes doing so and the Herc screen shows that all has been completed with CPU's at zero mil so then quit (Herc).

Thanks everyone!

After 'P SNASOL' and 'P JRP', the doing a $SPRT3, my TK5 system shutdown.

I'm still not sure why I need to terminate SNASOL and JRP, I would think the shutdown script would do it.? However, all appears to be OK.

The real reason is just to make sure files are closed correctly.? Otherwise, it's kind of like turning off your PC by pressing the power button instead of shutting down the applications first.? Most of the time nothing really bad will happen, but it is (normally) worth the extra effort of shutting down before powering off on every platform.
